SORRY - I was trying to say nothing beyond what I could see or figure out for those considering OCC. The starting techs should have been in the first post, though: you can see that when you open the game...

Oh, indeed yes, one can starve any city to size 1 and build a Sett to destroy it.

However, and strictly following the rules, the human player would have the benifit of that WoW for that period of time. Depending on the Wonder, this could have a large impact. Hanging Gardens might enable a sudden growth spurt for the other cities; Leo might upgrade the fleet.

No Wonders must mean razing only. Otherwise, how do the results compare??

I will play; when it comes to wonder cities, I will simply buy a settler/engineer each turn until it is dissolved

Anyway, I'm playing; Mongols were destroyed very early, Romans too after a heroic fight by them, Egyptians shall be next.

There's a wonder in Rome, so I'll disband the city by building settlers

OK, I can't download a playable version. I seem to be computer-challenged yet again.

I get an icon, but it is not recognized by my Civ II program as a save. This is the case whether I download the zipped or unzipped save. I have tried two thinga: clicking on the link (downloads a file labelled view.php) and downloading the link to disk (I can name it what I want, but the results are the same). I do not have a command to save link to a location in my browser.

                    Last month's save was fine.

                    Arggggh!

                      Grigor,

The .php extention is the likely problem. Change the file to xx.sav and see what you get. Luck

                        Monk-

Thanks for the help, but that is not the problem.

The icon says Civ II Gold Alternative Scenario. I don't know what in this context 'alternative' means. It neither loads as a game or opens as a scenario, in either Civ II gold or vanilla 2.42. This month, I can unzip the zipped version and get to the same non-useful place. Last month I couldn't access the zipped save, but the unzipped version still downloads very nicely, so it isn't that my computer works differently this month.

                        It is a puzzlement.

Well, it is indeed a puzzelment. I clicked on the .sav link and opened it in classic Civ2.

                            Situation solved!

Thanks to Monk's indefatigability, I tried something new.
I seem to have had a problem with automatic configuration by my browser. I removed the CivII helper file and downloaded the save directly to disk. Then it worked with both 2.42 and MGE.

                            Some Helper file...

For someone who suffers from constanst exhaustion, that is a charming word.

Glad I was able to help, Grigor. Now you must go forth and seek the stars!!

Hmm. will somebody be really nice and zip the deafult rules file?

I have a backup of the original one, but i'm unsure on it's accuracy, and the one i use is heavily modified.
