Yes, I too can remember feeling like the brilliant admiral all for sinking a stack of u-boats in Red Front way back when. I would second option B for this same reason .

After having a look over of what I've got on it, and a cursory playtest, I've decided to take RotTR off this list to complete. I just can't seem to make it challenging enough for Germany (and I haven't even got to the Allied counter-attacks yet; that'd be hard to manage), and the pre-war period is so DULL to sit and play through ('oh, I've built another PzKw II, time for another Stuka, next city'). I've tried a number of configurations for this one, but none of them are attractive. So, I'm giving up! Maybe in the future I'll have a redeeming inspiration, but for now, it seems hopeless. BTW, I'm still welcoming and encouraging playtest feedback for EotRS and KW. Thanks!

As I've decided at the present to focus on finishing EotRS as the current priority, I thought I'd encourage further playtesting with this: the units.bmp updated with the most recent fairline US and Brit vehicles and planes and Typhoon British Empire infantry. Everyone who DL'd v1.2, please also DL this.

Old chap, can you link to the page with the most up-to-date download links of the main files?

          Cheers!

Sure thing, Curt! First page of this thread, somewhere in the middle, strewn between three consecutive posts.

                Some early observations...

                * Realistic disorder in China, good!

                * Plenty of food in the large cities, perhaps there should be a bit less?

                * The tech - 'Airborne Supremecy' = Has a typo.

                * Trade/Fishing boat terrain is still named Fish/Whales.

                * Seems like you could drop a few of the infantry types.

                * Japan had a real manpower shortage in WW2, you could refelct
this by having weak Colonial Troops, decent Garrison and a
tough Marine unit. Too many troops and two tank units can
be confusing. This is just my opinion.

                * Fighters and Arty seem well-balanced...Bombers seem too effective.
                * Japan's bombers were infamous for being quite fragile warplanes.
                * After some play, I would say reduce the bomber attack just a bit.

                * Naval balance seems good...!

                * But there are seriously huge amounts of ships to move around...!

I think this one is getting close to being release-worthy, I would ask
for second opinions about the OOBs in the Pacific theatre, but I
find that the cities are well placed, and the layout is good.

My only gripes are the over-abundance of ground units and the
lack of sounds...Both can be easily fixed, though...

                  * The Pearl harbor attack is quite fun, but I am sure they had less planes ready than are available in EoTRS.

Thanks for the initial evaluation, Curt! It'll all be duly noted and adjustments made for the final version. I myself found myself relying heavily on bombers. Reducing attack would likely make it more challenging. I'll also cut the number of land units in China, air units at PH, and naval units all around. I'll need to make China the slog it was for Japan.

I´ve conquest Malaysia now, only Singapore is under British rule. My carriers from the Pearl Harbor attack now reached the South Malaysia area. They helped me conquering Borneo and most of Dutch Indonesia. Now they are ready for the final attack on Singapore.

After my conquests in Indonesia I should order them to China. There is many resistance and I loosed good units by attacking those Communists and the Chinese Army. I send wounded units to the next city for getting complete health.
Many Communists makes garrisons on the map so I need my bombers.

Real good are the historical information I will become if I conquest a major city like Kuala Lumpur. I don´t know many about the Pacific War so I can get some background information. Maybe they could be usefull in the scenario.

One funny thing happens when the US made a amphibious attack on Hongkong. I destroyed their Transport Ship, but not the Units in the ship. If I understand it right, Agricola noticed this already.

My submarine attacks a US-Marine unit

I will continue the game after my examinations.

I'm back, and I'm going to get these buggers out! I just need to tweak a few things and finish some events, and they should all be ready for playtest soon. As my new projects in queue are still in the planning stage, these ones are my current priority. BTW, thanks for the continued playtest of EotRS, Civ2units. I wasn't expecting the US to hit Hong Kong like that, actually. As for the swimming Marines, I'm not sure what to do about that. Can they still make an amphibious assault?

I also believe, in fact, that RotTR, listed as one of these stragglers, may well be salvagable after all, though it will likely be the last of the four I finish. I think that more expensive German units and more spawned Allied and Soviet units, as well as less dependable Axis allies, may actually make the game more challenging. More later on this.

I didn´t conquer Manila on the first turn, so I think that the AI decided to make an amphibious attack on Hongkong. The city isn´t so far away from the Philippines. I don´t know if they actually can make an amphibious attack. I destroyed the transport ship and noticed that the Marines are still survived. I made a secound attack with my submarine and destroyed the Marines. So they didn´t have a time for attacking Hongkong.

I noticed by attacking terrains with more than one unit on it only one unit was destroyed. In the normal game this effect is only when you have build a fort. Without a fort all units on the terrain will be destroyed if the actually attacked unit defeated.
I don´t know how you have activated this option but I would deactivate it. I think that this one was the reason why the Marine unit survived when I attacked the transport ship.

Sorry for not responding quicker, Civ2units, but this thread dropped so fast I'd only noticed a post as I was digging for an old thread. Actually, I used the CivStack utility to add an invisible fortress to every square, as I didn't want whole stacks wiped out just like that. I don't know if putting them at sea was a good idea or not, but I'm not sure how to remove them (other than editing every ocean square individually), and AGRICOLA also had a decent argument for keeping them.
