I must admit I don't think i've ever built one (good old Hoover) so don't remember the risk of a meltdown and how you mitigate this). So if there is always a risk maybe we should say no to them. Perhaps they should be barred until after the discovery of Environmentalism; and but at that point, you should be building Solar Power Plants. Unless you really want punish yourselves and require the building of a useless Nuke Plant before building the Solar Power Plant.

Here's my log for the next 10 turns. Not very eventful but I guess a bit nearer our goals (and don't look for much of the ) :

560(0) - change nothing, hit Enter.

580(1) - Sun Tzu built in Little Bighorn. Start Copes (to change later).
Trireme kills barb leader for 150g & vet status near First Wind.
Trireme with NONE settlers up north moves back towards home territory. RB rest of settler in Silver Moon for 16g. Change production in Snake Canyon to legion and IRB. IRB dip in First Wind.
Russians discover Astro - even though previous intelligence says they were building Bridge Building (and they still don't have this)! French get Astro from GL. Carths go republic

600(2) - First Wind begins city walls. Disorder in Snake Canyon - Elvis.

620(3) - Have to move KillDeer worker to avoid starvation - lose some trade as no longer celebrating.
Dip down south near Wolf Creek pops hut - AT renamed Quinnehtukqut . Phalanx near Snake Canyon moves west onto Mountain to defend against Russians. Chief's Crag production changed to Trireme.
Russians start King Richards. French government overthrown. Carths develop Polytheism.

640(4) - Nothing much. Building stuff.

660(5) - Russian ele kills a vet legion that had just finished healing! Our trireme smacks it as it only had a sliver of health left, and gets vet status. It moves west & spots another ele but runs out of moves.
              Egyptians develop Maths.

680(6) - Flat Water founded on island #5 (loc 72,12) north west of Carths using settler that was stranded on that island. No boats nearby so thought might as well get some science and cash, and we can disband it if not wanted later. Not many suitable spots on the island given the buffalo specials.
Trireme bashes next Russian mammoth and barely survives. Russian archer spotted near Wolf Creek - IRB dip.
              Japanese get Pottery.

700(7) - WLTC day in Cedar Creek. Almost finished researching Navigation (beaker red) so talk to French. Peace, exchange Masonry for Philosophy, swap maps, end. No further exchanges as I want to get started on Mono asap.
Bribe archer on mountain near Wolf Creek for 120g and it kills another one.
Carths want to talk. I pass on knowledge exchange, still receptive, didn't want to swap maps, end.

720(8) - Settlers from north almost back to our realm.
              French almost build Oracle.

740(9) - pretty quiet. Changed some more production to legions and a couple of boats but still mainly dips.
              French build Oracle, Carths abandon.

760(10) - Navigation finally! Start Mono. LBH production changed to Magellan, but will leave that decision to the next player. There are 12 dips in LBH and 5 more on the island with 3 more to build in the next turn or so. We need 23 to build Magellan.
Production upgrades to caravels around the place. IRB Caravel in Silver Moon.
Talk to Americans and get Aliiance, but no gift. Wanted Navigation but I refused.
Talk to Egypt, no alliance, shared maps.

I have left a dip hovering next to a hut near Milk Creek and Bad Axe. No defence around but both cities due to produce dips soon.
Think the island with Wolf Creek on it should be populated quickly - plenty of grassland and river and not too many specials. Good place to launch at Russia from too.
296g left. Discoveries every 10 turns according to F6 key, but the TSL screen says every 11 turns!

In terms of the AI, this is what they have which we don't (and what they're researching):

Russia - Engineering & Wheel (Bridge Building)
              Japan - nothing (Astronomy)
French - Bridge Building, Literacy, Republic (Banking)
Egypt - Banking, Literacy, Republic (University)
America - Bridges, Lit, Repub (Banking)
              Carth - Bridges, Repub (Banking)

SO overall, 2 new cities, one new tech and 3 kills and 1 loss.

              Here's the save anyhow:

                Slow but steady progress

I would guess the Russians found Astro* in a hut.

I propose a moratorium on tech trading/tech theft until we learn Mono.

                * For some reason, something other than Astronomy comes to mind when "Astro" is mentioned

Its hard to push things along without caravans - our science isn't growing. And we weren't in much of a position (in terms of cash of military units) to go making much trouble. Thought the 2 NONE settlers on the trireme could make land somewhere Near Snake Canyon and do a bit of foritfication / roading, and maybe found another city to beef up the region.

