    I have a game that started as a Progressive Game over on the Spanish Forum. To waste time I branched off from the save before I launched and continued playing for the heck of it. I have about 125 cities and haven't had problems celebrating.

    PS: My best delivery bonus so far is 3475g (75x120 map, distance 81, Escorial visible at size 23 and several river tiles, size 20+ Herrera with 2 silk 1 Wine and rivers). Never broken or even anywhere near 3k for anything but Oil and U.

      No. Except when you already have more than 320 million citizens, or more than 30,000 gold, there will be discrepancies, because people without the no-limits patch will see those values go weird as usual.

      But I assume you were referring to the gigamap thing. The no-limits patch only enables Civ2 to generate random gigamaps. It can already open them. In fact, if you couldn't, gigamaps would probably never have been discovered at all.

        OK Didn't know how the no-limits patch was derived. I do like it, though.

        So... any thoughts re: the pollution issue?

          Hmm... I would have sworn I had replied to this.

          Anyway:

          First: Luxes make very unhappy citizens go directly to happy (2 are needed, rather than the 4 needed to do the same for an unhappy citizen, or the 6 that would be expected.) I thought this was common knowledge.

          What I did notice is that you weren't experiencing the lux cap, as all the luxuries in each city were being counted towards happyness (rather than a maximum of city size # of luxes). I don't have much experience with ToT, so perhaps this could be the reason. Any ToT expert knows?

          As for pollution, I recalled reading somewhere that (on diety?), you would eventually reach the point where even a single smokestack was guaranteed to produce pollution every turn. I'll go dig through the GL, which is where I thought I found that.

            The pollution thing:

            As you can see mathematically, after you discover the 102nd advance at deity, you are guaranteed to get pollution every turn, even if you have only a single pollution icon (the yellow triangle) in your city status. This translates to Future Technology 15.... after that, even one pollution icon in a city status screen will yield one polluted terrain.
            I found it on this CFC thread which was linked to the GL. I didn't go through the forumulae in detail, though.

            [edit:] So I did take a closer look...

            TP = RP + PP (round down)

            P = DL * (A / 2)

            RN = Random Integer between 0 and (256 - P)

            If RN < (TP * 2) then you get 1 pollution within the city radius

            KEY:
            ------------------------------------
            TP = Total Pollution Icons
            (it is the # of pollution icons you see in city status)

            PP = Population Pollution

            CP = City Population (Size of city)

            TM = Tech Multiplier

            RP = Resource Pollution

            SP = Shields Produced

            RPD = Resource Pollution Divisor

            DL = Difficulty Level
            (0-Cheftian, 1-warlord, 2-Prince, 3-king, 4-Emperor, 5-Deity)

            A = Number of advances since 4000 BC
            (this EXCLUDES the advances you started with!!!)

            RN = Random Number (an integer)
            So, a random number between 0 and [255 - (1/2 Advances) * 5 (for deity)] is chosen, and if it's smaller than twice the amount of smokestacks, there's pollution.

            If you have all 87 advances, then the game generates the random number between 0 and 37. That's 100% chance for 19 smokestacks and 50% chance for 10...

              This is why I love coming here. I've been playing this game for more than seven years now and I still don't even know all of the "rules".

                That makes perfect sense. I'm well past FT15 in this game, which is Tech 102.

                255-(102*.5)*5=0. Ergo, the 100% chance of pollution.

                Thanks!

                  n/p

                  It's good that all the useles stuff I pick up about the game is useful to some people. Now if I could only remember mathematical theorems as easily...
