  • Future Project: Alien Invasion

    First the disclaimer:

THIS IS NOT MY CURRENT WORKING PROJECT. I'M STILL OFFICIALLY WORKING ON THE KOREAN WAR. THIS THREAD IS JUST TO GATHER INPUT AND IDEAS ON AN INSPIRATION FOR A FUTURE SCENARIO I CAN'T CONTAIN ANYMORE.

That said, I'll continue. I had an inspiration for a dark near-future scifi scen with alien invaders. This is not the CiC scen redone, with the goofy Hodads. It is a bit more serious. It posits things about 30 years in the future. First, there are five human factions.
-North America under a far-right wing fascist dictatorship with strong pseudo-Christian leanings.
-A corrupt South American union under a dictatorship dominated by Drug Cartels.
-An EU which is an economic and political superstate and perhaps the last functional democracy on the planet.
-And an East Asia is dominated thoroughly by China under a bureaucratic, capitalist, authoritarian regime.
South Asia is an irradiated wasteland from an unchecked nuclear war between India and Pakistan, with only a few pockets of civilization left (not a civ).
Then, two distinct factions of alien invaders have landed on Earth, each seeking a different goal. They are the last two civ's. They arrived five year prior to the scen's beginning, and have each established a beachead. These factions are:
-The Alien Conquerors, who have landed in Australia and quickly spread to New Zealand, Oceania, and SE Asia. They're ruthless, cunning, and vicious. Militias in the Outback and jungle guerilla groups in SE Asia and tropical islands carry on the fight for their homes.
The Alien Prophets, who have landed in the Middle East, seeking 'psychic energy' from the 'Web of Human Faith.' They are brutal, but leave many religious structures intact. Though they've stomped most Mideast nations, Iran in their mountains, some Gulf States on the coast, the core of Israel, and parts of Egypt, as well as insurgents throughout, put up a fierce fight.
The situation is a bit more complex than 'War of the Worlds' humans vs. aliens. The five human civ's have little love for each other, and may use the conflict's chaos to settle old scores. And the two alien factions detest each other in the end. I don't yet know when this will get done, but if anyone has any input, please let me know. I'm just gathering ideas at this point.

Ruthless aliens would be hard-pressed to match the hostile entities who currently run the planet!

I agree. To be honest, Curt, though, you're right. I should stick with one project at a time. Although this thread is mainly for speculative purposes, I should stay focused. I'll work on this when I at least have a beta of the Korean War.

With the Korean War in it's finishing stages, I have a bit of time to consider my next project. I had several ideas in queue, but thought I might tentatively kick this one off for my next project. I'd originally planned it years ago for Alpha Centauri, but I've since developed more loyalty to Civ2, and besides, there are features I now plan that just wouldn't work by SMAC, even despite their built in two alien/five human faction idea in the expansion. That said, I plan the above seven factions, with most other surviving, non-aligned human nations being represented by barbs, mostly being those remaining defenders mentioned in the invasion zones, and most African, Middle American, and Central Asian nations. Oh, and I forgot a human faction above: a Russia taken over by a nasty corporation that dominates it's politics and economics and courts as an ally rather than suppresses the Red Mafia. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Hmm... south and north america seem very similar ideologically... perhaps make south america communist? With Fidel, Chavez and Morales (Bolivia) pretty far on the left, and Argentina and Brazil with center-left governments, you could have the FARC managing to get the upper hand in Colombia, and eventually them merging into a big USASR or somesuch... You can leave Chile as a barb stronghold to give them a more immediate worry.

In any case, I love Sci-Fi (and, in fact, my first handle when I registered here was Hodad ) so I give this

That may well be a good idea, N35t0r. It would indeed distinguish the two Americas, moreso; give them more to scrap over.

Whatever happened to the Empire of the Rising Sun? Your last post on the development thread gives an apparently invalid link to evo-games and I have not been able to find the scen at either the SL or Spanish sites?

@AGRICOLA: It's still on my hard-drive. I could e-mail you what I've got if you'd like to give it one more try. I tried to make the Yanks more aggressive, and I still can't seem to get them to capture Japanese cities. I'd just need to finish a few tweaks (like giving the A-Bomber an air escort) and such first though.

What about using the tips on aggressive AI naval warfare and troop transportation discussed in another thread (originally found out by kobayashi)

If you can rely on the AI using them for anything at all, it is for capturing cities.

I think this alien project sounds pretty cool...When it is ready to roll!

I like the idea of two powerful alien civs, with the other blocs
all trying to outdo each other, and siding with aliens to win!

It has a feeling of a modern '1870' type scenario!
