  • Playing the Invasio Barbarorum mod for Rome: Total War (BI) the other day, I decided to make a Comitatensis Armatus unit.

Given that there seems to be no reference to these kinds of guys outside the mod (well, at least according to my web searching), I wonder if they even existed, but still...

    • That is one, nice-looking Roman. And I can think of other uses for him besides Roman Scenarios. As for the unit itself:

The word Amatus is the perfect passive participle of amõ - "love"
Comitatensis is an adjective coming from comitatus - "company"
So the unit name would translate into "Loving Companions" or "Company of Loves".

I guess the meaning is a company which loves Rome. In other words, patriots.

      • Ah. Wait. Armatus.. not Amatus..

Flavius Armatus was a Byzantine military commander. He played a key role in the conflicts around Zeno, both saving him from rebels and then helping to remove him. So, not "Loving Companions" after all. These are probably meant to be Armatus' representation in the mod, his own company of soldiers.

            • Since today is Brazil's Independence Day, I thought I'd celebrate by posting some cavalry from that time and place:

              • Good work guys!
Timoleon, is there any way you could upload your Timurid Archer as a BMP file so I can download it for my collection. You should be able to upload it via the Scenario League wiki and then post a link to the image. I believe that's how Ghost did it. Hopefully they will sort out the attachments soon.

                • Thanks McMonkey and great horseman, btw, GD. It is already a .bmp, this is the preview. Left click on it and a loading window pops up, the .bmp loads and then you right-click and save it. I plan to sort out my previous stuff and post them on SL this sunday.

Edit: Here is the SL image, hope this works:

He is actually a Sabadar, member of the very capable but turbulent shiite urban militias of Transoxania

And a more modest alternative. A generic late medieval Persian archer.

                              • It is not complicated at all. I just upload the file on the SL site, copy the image url. After that, back in Poly, I click insert image on the quick reply, then paste the url. And I followed Mc Monkeys advice above to do it.
