  • I gave my resignation to my workplace yesterday, so I'm required by contract to work there another two weeks. After that time's up and I'm free, I should be able to do more designing, at least until my semester starts in August.

    • A few questions:

      1. I can't get the "Not Used" units to appear in build lists, from "Not Used N" on down. Anybody know why this might be?

      2. Some of the bmps I use for facility illustrations turn up a little corrupted. Nothing too bad - just a few rows might be black instead of yellow, that sort of thing. Any idea why?

      • @Alinestra;

You gave up work for CIV2?

        Bravo!

        • Well, not exactly, but for practical purposes that might well be the end result.

I have solved problem 1. above. I have still been unable to solve problem 2. I will post a picture when I can to illustrate what I mean, in a bit.

          • Maybe you need to load the civ2 tot palette into the pics. I'm not sure how to do it, but that could be the problem.

            • Nope, there is no ToT palette as such; ToT uses 15-bit graphics and it will cope fine with stuff drawn in 16- and 24-bit in bmp format. When Alinestra posts a pic it should be possible to see what the problem is.

              • Okay, here's the problem. I am trying to get a bitmap of Jabba's palace (used for a ToT Wonder) into the game. The bitmap shows the sky is yellow all the way through.

However, in the second picture I'll post, you can see in-game, the bmp has somehow become slightly corrupted. The sky is yellow up until a few rows short of the top, whereupon it becomes pitch black.

                Why is this?

A similar but much more minor corruption also occurs with the bmp I'm using another wonder, but I'll post that later.

                • This is the corrupted Jabba picture, viewed from in-game using the Civilopedia.

As you can see, there is some black space directly above Jabba's head, and curving around the back of Bib Fortuna's head.

                  • I have run into this as well. Try putting a pixel of a different color in each corner of the bmp.

You'd be right. The colour of the pixel in the top left corner indicates a transparency mask. All like pixels in the image will become transparent, revealing boarder1.bmp behind. I normally use magenta (#FF00FF) there, as it's rarely found in graphics and stands out like a sore thumb. If you don't like the effect of one missing pixel in the top left corner, you could create a one-pixel wide border down the LHS or across the top. This phenomenon only occurs in the wonder graphics (40imp.bmp - 67imp.bmp), not the city improvement graphics (01imp.bmp - 39imp.bmp). It seems that ToT's own art team were unaware of the fact, as many of the official wonder graphics have been corrupted in this manner. Transparent colour markers can be found all over the place in ToT: cities.bmp, units.bmp, people.bmp, terrainX.bmp, icons.bmp, city.bmp and dialog.bmp.

                        • Boco is right, it's the top left pixel that has the problem.

                          • Just another thing I had to add:

I hate Kevin J. Anderson. His plots are lame, his characters are formulaic, and what he did to the Star Wars setting was similar in tone and quality to what Genghis Khan did to Asia.

It's been nearly a decade since he first spewed his asfoetida onto the canvas of Star Wars, and the stench still lingers like a festering turd in the wedding cake. For this reason, there will be no Kyp Durron, no Admiral Daala, and no way in hell will there be a Sun Crusher in this scenario.

                            edit:
I may try for a KJA unit that awards you gold each time you kill it violently, though. Maybe I'll trap the tosser in the Maw Installation.

                            edit2:
Maybe I'll trap him there with Gungans.

                            edit3:
And then each time you kill him, he respawns somewhere else, with yet more Gungans, thereby spreading crap throughout the galaxy.

                            • Awww, cmon, everyone just loves indestructible spaceships, the ability to send away a fleet of Star Destroyers in an instance, and annoying apprentices that go off and destroy whole suns in the wink of an eye.

Actually not really, too much fantasy junk.