Some of the islands that are fully covered with cities could be decidated to churning out units & settlers for pacifying the main continent, while other islands could just produce more dips for wonders, with ship chains for the purposes. Or possibly get some temples in place for our future switch to soft fundy / bit of cash.

                      Some infinitesimal inroads made.

760... Wow, not being able to irrigate has really stunted our growth. We have tons of cities, but none capable of Xinning (our only size 6 city is the capital, and Xinning it would be counterproductive due to the loss of celebration and the fact that there is no food surplus.)
So it looks like we're stuck with the painful 10 turn wait for Mono... unless I go looking for techs in huts. Then it could be a lot longer with some bad luck.

The French are the only AI with the prerequisites for Mono. So... if we find Banking, we may want to gift it to them, in the hopes that they'll switch to Mono and we can steal it. We're purple and Supreme, so tech gifting won't help.

Hut at 111,71 yields Legion (Bad Axe)
                      Russians finish King Richard

780: Many diplomats built. Methinks I will move most towards LB. Some Settlers to head there as well - the better to road with, and use the "join city" command.

                      Disorder in Flatwater>Elvis
Big Paw and Bear Mound celebrate.

800: Sierra Club founded on a hill, but with 3 fishies and a Gallagher brothers, it should grow well and perhaps become useful as a Settler factory. I was sorely tempted to pre-mine the city square!

Time for a round of diplomacy:
                      Russians - still war.
                      Japanese - 100 g, thanks very much
French - we refuse tech swap (don't want to slow down any further), demand tribute, get war.
Carthagines - war. We may lose Snake Canyon, but it's on a crappy site, anyway.

More moving around. Decide to experiment with luxuries at 30%... we'll see what happens. Cash needs are secondary.

Carthagines walk into undefended Snake Canyon, take Navigation and start Magellan.

820: Multiple celebrations. Tech rate is now 9 turns.
French, Americans discover Banking, but show "Researching: None" on diplomacy screen.

840: Nothing really interesting - 1 celebration stops, one begins.

860: Hut at 110, 60 yields Legion (Milk Creek). Tech rate at 8 turns with some temporary hunger in Killdeer.

Barbarian Caravel sinks unloaded Trireme at 68, 54.

880: Hut at 104,58 yields Legion (Bad Axe).

                      French develop Monotheism!

                      900: Round of Diplomacy:

                      Russians - still war.
                      Japanese - war.
                      French - demand 200 g, still war.
Egyptians - give them Navigation, get nothing back
Americans - gift Astronomy to keep alliance, get nothing.
                      Carthagines - peace.

And this is 2.42, and we're Spotless still! I'm amazed that diplomacy is going so badly...

                      Americans start Copernicus.

920: Monotheism, start Wheel (on the road to Democracy).

All but 4 Diplomats in and around LB disbanded (in LB ) to build Mike's Chapel. Final 9 shields bought for 36 g.

A few swaps with the Americans gets us Banking and Literacy, 2 techs on the road to Democracy. Invention (prereq Engineering) is the one tech we need. The Russians have Engineering, but aren't talking. However... 2 of their cities are just west of First Wind and on the seaside...

940: Michelangelo's Chapel in Little Bighorn. Start Magellan in LB. Science rate back to 9 turns. Much fewer starvation issues.
Gift Philo to Russians for ceasefire, but they refuse to swap anything with us

Russians and Japanese ally against us.
Russians and Japanese swap Navigation and Wheel... French get Wheel from GL.

960: No luck trying to get Wheel from the Russians/Japanese/French...

We have quite a few celebrations going on at 30% lux, but obviously this is cutting into our cash flow - we have a net surplus of 1g/turn. I was planning on moving some Settlers to our home island to "b" them into LB, but otherwise have no real plan. . We may want to steal/swap for Engineering, and then do the same for Wheel, which we are now working on - hopefully Democracy would then be offered as a tech choice.

And there's always the possibility of going to Republic, although the unit support costs and units in the field would probably kill us.

Scratch the comment about Democracy being offered - if we acquire Engineering, the best we can do is switch to Invention.

We're working on Magellan now, but the Russians and French also know the tech. Interesting conundrum - do we jack up taxes to pay for Magellan, and fall behind in the race to Demo?
