Yeah, it's one of my favourites as well... especially if a players misses out on both the Oracle and Stonehenge.

stonehenge isn't THAT great... the monuments have been empowered a bit but it comes at the cost of missing out on about 4-5 different resources

Monuments coming at the cost of resources? What do you mean? The time needed to construct Stonehenge instead of your first worker? In any case, to me Stonehenge is great on its own if you have a religion, since you can use your first great priest for building the shrine of that religion. Ergo, extra cash in rest of the game.

monuments "prevent" you from going for calendar. and calendar opens up loads of resources (banana, incense, spices, silk, sugar)...

i like stonehenge better if you want a religion but don't have it yet. if you DO, you can always build a temple and use a priest. but without a religions there's no way of preparing for your later religion....

That's the drawback of playing on Quick. I never manage to fill the techtree on that speed, even in singleplayer.

in retrospect we should have gone for normal game speed. our pace is decent enough to finish such a game. and a small map like we have now makes even normal speed fast enough

Not only a rapid growing capital, but a high hammer capital as well.

if you remember earlier, i said i had forgotten to chop forests... now i have been profiting of earlier building "delays".

my score will by the way soar in approx 8 turns when i build a jungle city in the only unclaimed territory and culture-bomb it. that will secure me 2 further future city sites

oh, and great lighthouse only costs 134 hammers. with a forge and organised religion i have +50%. making it around 90 hammers expensive. each forest chop gives 20. i used 2 forests and "built" the other 50 in about 4 turns... not unreasonable even in a mediocre city...
