just imagine artys and bombers with "bombardement" (?) Skills like in Civ3 (whats the biggest advantage in there)

      Would that be possible?

I WANT THIS CODE BE RELEASED!

PS: what would you think about also seeking for petitioners at Fanatics´and either at the Civ2-Webring Forum (where I could ask).

Sounds like a good idea. I might even top it.
We (= Harry Tuttle ) could even write a civgroup news item about it, and inform MarkG to see if we can get this some more attention... MarkG might even be able to help some, if he has any Firaxis or Atari contact addresses.

Going to CFC and the german webring sounds great too. The more the merrier.

Merc, I would consider making it sticky, if possible.

(I know we have tons already)

Just seen this, and it sounds like a great idea to get the source code if those who are able to are willing to work on it (Merc, Jasev and Yaros?).

As to how computer-illiterate numpties such as myself can help - what has been decided about e-mailing Atari/Firaxis? Is it a group or individual e-mail, and which company is to be e-mailed?

And more units, City Buildings... a more versatile SCHISM routine that could randomly trigger when an empire is too big or the civil disorder turns massive...
The cities could have a "nationalism" factor that would their citizens turn angrier, we could add more governments... Civ2 would REALLY become the eternal game.

That won't be a problem. I'm sure that if they release the code we'll find more programmers than we can handle.

Yaroslav will send them an e-mail with all our names. The owner of Civ2 rights is Atari so we should write them (but a little support by Firazis won't hurt... maybe Alfonso could contact Javier Sobrado @ Firaxis )

Hey, just a thought and I didn't want to muddy up the sticky thread, if we were to edit the source, what could we reasonably add to it?

I for one would like to see some sort of modular design that would allow for the full editing of the game files through a "total package" editor. No more cut and paste, no more unraveling files, etc... If it's one thing that will make scenario creation easier, it's gonna be a built in utility that does it all.

Just a thought outside of the usual more events, better diplo, skeleton stuff. The game has to live and breath "easy modification"... and the damn editor has to be a bit more hardy than FW.

That is exactly what we need. When/If the source is released, I am going to make a scenario with many many units.

Well, I don't really know to be honest. But anything serious will take at least a year, I imagine. I think you'd better have a look at the CtP2 source code project to get answers to questions like that.

The hardest thing will probably be getting a team together and deciding what exactly we want to do.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We don't even have a letter yet.

Just a bit of advice, if this dream comes true go for a patch first to get familiar with the code and the rest will follow. This game is popular enough so that you will have no actual problem finding people to work on the code. Deciding what to do will not be too hard either.

Thanks, Keygen. It's a very valuable suggestion, more when it comes from people of CTP2
