I will not be able to finish this month. Spaceship games take significantly more time than conquest games and real life has been too much for the no wonders effort. I wasn't doing very well anyway - I tried the robust approach but seemed to get too few cities so in Democracy it's about 12 turns per tech in 750AD.

Sure was great to see Dave V totally destroy this map!

Well, the few games i've finished in the past years have been all conquests, as for some reason i've been playing bloodlust since a long time ago. (I play on _extremely hughe_ maps, and don't want the computer chickening out before i can get all the way across the world)....

Well, I've sat for quite long hours and finally, in 1928, the SS arrived in Alpha. (32 Structural, 16 Components and 12 Modules) (And only a couple of turns before global overwarming, as for the last turns, I was too busy kicking sioux butt to clean pollution)

I am lagging behind with my OCC game. It will take a lot of work to get it finished by Thursday.

            Mine is finished.

Spaceship (15,3,3,1,1,1) launched 1754, bound to land on AC in 1775 (but for some odd reason my game crashes right before landing and I also had other problems previously, namely started the game in 2.42 but was compelled to switch to MGE in the early ADs, since I repeatedly received a message "this is not a save file"; perhaps someone could explain ).

Anyway, I think I was quite close to solo at 1AD: he had 32 techs, 6 coming from huts, I had 26 techs, 1 coming from a hut), but the early AD years were very bad for me, perhaps due to the change from 2.42 to MGE.

I built a colony on the island after having switched to democracy around 400AD (and developped that colony to size 21 later on). I also built 3 small cities, which means that I played most of the end game with 12 cities, and managed 1 tech/turn almost all the time after Automobile (with a mix of camels and research) but that was very late ( = compared to Zenon and solo).

This makes me #3 at the moment , 'only' 9 centuries behind Zenon

                Excuse me,
I think my 2 previous posts should have been sent to the Spoiler thread. Perhaps Mark could move them?

Is it possible that, by mistake at some point, you resummed the game by using MGE?? This would not happen unless you kept both game.exe's in the same folder, which I doubt you would do. The only way I have ever gotten that dialog box was from trying to open a MGE-associated game in 2.42. Very mysterious, otherwise.

I am fairly sure that I haven't mixed up 2.42 and MGE, but my son has 'improved' my computer (which cost me my archive + some odd features ...).

BTW I have the same problem as with the previous game: blank page when I try to submit

Read solo Early Landing Strategy Guide, on top of the Strategy Forum (it will answer your questions much better than I could try to do now).

As LF said, the bible for this is Solo's Early Landing Guide. As far as hostile AI is concerned, you generally keep them sweet by swapping or giving technologies. They can be inclined to ask for money, so it's a good idea to have less than 50 gold in the kitty when you approach them. In some circumstances you may have to bite the bullet and give them money - you often get it back in the form of gifts if you can obtain an alliance. It's useful to have some diplos handy to deal with any AI units that get too frisky.

Of course all bets are off once you build Apollo, so get that bird launched quickly and then rush your defences.

He he now I understand. I used to play with such strategy long time ago ,but this time I decided to follow old Roman motto - if you want peace prepare for war =)

As for giving the AI gold, it's usually no problem asking for a gift or tribute in return! Often the AI will return your gold with interest during the same talk. The illogic of this does not disturb them in the least.

Congratulations to Zenon for posting the best result and winning this month's Tourney!!

Our host seems to be otherwise preoccupied so if we are to have another game this month, then someone else needs to post a save. I suggest a Conquest Game with earliest finish the deciding factor.
