  • It seems to be an IE issue. I have a friend whose handy with computers coming to have a look and try a few things tomorrow. I will begin the new Chinese line-up of forces very soon. I look forward to those new terrains.

    • E-mail me your turn and report and I will post it for you for now. I have PM'd you my e-mail addy.

Should be able to look at the terrains tomorrow.

Another idea for KW. Once the UN defeats the initial NK invasion and starts pushing up the peninsula things are too easy. Maybe a few minor NK counterattacks would spice things up a bit. I think the UN could still make it to the Chinese border fairly easily but it would spice up that phase of the game a little. It will mean the UN advance will need to be a bit more structured!

IE: UN troops capture City A from the North Koreans = 3x T-34 created near a bit further up the peninsula ready to launch a counterattack on the following NK turn.

      • Here is the terrain I was using for my playtest. I had forgotten I had changed it!

I would suggest scattering some more RR/suburbs in the empty areas of the map to represent small towns and villages. The current map looks a bit bleak outside the big cities. I have enlarged the individual RR/Suburb square (first on left) to look like a small town.

        • When I build a scenario I constantly play around with the graphics as I come across new tiles that would fit better. I quite like a busy map with lots of varied terrain. I enjoy pretending the troops are fighting through small villages etc and they often act as landmarks when I am planning attacks or defensive lines. I find flat featureless maps a bit dull!

          • Thanks, greatly, McMonkey! I expect to have the next iteration done sometime in early April. BTW, I fixed the German Civ Site problem and posted my turn and report.

            • Okay, I'm almost ready for my next release of this; just one big problem. There's not enough events space to get a good Chinese counterattack, as the flags to instigate Chinese involvement take up so much memory. Is there any way around this or other ideas?

                • Hello, again, everyone!

I've been somewhat distracted from Civ2 except for a PBEM on the German forum lately, but now plan to come back and at least give this and other planned scenarios some attention. I need to redo some events, notabely the Chinese counterattack, as well as maybe work on beefing up North Korean home units so they don't just fold once the UN crosses the 38th parrellel, like previously. I also need to more carefully consider possible 'what-if' roles for the Soviets, as I don't want WW3 to break out. If anyone has any advice on these things, I'm open to them.

                  Thanks!

                  • Hey, welcome back Patine! I'm excited to hear about your plans for improving your 'Korean War'. I enjoyed the scenario quite a bit. It was refreshing to delve into this little covered conflict, however like some others, I did find it less challenging in the later stages of the game

Exploring the alternative history possibilities is one of the most entertaining aspects of creating a scenario I think. Tell us more about your ideas

                    • Hello, everyone!

I had a bit of busy-ness with real life of late, and thus was really only able to play my turn (barely in time) for one PBEM civ-wise of late; certainly not enough time to work on KW or EotRS (or any other scenario, for that matter). Now that I've got a bit more time on my hands, I've been going over the advice given by various members of this forum, and a few ideas of my own, and should be able to make some progress soon on these two scenarios, and then hopefully, others. Good to see many of the old faces are still here. And some great new scenario ideas of late. I'll post back in a few days.

                      • Good to see you here, Patine!

Life can get a bit hectic at times, and this was the case for myself too at the start of the year.

Hope you get some time to hang out in SL during the near future...!

                        We are all still here!

                        • Thanks for the warm welcome, Curt! Good to see you're still here. Does anyone have my last release of my KW scenario? I seem to have lost track of exactly what I was doing last I was working on it.

Welcome back Patine, this mod looks like it'll be a doozy!

I look forward to playing it this summer when I should be studying for my bar exam

                            • This scenario is pretty much done, save for one annoying issue: the Chinese counter-offensive. I can't for the life of me get it to work to my satisfaction, largely because of the terrain and size of Manchuria, which are things I don't want to change, both for realism and to prevent an easy UN offensive there. Any suggestions anyone?

                              • Have you tried making 'Move Unit' events to direct the Chinese. I would also make them in huge numbers and give them spawning locations starting from the south of Korea and moving back north so that their offensive will keep being resupplied. I remember playing this game and being impressed with the original North Korean attack and playing the UN counter-attack. If you can get the Chinese events working you will be on to a winner.
