  • Units' limit

Is there any, absolutely any way to change it even a bit?

Give me a TOT save game, where I can test this limit, and tell, how does that limit work.

@Skyer: glad you're still around. Here's a ToT save file, if that's any use.

        @Boco: What's the difference?

I just meant the limitation to 256 cities and was assuming Heresson was referring to the limit on total number of units. Was that right?

No, what's the difference between the city limit in ToT an MGE?

ToT is the better version than MGE, so that makes sense...!

And the unit limit is more vital, as more cities will of course lead to many more units...!

units limit is more important. You see, not only I have to click Too Many Units pop-up 20 times a turn, not only I do not produce new units, but my evnts do not work because they involve creating new units. Thank You Skyer, thank You very much.

If Skyer could fix this limit in ToT, he would be on the honours list for life!!!

I see your point H and CS. In El Aurens, the city limit constrains me much more, but I use cities in an unusual fashion there. I forgot...what is the unit limit? Even with a few hundred impassable terrain units, I haven't seen this limit in EA. Aren't you overwhelming the player? Or are most of the units controlled by the AI?

Skyer, by all means hack away!

Give me a savegame, where next created unit goes on the limit.

                        Someone do it!
                        I can't, unfortunatelly.

                        Thanks again

My guess is, that here limit is removed. Also the AI hostility removed.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that the units limit has been removed.

                            I did the following:
                            1. Renamed the civ2.exe file in the TOT folder as civ2ORIGINAL.exe .
                            2. Downloaded the new TOT.exe into the TOT folder.
                            3. Did not reapply the TOT 1.1 patch.
                            4. Started a new game as Rome with 2 other civs.
                            5. Gave Rome all techs. Changed terrain to form a block of 20 glacier squares plus an isolated glacier square.
                            6. Created 100 spies on each of the 20 squares and 46 on the single, a total of 2046.
                            7. Had Rome building spies (30 shields). Twice cheated shield progress in Rome to 29 and then ended the turn. The number of active units reached 2048.
                            8. However, when I tried it once more, an error message appeared and the game crashed.

EDIT: There was no "Too many units" popup.

Apparently either I or the Poly attachment system cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. It's either my ignorance or a post cannot have both a screenshot and an attachment.

Anyway, to continue from my previous post, this is as far as I can take it. Perhaps a computer expert can tell exactly what on drive D caused the crash and how to get around it. Use a doctored version of the no CD patch?

The 2048 unit game save is attached. Just ending the turn twice should crash the game
