  • It was a disaster indeed. With the invasion of Egypt upon Great Britain and the Egyptian city of Sidi Barrani already under Italian occupation the Brits were forced to throw together a counter offensive dubbed Operation Compass. It was possibly one of the most successful counter offensives in history as within an hour of the operation's begining, Italian General Pietro Maletti was dead and 4,000 Italians surrendered. Within three days 38,000 Italians were taken prisoner and the British had captured the Italian Fort Capuzzo by mid December 1940.

Would there be any way Curt I wonder to simulate this massive route of the Axis forces by the Brits? It would be great if you could to reflect the many difficulties Italy faced in combat throughout the war.

    • It was a complex and tragic little sideshow of WW2...

I think the best thing to do is to create some weak Axis
units via events, and let the British Empire civ do the rest!

      PS
It would be excellent to have enough civs and events
space to go the whole hog with the WW2 theatres!

      • Great scenario, I tried a few turns at it as the USSR, truly frantic carnage & mayhem so far!

Btw, are you sure French Syria and Lebanon were not in pro-axis Vichy hands by the start of the scen? I think it was July 1941 when the British drove them out, I could be wrong.
And when was that pro-Axis coup in Iraq? April or May1941 ? The British had to commit significant forces on both cases, but they didn't have Mosul's oilfields before June 1941.
British fighting in Iraq. Deja vu... ???

          • Am I the only one having trouble with Canadians invading the USA here? I'm trying to play and those allied infantry just keep coming down in droves.

            • Damn good for nothing pushy Canadians!! Who do they think they are?

Seriously though, the only real solution that comes to mind for me is to create some sort of police unit, like the kind Steph used in "Great War: A Walk in Hell". These cheap units with no movement rate could be used to guard all borders the world over that need guarding from wayward AI incursions.

              Just a thought....

              • I've restarted the game and am moving infantry towards Canada. I've got some fighters blocking the way now, waiting for my troops to get up there.

The problem should be solved, as those stupid hosers weren't taking over New York.

                • Who ya callin a Hoser yankee? Maybe those canucks were just there to catch a Broadway Show or see a Leafs-Rangers game. Mighty unneighbourly of you to turn those theatre lovin hockey fan soliders back from the Big AppleI should say.

Seriously though, the advantage to Curt including some sort of police unit / civil defender unit is that you wouldn't have to redeploy any military forces to prevent the AI from crossing into your territory and hurting everything from industrial infrastructure to your transportation network.

                  • Yes. It's now September 1943 and they're coming in through British Columbia, some of them from Australia.

                    • I had to use all units available at the start to contain Canadian units north of the border. This included surrounding Vancouver with US units, plugging up the Great Lakes with destroyers and doing everything possible to immobilize the bloody Canadians.

I've said before that I much prefer two hostile neighbours to one allied civ. A pox on all allies!

                        • Curt, this has nothing to do with your scenario and everything to do with the "AI." This also has nothing to do with Canada, either. It just so happens that the AI uses it as a base for invading the United States.

The USA after 2 or 3 years is unplayable. I've tried playing 3 games as the USA, and every time those little SOBs come down and block EVERYTHING.

It's 1944 and there are literally well over 100 "allied" units here. They are occupying the entire United States. My only hope would have been if Hitler crossed the Atlantic and slaughtered them all.

                            • There are units that can pass impassible terrain. Generic infantry is one of them, and they constitute the bulk (+95%) of the invading forces.
