    • Recovering well although a final scan tomorrow should determine whether he plays or not. Correction: Alex Ferguson will determine whether he plays. And don't forget Alex Ferguson is a Scot

      • The scen is playing fine at turn 60. The business about Field Guns and Bazookas was a bit of a red herring. I haven't and will not build any of these units. Quite simply, they are not needed by UNIT.

Otherwise, I have only 2 minor comments.

        1. In EVENTS, either the Demat Cannon and Vortex Launcher popups are reversed or the techs given are reversed. Tech #61 is for the Vortex Launcher; tech #63 is for the Demat Cannon.

        2. Some Craters along the sidewalks of London look like Oil Wells or gushers.....very dangerous for pedestrians. Judging by another thread on this forum, this one may be tough to fix.

Please test any changes you make in Cyber Soldier, Cyber Gunner Sontaran Soldier and Sontaran Elite very carefully. Right now, if a UNIT vet Au-79 Gold Rifle, UNIT's best attack unit, attacks a fortified vet Cyber Soldier in a city, it will win barely 50 % of the time.

Some of the human-controlled cities are size 18 now - hate to see how many units it'll take to garrison them by the end of the game.
Absolutely, definitely, positively not a problem but rather a golden opportunity for innovative, non-linear thinking. Curt, you will get the details later by e-mail.

Unfortunately, IMHO, Daleks has encountered the Law of Unexpected Consequences:

"For every action there are usually at least three unexpected consequences, two of which are unpleasant."

P.S. I usually cheer for Brazil. Western Hemisphere solidarity and all that. Please don't banish me for heresy. I promise to recant after the World Cup.

        • I'll be back sharpish tomorrow after some post-birthday party shuteye!

I think the best way to stop invasions by animated terrain
features is to banish the SPR files to a holding folder and
to let CIV2 rely on the scenario files...It works for me!

          PS
I would strengthen any Cybe-affecting weapons
accordingly with any increase in the tin men's power...

More on this tomorrow...And I look forward to that
email, AGRICOLA...You are top-class at testing, as ever!

          PPS
Brazil is my bet for the world cup winner....!

Not Costa Rica, Ecuador, Trinidad, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico, or USA? Is it love for the New World, or wanting to see a team kick Eurobutt? Who's got the best chance against Brazil?

Btw, I read England has the strongest left side it's had for many years.

            • No shame in supporting Brazil Agricola

England has the strongest side since it won in '66, although they have a tendancy not to perform as well as a team as the sum of their individual talent would suggest. Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard (and dare I say Owen if he's firing on all cylinders) are all world class. Their back four are amongst the best in the world.

Then there's their manager Sven...... oh dear. And the gangly pratt who Sven thinks is an international striker

Brazil should win it hands down.

If it was not . . . . . hope you had a very good time.

                @ Boco
What would it take to make them useful?
                Above all, SPEED.

The units are slow and the map is huge. Per turn, a Bazooka can move 3 squares (Mv=2) and a Field Gun 2 squares (Mv=1). In addition, many monster units are x2 D against Mv=2 units . . . . Bazookas.

Almost all cities are completely surrounded by a "wall" or "moat" of Move Cost = 3 terrain. This means that, in order to attack, Bazookas and Field Guns have to spend a turn next to a defended city. That is a recipe for disaster unless they are protected by one or two high D units.

By contrast, the UNIT's best attackers and all other units can move 5 squares per turn (Mv=3). They can start a turn 1 square from the "wall", cross the "wall" and attack or occupy a city on the same turn.

For UNIT, the logical first enemy to eliminate is Time Meddler, followed by the Skaro Daleks. The Meddler should be history by turn 75 and the Skaro pepperpots by turn 100. Then there is going to be a long and slow move of perhaps 20 turns to come to grips with the Imperials. Until adequate Airports can either be captured or built in the Imperial area, it will take too much time to move Bazookas and Field Guns to the area held by Imperial forces.

Not Costa Rica, Ecuador, Trinidad, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico, or USA? Is it love for the New World, or wanting to see a team kick Eurobutt?
I think that, in the interest of good international relations and in keeping with Canada's namby-pamby reputation, I'll take the Fifth on that one.

                  • A noteworthy fact I gleened on football/soccer. The FIFA has 10 more member nations than the UN. Only Vatican City and Monaco have never had a team (Monacan athletes tend to play for France in all sports but Formula One racing).

                    • Zooks are hp=1 units?
No, overall their numbers are pretty good:
                      A/D=9/3
                      Mv=2
                      HP/FP=5/2

Ignore City Walls & ZOC, 2 space visibility
It is the only unit that can shoot down aircraft.
It is handicapped by the x2 D bonus that many monster units have against Mv=2.

However, around turn 42 in my game the Au-79 Gold Cannon became available. IMO a much better unit overall.

                      A/D=9/4
                      Mv=3
                      HP/FP=4/6

Ignore City Walls & ZOC, 2 space visibility
                      D +100% vs air & missile units

I forgot to mention that, just to make things more interesting, Curt has made the "wall" terrain and 95%+ of city terrains with D +200%. Firepower really counts in this scen.

                        • x2 on defense versus horse (pikemen): This is actually a limited bonus, x1.5 if the attacker is a land unit with move=2, hp=1.

I tested the Pikemen once last year and found out the same thing as mindseye. The (x2 vs horse) bonus only works if the attacker has 1 hitpoint. Therefore Pikemen are of little value against Dragoons, Cavalry or Howitzers (especially Howizters!).
Those piker's bonus flags should have no effect against zooks. All your other points about Curt's terrain tricks still point to low cost-effectiveness for this unit.

                        • Thanks. That is very interesting.

What you said made me go and check the units data once again. Obviously I should have done it before but my concern was with the enemy at hand, the Time Meddler (Dark Path). Most of their units have a D bonus and it is 50%, not x 2, vs Mv 2. The various Dalek units do not have it.

I certainly agree with your comments on the low cost-effectiveness of the Bazooka.

                          • Resumed play as the Imperial Daleks today, and I've conquered the whole corner of the map I'm in. Casaulties are starting to mount, and the wretched Human Resistance is starting to take more of a pound of flesh. I'll have to begin building Transmats in some conquered cities so I can ship more units each turn from the saucer. I've still not run across anyone in combat other than the Resistance. Is there anyway I'll be able to invade Skaro later (or have my saucer threatened)? BTW, I ended up destroying Cyrion Factory, given the vast number of defenders.
