Tir returned to his camp outside Rome.

    Tir

Send a letter to my wife in Korecom, she must be worried about my safety here.

Dear wife all is going well, I have done great progress with the Roman representatives. Seems they are much more diplomatic than they seem from far away. I am nearly done here, I now wait for a response from last night’s talks. I expect that some revisions may be needed, but do not worry I foresee to be back home with you in the next 4-5 days. Please send my son much love and tell him that his father is on the edge of a great success here in Rome. From tomorrow our two people will have a new beginning.

    Love

    Tir

      Tir

Now send this letter to The Bear Slayer and his clan in the desert.

Bear Slayer I write to command you to leave those lands. I have spent the better part of last month cleaning up after your disobedience. Rome is angry at you, so I personally had to ride to Rome and offer them reparations for what you have done and your people. I command you to immediately head for Korecom and meet with me. I expect you to follow these orders, if you decide not to consider yourself banned from Portugal forever.

Please send your offer before 50BC or we will be forced to violate Portugal's territorial sovereignty

Portugal has sent already of what we spoke of in your private meeting with Tir, so the ball is in your court as the saying goes Marcius. Portuguese are well known for their prompt and in time diplomatic matters.

So now my leader awaits your response.

Long ago, your people requested two things from the Metalheads. Missionaries to spread our religion and a workboat. It has taken many, many years, but at last these gifts are ready. They will each be sent, however, we are disappointed to learn the Khmer are now reconsidering the wisdom of becoming followers of the Church of Metal.

We ask that the Khmer accept our missionary and become true believers as originally planned.

The life and times of Isabella, Spainish Empress

            Dear diary,
It is quite lonely being a woman leader in the midst of men who are quite rough and often argumentative. I have dreamt for a long time of finding that right man to help me lead this world into a new era of peace and justice for all, not just for the mighty. I dream of a man who will treat me right and not just as some trophy as a gift for his conquest. I fear that I might not find such a man since whenever people see me they think that I am just too powerful for any man to want like me. When I try and look pretty, they just think that I am some cheap slut who is trying to get their attention. It is so tough being a female leader. You have to be put up with so many stereotypes. If I look like this woman most men will only ever fantasise about trying to bed me,even though I try and look powerful.

And if I try to look feminine for those special occasions, men still think the same way about me.

Why do men always think of sex when the see a fashionable woman who keeps up with the trends and wants to look attractive? Why can't we be left in peace to live our lives the way we want without being subjected to the sick thoughts of these men, who should be paying better attention to their wives and not just the latest thing that walks around. Why can't men just think with their brains and their secondary brain? It just makes me mad. I want to be respected for my for my leadership and the decisions I make for my great nation. I want to be remembered a a ruler that governed wisely and made her nation great. One that will go down in the annuals of history. Well it looks like that I will unfortunately be married to my Empire for the time bein since there are just no suitable men around.
            Isabella. Spainish Empress.

Office of Foreign Affairs - HRE

Philip had never seen the office like this. It was BUSY!Extra tables had been brought in, as had new scribes. There was even a translator who knew the basics of the Khmer language.

Advisors were coming and going from the palace, reviewing drafts, asking for changes, and then rushing them back to the palace. Things certainly had changed since the new Emperor had taken over.

Seeing the Head Scribe of Foreign Affairs catching him gazing about, Philip quickly got back to the task of writing the letter to the Funglish. He felt very honored.

Shiva of Khmer - you have a letter via g-mail.

As the Roman king Ancus Marcius speaks in the Senate...

"... and so I think that the peace proposal is fair and will be a basis of a new friendship between Rome and Portugal."

The speech was a long one and Ancus expected an applause but none was to be heard. It was only then that he noticed Piercian Immortals together with a few Roman legionaries had entered the Senate building. The standards of the Roman soldiers indicated they where under the command of General Aelius.

The man confidently walked into the Senate slowly clapping, clearly mocking Ancus.

                      "General, why are you here?"

"The real question is why you are here. My lord."

Ancus saw a dangerous glean in the eyes of the foreign soldiers....

                      "This is treason."

"We agree on that. Singing such a treaty with the first enemies of Rome is clearly treachery..."

"Guards seize him!" No one acted, it was only then that Ancus noted that he did not recognize any of his guards. How foolish he had been. He tried to compose himself.

"We have had good relations with the Portuguese for centuries!"

"If by good relations you mean selling Roman lands, then I agree. I think Rome has had enough of good relations. And of kings for that matter."

