And you are correct about the #5 trade arrows for ocean. I wanted to represent the importance of coastal colonial cities for trade, and trade is a central tool for your empire to grow, and to emphasize the growth of coastal colonial cities before any premature moves inland. Use colonial cities to produce raw materials, and ship them back to the old world for grand revenues.
As for the white for unexplored terrain; it's just a matter of taste. I thought it was interesting with an alternative to black, it shouldn't matter for the general impression of the scenario though. If you dislike it too much, simply change it back to black.

After mucking about with the uncharted terrain tile for some time, I favor a 10-20% darkened version of the most common terrain. The novelty of non-black wears off after a while, though. The darkened terrain idea is far from ideal, and I'm strongly considering going back to black. Usually I associate dark with the unknown, but after driving recently in a snow white-out, I can see Eivind's point, except when I think it's snowing in Brazil.
What kind of freight payouts are typical in this scen?
SP vs MP:
All scenarios have best playability in MP, but this, as with others, work ok in SP as well. And the best SP scenarios are the ones that play on only one single continent. Therefore I can't promise you that the AI will be smart enough to stack their galleons and cross the atlantic to settle the land though. I even tried with goto events from Europe to America, but they never figured how to load onto the ships. But there's nothing stopping you from going about in the world.
And the AI civs (Ottomans and Europeans) will handle better in this version as well.
Best not start the subject on how stupid the AI is, I get the urge to quit civ2 every time .
Freight payouts:
We havn't gotten that far in the new PBEM yet, so I wouldn't know yet. Many new factors in this version will decide how the revenues will be. For one, the COT terrain produces more trade now, ocean terrain produces more trade, I've removed the Republic etc. All in all they will probably get higher now than before though. If the colonies may develop, cross atlantic revenues may reach 500-1500, and in time maybe more. Patience is a virtue, you know . All depending on the receiver and sending cities, and distance of course.

A small, minor note on one of the Portuguese cities...
It's not Santa Catalina but Santa Catarina.. and well, it's a state, not really a city, but I think you chose for that. Also, on the same matter, Santa Catarina was colonized rather late. Cities like Salvador (although that might be too close to Porto Seguro, yet was the most important city in that time), Rio and even São Paulo would be more logical choices (and a dozen of possible cities in the northeast), from the historical perspective. Santa Catarina became a seperate captaincy only in the 18th century..
And to be honest, I have no idea what 'Rostra Hermosa' is! It's not portuguese (language) at least..
And maybe you could include the Tupi and Guarani as indian tribes in Brazil.. The Guarani have been of great influence, just look at today's Paraguay (and of course the many Brazilian citynames)
I thank you for your observations, but this is the release version and there will be no more releases. Certainly not over something as trivial as wrongly typed names. But nontheless I thank you for taking time to make these observations!
The reason Santa Catarina is there instead of Rio, is that initially this scen would start much earlier, and Rio was founed in 1516. When the scen after all started by chance in 1516, this was long forgotten. Another reason is that I wanted coastal cities. And is São Paulo neither a coastal city, nor was it founded before 1554.
Also Rostra Hermosa was founded in 1500, just in between San Roque (1501) and San Augustinno (1500). Maybe I could have chosen antoher city more suited, but just pretend this city represent this region and the name of the city shouldn't matter.
Haha, I was retired to the Sports Forum at CFC mainly.. and I've been a year in Brazil as well.. lot's of things! Then I discovered I did no longer have my account here.. or maybe I just forgot the password.. I couldn't get in anyway, and the combo of username and email was wrong too so.. i reregistered.
Friends, I need help verifying something in this scenario. There's something weird with it, but as it turns out, it's a brilliant 'bug' that works in my favour.
It would appear every newly built city will not be able to build ships. I have no idea what I've done for this to be, but having it so it makes a lot of sense real life wise. Now every ship has to be built in Europe, which is just what I wanted in the first place. Hence my house rule for not building ships in the colonies. But now that's not needed.
Can anyone verify this and possibly tell me why it is this way?
Yes it's true! I was wondering about it. Let me check my savegame to be sure though. I vaguely remember being able to build ships in one or two colonies in the Americas, but I might be wrong. I'll let u know ASAP!
I am able to build ships in Huron and a city I (re)called Chicago, for obvious reasons. Chinook as well allows ships, but every other city founded or conquered by me on any other continent than Europe, did not allow ships..
