  • Well my ISP acted fast and I have my connection back

@ Grandpatroll...while according to rules you could do that (double move after half the timer has gone)..it is not pretty...and in some situations even critical...so I am trying to avoid it.

    • Looks like me and Pinchak could have an issue.

Due to a RL issue (overtime at work) and gitbliss finishing the turn just after I last checked the status of the game yesterday I couldn't play within 18 hours. So couldn't warn Pinchak that this would happen.
Also since I'm not of the opinion that whom plays the turn first during war can switch just like that (something Pinchak seems to be in favour of) I took my "first play" back.
Pinchak, I needed to destroy one unit of yours which could harm me. It might be that you wouldn't have left that unit unprotected or on that position if I've been able to play 2 hours sooner. In any case, the main bulk of my forces you will see was on automove towards the hill next to your surviving unit so it would have moved anyway even if I had missed my turn completely.

      • Its ok, take all the time we need, Im just spoiled all the other games we played with fewer players and quicker turns

I wont say anything else about turn times, for real, its ok by me, play any order anyone needs to

        • I would like to make a formal request that this turn (1000 BC) be reloaded to the start of the turn, and that Japan waits until I finish my turn or the timer reaches 18 hours remaining (whichever occurs first).

I played last turn with 14 hours remaining. Japan had not finished his turn.

Japan (GeoModder) logged in after me, finished his turn (which caused the turn to flip), then he immediately played another turn. I lost a unit due to that double move turn.

Real life issues, although unfortunate, have no barring on the turn order. Giving a "warning" that you will not be able to play in the first 18 hours also has no barring.

Also since I'm not of the opinion that whom plays the turn first during war can switch just like that (something Pinchak seems to be in favour of) I took my "first play" back.
When the timer exceeds half (in this game that is 18 hours), the "second" player is entitled to play regardless of if the "first" player in the turn order has played. This concept gives the "second" player a decent time window in which to play their turn, regardless of the "first" players ability to play within their 18 hour window.

If however, the "second" player plays before the "first" player due to half the timer running out without a "first" player turn being made, this in effect causes the former "second" player to now be the "first" player. The turn order and rules pick up from there.

It has to be this way, otherwise every time a "second" player moves first (due to half the timer running out without a "first" player turn being made), the former "first" player will get a double move (unless they once again miss their 18 hour window, which isn't likely).

A complex (but detailed) explanation for a simple concept.

          • Pinchak

            I am against reloading

            You lost just one unit?

Can I gify you a unit to replace the one you lost?

            I have archers PLENTY

            Maybe 2 Archers?

            Maybe Three Archers?

This way we can move forward and keep this game moving

I know,Iknow, I promised to not have a problem with slow turn rates and Roberts Rules of Order

            But, just offerring an alternative?

Heck you can have all my money in my coffer if it will make you happy and allow the game to move forward

just let me know, its a game and someone gotta win and someone gotta lose....................

            • OK, if we're going to try to maintain a turn order during wars then we do need to sort this out. As far as I can see, the best solution to this is what Pinchak is suggesting that turn-switching is a possibility after the first half of the turn is over.

If we do not enforce turn-switching, the following (bad) options are available:

              1) Player A can guarantee a double-move: all they have to do is not play their turn within the first half, wait for Player B to play theirs, then play their turn. Next turn it reverts to Player A first, thus a double-move.

              2) Goto orders. If Player A does not play their turn at all, goto order will allow them to gain an effective double-move without having to log in. (I concede this would be a risky move)

              I have to support Pinchak's request for a re-load.

              • You lost just one unit?
In a campaign that only has two units, this equals half my invasion force. Even if I had not lost a unit, strategic positioning would have been compromised due to the situation. The only time I feel it is ok to ignore the turn order is during a "cold war" (ie. both sides have no units outside the fog of war). Even this gets questionable at times, especially after railroads, and both parties should agree to ignore turn order until units once again become "engaged". At that point the turn order should pick up where it left off.

This way we can move forward and keep this game moving
I discovered this when it was only 3 hours into the 1000 BC turn. Snoopy (game host) has been PMed and hopefully this is resolved quickly, in which case hardly no time will be lost. As a side note, be advised that ignoring the rules for the sake of keeping the game moving can have a VERY bad effect on the game integrity.

As far as I can see, the best solution to this is what Pinchak is suggesting that turn-switching is a possibility after the first half of the turn is over.
It is the only logical course of action. Every pitboss game I have been in understands this to be the case.

The last thing I want however is a lengthy debate about something that has been discussed hundreds of times before since the advent of pitboss. Snoopy has been PMed, and I trust he will take the correct action.

What's the point in staying as a player at this stage? We're waiting on Snoopy to roll the turn back.
