slight delay there- had unexpected visitors. now back to the empire!
1650-
Cumae builds it's observatory, works on theatre.
Pisae finishes an observatory and after some debate it is decided to move the capitol to this city becaus eof it's more central location. The people up at Chartes are very pleased with this decision as it now allows them to make it to Pisae in one day's travel instead of having to spend a night in Pisae on the way to Antium.
Builders finish a library in Lyons and being work on a Buddhist temple
Rome begins building a galleon (I think they finished an observatory?)
1655-
I take personal command of the caravel in charge of finding us new land (took it off auto explore)
1660 - Paris builds an aquaduct and begins constructing a bank
1665 - Ghandi approaches and offers to trade his pork for our red hot spices. I agree with this and notice he is far ahead of us in technology!
Our first Galleon is built in Rome, dubbed the 'Globetrotter'
Antium finishes an observatory and I tell the workers to hit the books (research)
cumae finishes theatre- works on colloseum
I have forgotten about those great people! We're currently 1 gold in the hole so I send the great merchant to our most lucrative town (antium) and add him there as a resident, this immediately brings us up to +12 gold per turn. I send the artist up to Lyons near the Russian border.
It seems 'ol Alexander has been busy preparing for this. By the time he declared war he already had an army on our doorstep and they have already moved in and destroyed a plantation near Lyons.
Seeing as the main problem is Alexander's free passage through Russia I went to Catherine to see if I can negotiate anything- and I see declare war on Alexander is WHITE ! I ask her what it would cost though and she slaps me and says it's impossible! Hmm, game bug?
I checked her status with Alexander and she is indeed friendly with him, so no chance of getting her to even cancel her open borders with Alexander let alone declare war! Wonder why the option was white though...
And looks like no other leader is willing to side with us against Alexander so we're on our own!
Luckily we do have a pretty good number of troops in the region and I' started upgraded some to Macemen.
For mroe gold I reduced our culture slider and moved it into tax (to upgrade troops quicker)
Also, almost the entire empire is now working on military units. We must protect our homeland!
Oh and we researched steel, research begin on Education... and our explorer boarded the galleon and is now searching for rich new lands.
1685- Alexander's main army near Lyons slit into two groups. A smaller group consisting of 1 xbowman, 1 horse archer and 1 catapult went north and pillaged the next spice plantation. The other larger group is now just outside of Lyons- you'll see what they're made up of in a sec...
One of our generals decided to make a daring assault on the smaller group using 1 Grenadier and 2 Macemen. They succeeded in annihilating the small group without any major losses.
The third Greek army group (also small one) outside Rheims has pillaged a mine and is staying on the hill for now. Rheims has been reinforced with 1 musketman and the knights from Antium.
1690 - Mars smiles down upon our forces! It is a glorious day!
The foolish, arrogant Greek army thought they could assault Lyons... boy were they surprised!
3 Macemen, 1 horse archer and 1 xbowman dared to cross the mountain pass and charge into Lyons... none survived. Our grenadier, several macemen and a praetorian held off the attack without losing a single unit!
We then moved in for the kill- destroying the remaining 2 chariots and catapult in the forest outside of Lyons!
near Rheims the enemy has inched closer and pillaged our winery... we decide the odds are currently not in our favor so we hold tight and stay defensive. Our first brand new cannon from Antium is on it's way!
With Lyons now in the clear our troops there can heal up while the Commander of Lyons Garrison hands out awards and promotions.
I wish I could see Alexander's face when his messengers return to tell him the horrible news of his botched surprise attack against our glorious empire!
May Mars bring fortune to the next Emperor as he has for me!
edit: oh and since I was unsure of Lyons fate the Great Artist is hunkered down in Paris.. so next ruler can decide what to do with him
