  • NEW - WWII Europa Scenario released!

    Hello Apolyton Forum

I have put my introduction at bottom of this post!

After many years of trying I have completed a playable scenario! Version 1 has been available at CFC Scenario DB for a few monts but I had to correct a few things before I posted it here (and ammended it there). There it has been doing well (144 downloads) and I have had some feedback, thanks Eivind, and would like to see what you good people think of it. (Download links below)

The game starts in November 1941 as the Axis advance on Moscow began to falter and the Japanese prepared for Pearl Harbour. It is set on a new large European map (32,000sq) and is only designed to be played as the Allies to make it more challenging for the human player by making the AI units tougher and giving the AI units through events.

The idea is to either replay the campaigns of North Africa, the Mediterranian and Northern Europe plus the Atlantic, or use a 'what if' approach and try Churchill's Balkans invasion gambit and free Eastern and Central Europe before the Soviets. This could even lead onto the Cold War turning hot! Alternatively you could try Patton's single strong thrust in Northern Europe and secure an early victory for the Allies. Basically do whatever you like!

Please read the Read Me file first. I have kept the important points brief but they help the player understand the objectives of the game.

Any comments are welcome, plus and playtest feedback!

    Thanks

My name is Drew (Werd100) and I am new to this Forum. I have been playing Civ II for about a decade and have been creating scenarios for about five years, although I have only finished one to date. Until recently I had never been involved in any forums and it looks like I have been missing out!. I have started a few threads in the CFC Forum (links below) and will probably start a few here too!

You made finally the journey over from CFC to Apolyton I can see. Congrats, and welcome!

Does this mean that this is v.2, with multiple events and some of those issues addressed?

              Hi Eivind
Nice to be here! No, this is not v.2 yet. I am calling it v1.1 and it is just v1.0 with signatures put back on the graphcs gifs, a few new units put in that I found recently and a few other minor tweaks.
I did take your advice about ship costs and raised the battleships and carriers from 200 to 300 plus upped the other ships.

Still not had time to look at batch files properly but will get on the case. Version two can wait for a while, will see what feedback I get and at the moment I want to crack on with the Ancient scenario!

Are you developing your game at the moment or is it finished? If finished where can I find it?
When does your game start? I looked at making one starting in 1938 or 1939 but there seemed too many nations, later in the war is simpler! Let me know what you think of my effort and we can swap ideas!

Thanks Fairline. I'm a big fan of your work. The WWII scn had a lot of your units in it, part of the reason for having multiple units and rules files was to cram in as many as possible. It makes you feel you are progressing as the war goes on as it is a long game.

The Ancient scenario will be on the same map (-USA) and is similar in a way to Paul Muticas Wars of the Mediterranian but with Britain. It may or may not feature a few of your graphics too I will start a new thread to discuss ideas for it.

BTW I gather you are a Welshman in England. I am an Englishman in Wales, wonder who got the best deal?

I wasn't sure if they all worked, I know the link to CFC database works.

                        From WWII Europa README
I have thought about an event text prompt telling player to swap over terrain gif to winter and then back to summer. This would look cool, also if it is possible to change over the rules file while in the same way you do the graphics then it would be possible to reduce mobility in the winter etc. I have a feeling that it is not possible though. Please lett me know if it is possible as I would incorporate it in next version.
In Red Front 1.4, Captain Nemo does exactly what you are considering. Check it out.

                            Winter Graphics

                            Hi Agricola
I did play around with the winter graphics for quite a while but found they made it very hard to read the terrain etc... Also they made North Africa look a bit odd!
In the end I reached a compromise and made a change in the winter rules file reducing road movement factor from 6 to 3 to represent mud etc... I also tried to put in as many units with Winter whitewashes and warm overcoats as I could to give it a chilly feel. Considering a lot of scenarios do not differentiate between seasons at all I thought this would suffice.
If I can find some better winter graphics for version 2 and can work the Batch Files I may still follow up this idea!
Think I played Nemos game a few years back, will check the archive.

Harry, thanks man! CivII Forever WOOOOOOO!

I will check this oen out and get back with a feedback report by the end of the week...!
