  • Viva Mexico!!!

After the French were driven out of Mexico in the 1870s, a Juarista general, Porfirio Diaz, became dictator of the country. During this period, known as the porfiriato, foreign capital was given a free hand in the nation. Although the capitalists created modern communication and transportation infrastructures, the intrusion generated considerable discontent among native Mexicans. In 1910 the aging Diaz decided to allow an election. Thinking there would be no serious electoral challengers, the dictator was surprised when Francisco Madero began to successfully campaign against him. Acting hastily, Diaz imprisoned Madero, won the election, and then released him. Madero fled Mexico and plotted revolution in Texas. As the year neared its end, Madero called for open revolt against the Diaz regime. His call was answered by the Bandit chieftain Pancho Villa in Chihuahua, renegade general Orozco in Coahila, and the agrarian populist Emiliano Zapata in the southern state of Morelia.

For the next ten years, there was WAR in Mexico.

    VIVA MEXICO! is a scenario that recreates this war. The scenario is short, only 180 turns. There is no actual tech research, air units, or usable naval units. The player positions are;

1.) The Diaz government (and Huerta)
    2.) The Constitutionalists (Madero, Carranza)
3.) The Constructionists ( Orozco, Obregon)
    4.) Villistas
    5.) Zapatistas
    6.) United States

All units ignore city walls. Railroads are historically accurate and are essential for rapid movement and concentration. The map has been extensively reworked for accuracy. This scenario is fast moving. It's weighted heavily to favor attacking. Taking a cue from Brian, research has been made into foreign arms deals, but in order to receive the arms, certain railroad and port entrepots must be held. Ideally, the USA and Government player positions should be AI-controlled. Only the four factions should be played. Units by Gareth. The scenario runs from 1910-1920.

        Looking forward to this...!

Compared to WW2, Mexico is a pretty untapped scenario territory!

And even better, it is an Exile scenario!

            No sweat . . .

I've had to add a couple things and have switched some slots around to prevent odd problems. I'll send you my own finalized file pretty quick and you can take it from there.

I'd really like to try this one! I think you should also consider a 'prequel,' of sorts (I know, Lucas has lodged the word in common parlance) about the actual driving out of Maximilian in the 1860's-70's.

                True confessions . . . .

The primary reason this scenario got made (it's finished, btw) was because of another game entirely.

I was playing RR Tycoon II on the Viva Mexico map, which recreates the period of intense RR building during the porfiriato, and the AI Tycoons kept building RRs into cities I intended to connect. Frustrated, I had the urge to build armies, connect said cities by rail, and move forces in to seize these towns.

Can't do that in RR Tycoon.

                CAN in Civ2.

And so another scenario was conceived and created.

FRUSTRATION might better be termed the "mother of invention."

Mexican revolution is a game I have been wanting to play for a long time, and as I have to admit I rather like your scens...

Thanks, Cyrion. It's complete. I'm troubleshooting and balancing at the moment. Might take a week or so at least.

In the meantime, we can all eagerly await "sound wav" 's [sic] similar scenario. Matter-of-fact, think I'll just wait until IT is released before I put mine out there.

                    Just to be safe.

How's it coming along? I hope you weren't being serious when you said you'd wait until the new Soundwave has put out his scenario before you released yours!

RL has gotten in the way lately. I'm still tweaking. It's at a point where I'll have to send it along to Aggy for a hexedit. Once that's done, I'll start tweaking again.

If I knew how to do a screenie, I'd post one. or two.

Hmmm, funny. I saw a documentary the other day, which I think was about Chapultepec castle. I actually vaguely know what this is about now.

                              How to do a screenie?
                              • First of all, change Civ2 to standard zoom level if it isn't there already by pressing Shift+Z.
                              • Focus the map/screen on the part you want to take a shot of (obviously).
                              • Hit the Print Screen button (or "Prnt Scrn" or "Prt Sc" or something, next to F12) on your keyboard.
                              • Open MS Paint (or do you have some other image viewer/editor?) and press Ctrl+V.
                              • Use the selection tool to select the area of the screenshot you're interested in and move the selection to the top-left of the canvas.
                              • Use the Image > Attributes... menu item to crop the image to the right size.
                              • Save the image as a JPEG and attach to your post.
