The box surrounding the unit that forms its slot on the units bitmap is too thin. That's the problem, if you can please fix it. I'll try to incorporate the updated units in the final version (I currently have a functional marine, but I do think yours is better, and an SOG 'scout' type could help). BTW, please download the beta and tell me what you think.

@patine:
Yeah, I see the problem, about two pixels width too small. I've hopefully fixed it now. I've put the Marine, Grunt and SOG unit together to make it easier.
I hope this fixes the problem.
I'll download and play the beta asap, only problem is that my pc with civ 2 installed isn't plugged in, as I'm taking it with me to university. However, I should be able to play it this weekend.
@jimpanse:
I love the graphic for the embassy"You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'

Thanks, I look forward to playing it. I downloaded the file, to have a look at the events files and so on. It looks like a very good scenario, I like the range of units too."You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'

I just tried your scenario a few turns. Unit stats are good but not perfect, playability is also very good.
That´s it for the 1st impression!
One major nit-pick of graphical nature: I suggest you make the unit shields appear on the right spot. And try to get some units from the showcases. There are very fine fairline-style units out there. I would also be glad to lend you a (graphical) hand!

@vodkakov:
Thanks, I appreciate your compliment. Please tell me your further thoughts when you've had a chance to give it a try. I want as much input as possible.
@jim panse:
Thanks for a reasonable first impression. Let me know what stat and graphic changes you suggest, other than shield alignment.
Thanks both of you for the initial reviews!

Just a few suggestions for events...
Would it be possible to have randomly created US Recruits units, in order to show new arrivals of draftees at least up until the Tet Offensive? This could show the US Government's support for Westmoreland's request for more troops in South East Asia. I'm not too sure if it's possible, but after the North Vietnamese research Tet Offensive, the random US Recruit units should stop. This then shows the flagging support for the war at home.
Would it be more realistic if the US player were penalised (financially) each time a US Recruits unit is killed, in order to show the lowering of public support in the US as a result of casualties?
Would it be possible to have the US invasion of Cambodia included and with it the further decline in domestic support? Either through a technology (like the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive tech) or through a "MAKEAGGRESSION" between the Cambodians and US in April 1970 (or February 1969 for the bombing).
I know I've not actually had the opportunity to play the scenario yet and I don't mean to nit-pick in any way, I just thought that the above suggestions could add some further realism to the scenario. I found a timeline at http://www.pbs.org/battlefieldvietna...ne/index1.html which has a lot of information on the War. Sorry if I sound critical, I'm not, I just thought I'd add a few suggestions for the events file."You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'

Don't worry, I thrive on constructive criticism; suggestions are always welcome. Problem is, though I like many of your ideas, I'd have to split the events into two text files, and I'm not certain where or how to do that and make it work. But, as I said, I like many of your ideas.
BTW, I'm considering turning the 'NV Supply Truck' into an 'NVA Motorized Infantry,' as it much more resembles one, and I think I should leave trade up to the capitalist powers. On that note, does anyone have a good .WAV file for a motorized infantry unit?

Ok, fair enough. *curses limitations on space in event files*"You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'

Would it work as a Wordpad file, rather than a notepad one? Sometimes I try to open events files, but they're too big for notepad, so it opens them in wordpad... I'm no expert on this
Maybe jimpanse or curtsibling could help"You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'

If your question was : could we have a bigger event file if we created a wordpad one instead of a notepad, then the answer sadly is no! The problem comes from the size the civ engine is ready to accept and process!

Ah, ok. I didn't know whether it was a problem with notepad or with civ 2 itself. What if batch files were used to divide the scenario into two stages? Might be a bit too complicated though, and sometimes it's a pain in the neck to use"You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." -- Siegfried Sassoon, 'Suicide in the Trenches'
