Rush Palace in Spare Oval (though Contractor complains of this being the problem with the last Palace )

Complete Dragoon in Sad King Julius

    End Turn

Greek Knights attack Warlordian Engineers cleaning pollution on hills south of Lagomorphia, Engineers win and are promoted to Veteran

    1816 Turn (8):

    Cannon kills Greek Cannon
    Fanatic kills Greek Cannon

Contemplete bribing Thebes as my city, would take almost all of our Gold and would be easy to bribe back so decide not to, leave diplomat with one movement point remaining in case my succesor thinks otherwise

Decide to retire without damaging our empire any further

Net Income is now 439 per turn
    Discoveries at 663 turns
Tactics almost complete (though Egyptians have been researching it for a while, so I think we should wait and steal it from them) Then if we can trade it to the French for Communism, we could potentially have Espionage in a couple turns )

We have Embassies with the Egyptians, Chinese & Greeks
We don't have Embassies with the Babylonians, French and Mongols

We have 4105 Gold and 51 Techs (Industrialization and Electricity added during my turnset)

/me passes the Torch (pun intended) to either STYOM or Jrabbit.

    • Nice log, Sparrowhawk.

Shocking number of troops lost vs. AI. Were the 5 units losto the Greeks in 1804 in a stack, or was there a concerted attack?

      • Good call on going Fundy. The income boost and massive troop support will go a long way toward supporting our need to raze.

        • IIRC, the 5 troops were in two seperate stacks, each with a riflemen for protection, and both on Forrest I think. The Fanatic I had moved into the stack for protection (it was the one badly injured on the previous turn), and they were all trying to get to the fortress outside of Heraklia (?sp?). Obviously they didn't make it , though I did later take the fortress and have been accumulating units there for the attack.

Another note to my successor...there is a diplomat in Chinese territory, I was hoping to use it either to establish an embassy with the French or the Babylonians, but they are both a ways away, or to steal tech from the Chinese, but they have nothing we want.

          • Personally, (in SP) I almost never stack moving troops. (Obviously, in some situations, it's unavoidable.) Instead, I put the weakest/least valued troop in harm's way and keep the rest in position to mop up in case of attack (behind/flanking).

(Of course, if the attack is from an unexpected direction, you're screwed.)

Two refleman stacks on forest going down -- sounds like you were a bit unlucky...

I thought so.......or to be more precise.......I thought something like Five units!! How do I explain this to the Succession Game Group!!

They did use Cannons to attack though, so even if non-vet that is 8 attack for them compared to 6 defense for us (assuming non vet, and I am unsure of that...see Leo's/Sun Tzu's discussion above )

No cities taken, but Herakleia has been emptied.
Several cities discovered. Armies built. Several Factories built.
                Treasury preserved.

It's 1816 and a Rabbbit is installed as Grand Imam of the empire. We're at 70-20-10, netting 429 gold and a tech every 38 turns. 4105 in the treasury, reduced to 3986 after some intial investmentsw. We have troops poised against Herakleia, which is protected by walls. We note a Greek city in the black 42, 60. Move sliders to 70-0-30.

Goals -- Get tactics, communism, and espionage, build a railroad, do some exploring. Re-establish embassies as needed. Upgrade infrastructure. Build armies for conquest. Build dips for future spies.

                  1818
                  --Six celebrations cancelled.
--Find Greek city of MEGARA (1). It's occupied.
--Six's Torch appears to be a battleground, but we are adequately entranched in a fortress. Our cannon kills theirs.
                  --Lagomorphia starts Palace.
--Chinese chat (10 cities, Republic, 4 arrows. They are Hostile and demand Inustrialization. We decline, request a peaced treaty. They declare us "unworthy."

--Establish French embassy. They have Communism and Theology, but are tired of our endless chatter.

                  1834
--French nearly done with UN, declare peace with Babylonians.
                  --SpareOval completes factory.

--Lagomorphia switches from cavalry to dip production.
--Stumble upon (and kill) another barb king.
--Dips hit Herakleia (kill knight production, then city walls ). Troops kill remaining 2 defenders, but city is still size 4 when empty, so we don't enter.

(Our mistake was letting them continually hurl defenders to their deaths against our fortressed stack, waiting for enough dips to take all the city's infrastructure. Little did I know the walls would fall with the 2nd dip!!!)

                  1836
--French build the United Nations in Paris, declare peace with Greeks.
                  --Greeks learn Communism.
--We finde Ellipi (6), Pergamon (no walls!), and another city whose name is a weird squiggle starting with M.

                  Troops Afield
--We have some exploring transports out there with dips.
--We have a transport with 3 NONE dragoons and an accompanying Destroyer in the seas between Greek and French lands.
--There's a camel heading east from KenobiKave with demanded Spice. There's a DD escort nearby.

                  Enemy Alert
--The Egyptians are quiet, but keep 2-3 ships active in the seas off Sad King Julius/Six's Torch.
--The Greeks are suicidal, but if we keep letting them kill all their troops in the field, their cities will be difficult to raze.

I opted to build what I could while keepting the treasury in the 4000+ range. IIRC we have a player who lost his city, maybe this will help enable him to reclaim a home.

It's time, I believe, for us to give serious thought to each of us claiming our 2nd city. (Ideally, these would contain WOWs). I decided to wait until we have spies before I grabbing mine.

Also -- The French refuse to trade us Communism, but fortunately, the Greeks have learned it. Steal it now (duh) so we can move on to Espionage!

We need spies so we can use poison attacks. Razing is pretty hit-or-miss without this tool, and we need to start getting these foreign cities off our pristine lands!!!

I am the last person who should be offering RCC (but I will anyway.... ), with celebrating cities under Fundamentalism, I think the net income would have been higher then with 0 Luxuries and higher taxes.

(by your own log, the net income went from 429 gold at 70% taxes to 323 gold at 80% taxes after the celebrations ended)

10% Increase in taxes results in 100 gold less per turn.

While I understand your desire to increase the Science rate, I think if you had adjusted the rates to 50T/30L/20S, you would have achieved the same result without losing the celebrations (and thereby keeping the higher caravan payoffs, both for Science and for Cash ).

/me has become a huge fan of a celebrating Fundamentalist government
                    arty:

Having said that, it seems you had quite a productive turnset , and you are right that it seems I could have attacked Herekalia earlier too , as I also allowed the Greeks to throw units against our fortresses . However, now that you have acquired us tactics (and soon Espionage), the Greeks cannot survive long on our Continent