As he spoke those words the king noticed an unusual red stain spreading soiling his purple robe. He had been stabbed and had barley noticed it. He looked around confused and in shock He tried to walk away but with each step a dagger was thrust into his chest. His assailants where many, and several where his "friends". He lied on the floor unable to speak because of the bleeding, he remained alive for a several more minutes discarded and ignored by all... long enough to hear of snippets of the general's speech.

"...I move that the Senate vote on a declaration of war against Portugal..."

"... the king's plot to dissolve the senate..."

"... in order to ensure continued security and stability of Rome the Roman Kingdom will be reformed as the first Roman Republic. Tyrants will no longer dominate our people. The Senate will have full control over the state and will answer only to the people. Off course such an arrangement will take time and it is inappropriate for us tarry in times of war. I thus put to a vote my nomination as Dictator with emergency powers. *applause* All in favor? *thunderous applause* This saddens me as I love Rome, let me assure you once this crisis is over I will step down as dictator and allow for the election of a consul for our new republic."

"The Portuguese man known as Tir is to be arrested and executed tomorrow morning. I will now step down to let our esteemed guest the Piercian ambassador speak.

'This is what I get for pardoning my enemies. I should have killed them all like other kings do...You... I see you speak and as death nears me I can see the future... you will give up your powers when Hades freezes.

How can the senators be so blind... are you so skilled? ... or have they been blinded by someone else. Is there hope? I can not see... another man of war, a man with honor... or is that folly as well?'
thought the king and died. He laid unburied for several days until his sister Antigone defied the new tyrant's whims and buried him.

                      ****

The man known as Tir was unconscious. Caelius set him on a horse and gave him a short note explaining his actions. He had ordered his men in Rome to rescue him from prison. The man awoke but was unable to speak for he was gagged.

"The fates may have decreed we are at war, but I will not let Rome do blasphemy by killing you. If only there was another way... these horses know the way to outpost. Warn your people the forces of Aelius are already on the southern hill. Many Romans and Portugese will be dining in Hell this year if this madness does not end."

                        Near the coast

Tir was a wise ruler, so he knew that he needed to protect his family, even with peace just over the horizon with the Romans.

So he left orders to his closest men to escort his only son and rightful ruler of Portugal over the high seas to beautiful Isabella. Rumors has it that Prince Marco who was about to turn 25 has for some time now been planning to visit the beautiful queen of Spain. Some say that after seeing a painting of the queen, he has never been the same man.

So off he sealed far from this nightmare.

The King the King the king, a boy messenger was running and screaming through the streets of Korecom. The Romans have invaded our motherland; they are just 2 days away from burning the ancient city of Outpost. The King will be executed, our King who went unarmed in hope of making peace with the Romans. Who trusted that he will be able to reason with them, trusted so much that he went alone.

The Queen stepped out and said calm down my countrymen, do not loss hope. We still have friends in Rome. We should hope for the best!

                          She ordered:

We need to pull back the children, women, merchants and clergy from Outpost. Yesterday a city of light and full of life, now a ghost town. Only crows are left soaring over the town.

From: General Aelius, Dictator of Rome

Rome is henceforth a Republic. We are governed by two consuls elected every aetas. We have declared war on the Kingdom of Portugal, and I have been granted temporary emergency powers for the duration of the war. I have the right to make and enforce laws, the right to arrest anyone without pressing formal charges in cases of "reasonable suspicion", I am the supreme commander of the military, I have the right to temporarily dissolve the Senate and I have the right to determine our foreign policy. Please inform your foreign ministers.

'My army is a magnificent sight.' thought Dictator Aelius as he surveyed the encampments they had made on the hill. He would not be staying long, he needed to return to Rome to weed out the traitors and would have to cede control of the army to Caelius who was stationed with a smaller force north. It had been so long since they where promoted by Hostilius. He wondered what kind of a man Caelius had become, he had heard disturbing reports that he was close to the King.

If this proved to be the case his position would be more precarious than he had thought when planing this coup'd etat, he would need to consult with the Piercian diplomat and his trusted adviser the senator Palpatine.

On the road north from Outpost to the Holy city of Vrata. The road was filled with carts and people trying to get to the safety of Vrata. Due to their age many senior citizens of Outpost could not leave so they stayed behind. Their love ones not being able to leave them all alone decided to stay as well. So three dozens or so families locked themselves in their homes awaiting tomorrows certain death. Many knew that they were sealing their faith by staying home, but still being with their love ones ment more to them than the cold blade of the Roman legions.
