  • They cover quite good with the City flags, I have no complaints. But you know there are no special dutch, catholic or saxon/protestant units ? Habsburg could be used for the Eastern Cavalries and the mighty Black Cuirassiers, a dynastic Spanish flag would perfectly fit to the Spanish Tercios.

    • OK. Here's what I have done so far to the with the Units.
I still need to add some but if you could very roughly post the flags on top of the appropriate units (like the example in the bottom corner) I will finish them off properly.

There are a few things about the graphics I would like to mention. The sea is so harsh. It makes my eyes feel like they are bleeding Can't you find something a bit easier on the eye?

I have a few more ideas but I had best go and spend some time with the wife I will post them tommorow.

BTW, does the batch file work OK?

PS: I know not all the signatures are on yet. I think the ships are BeBro's!

        • maybe...
orange better than red in the Dutch flag
yellow crowns better than cross in Swedish flag

keep on your good work, guy

          • I was sure I posted this scheme yet but I was unable to find it here...

            Pikemen: 3 Pikes, 0 Muskets
Tercios: 2 Pikes, 1 Musket (-> french infantry)
            Lines: 2 Muskets, 1 Pike
Light Lines: 0 pikes, 3 Muskets

erm, whcih sea set ex-cact-ly do you mean? I have tweaked around so much that I cant remember which is which in which version. Currently they are two sets, one adopted from Blitzkrieg, another from RedFront (as can be seen in the screenies). Sets style (description awsom-O!) gooking lood! Crowns instead of crosses, what??

            Sorry, very drunken this time...

            • Right. Replace the Swedish yellow cross with three yellow crowns on a blue background!

As there are no specific Dutch units a Dutch unit shield is not needed. If the Dutch flag of the time was just orange then you may need to amend the flag in the city gif!?

I think the sea I am seeing is the plain dark blue one from Blitzkrieg. It works well in some games, such as First Strike, but with all the rivers in No Hope it makes for a very harsh screen. I have been squinting at it!
I will replace it with a lighter coloured sea and see what it looks like.

              • While I was making a Hapsburg flag for the Crown Royals Unit I decided the city flags could do with a bit of a touch up to make them clearer.

Hope you like them and they are accurate! Here is the result:

                  • Hmmm, the three crowns flag looks a lot like the future French flag, I think.

Anyway, here's some stuff from Flags of the World on the Swedish flag:

In 1569, King John III decided that all Swedish flags used at the peace negotiations with the Danes in Knäred should be blue with a yellow cross, because they had been like that "as of old". However, this is the first official decision known to state this. (See also the text about the flag and arms of Finland Proper.)
                    Elias Granqvist, 14 March 2001

Flag Bulletin vol. XXVI, #120, Jan.-June 1987, p. 164 has an abstract of a paper presented at the 10th International Congress of Vexillology which was entitled "A Surprising Vexillological Discovery Made Through the Study of Heraldry" by Dr. Warming. The paper states that an armorial of the Order of the Golden Fleece shows eight blue flags with white off-center crosses for Christian II, King of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Since Christian received the Collar of the Order on 4 Nov. 1520, the day of his coronation as King of Sweden, Warming proposed that the white on blue flags were intended to represent the Kingdom of Sweden. He also said that a 1761 Royal decree indicated that the cross had been white before being changed to yellow.

Since this was only a very short abstract I do not know what details might have been given about the 1761 decree, nor if the author considered the possibility of oxidized pigment in the armorial.

                    • Up to Battosai. I guess the yellow cross on blue flag is generally recognizable as Sweden and I think it looks better than the three crowns one!

                        • I'd go with the Swedish flag (the one with the cross) for the city flag, and the three crowns for unit shields. Looks better and is semi accurate

                          Trivia:
The specifications of the current Swedish flag are actually those chosen by Gustav II Adolf/ Gustavus Adolphus back then.
Or atleast that's what I was told by my sixth grade teacher

                          EDIT:
and just to complicate things some more:

That's right except for one thing. It should be: Lätt Ryttare.
Wouldn't "Lätt Rytteri" be more pleasing to the eye? Especially as most other unit names seem to be given in plural.

                              • Thanks

Though, I don't think I will be back for long. Happened to stop by and saw a scenario thread for my favourite war

Question: How can I switch off the "Greenhouse Effect" in the game without offsetting pollution occurance?
You can turn off global warming via hex editing. The global warming message will still pop up but no terrain will be turned to dessert or such (the message can be easily altered). It's been too long though, I don't remember if your cities will still be spreading pollution or not. Nor do I remember what to change in the savefile (but I think I still have some civ 2 hex editing guide laying around somewhere, should be available on the sleague website as well though).
