If we had a 24 hour timer I would have to miss a turn today because I rushed to work, and I have a long day plus ballgame tickets after. So I may be away from CPU for at least 17 hrs. Add that to 6 hrs sleepytime beforehand and it adds up to a missed turn with a 24 hr timer.

Why add 6hrs sleepytime? You can play before and after you go to sleep.

Ah, I wasn't clear on that. The 6 hrs sleep is before work, not after. On a day when I have to be on a train to work at 6AM, you need an hour to get ready for work, so that means waking at 4 something AM to play civ, which is just not going to happen on a weekday. So if the turn rolls right after I go to bed, and I am rushing in to work early and don't have time to play before work, then that could be a potential 15+ hours that I can't play when you add sleep to work+travel time.And if I have after work plans, that could be potentially 20+ hours where I just can't play. So especially if I am subbing for multiple civs (often), that's a whole bunch of missed turns just because we want to punish Mongolia

To me, if we are mad Mongolia is holding up the turn by not playing, the solution is not to punish them by making the turn even shorter, making it harder for EVERYONE to play. The solution IMO is to find Mongolia a permasub. Hell, I'll do it if it means we can stick with the longer turn.

The problem is not with mongolia (they had played last turn for example), but there is always one-or two civs who think it's not that important to play in the current turn - and missing every second turn when you are not in war is usually not a problem at all, everything can be queued.- but with such a long turn timer it holds up the game for others.

Hey, I don't want the blame if it leads to pauses then . The nations who are at war should confirm that they can make their turn in 24h (12-12) so we can have shorter timer.
