Leiv Eriksson would name his son Thorkil and he would be Thorkil Leifsson/Leivison (or similar), a daughter might be named Freydis Leifsdottir. This namegiving tradition disappeared from the scandinavian countries in the 1800's, but I believe is still continued on Iceland and possibly some other islands in the north sea like the Faeroyes. Sorry to get all retentive on you, but my norse pride grows strong at times...

      Strange Creatures Spotted

One day, the piercian scout division was really scared by what they saw. Walking on the riverside, one of them saw movement in the water not too far away. He decided to investigate and what he saw was a great creature... at least, a part of it :

Since the creature didn't seem to care about him being around, he watched it, hoping to get a better idea of what it may look like. But it remained in the water, so that he could only guess...
He made a few scetches of his ideas, and sent them to Pierced Hill :

He assumed in deed that a creature of this size, could only live in the ocean, and that the one he saw must have been lost. He hoped it would find his way home soon.

          Back in the Palace
          -------------------

The family met again as they usually did. Late in the evening in the grand hall.

The topic of debate today was how many grains of sand were in the garden.

Debate raged for hours, some said more some said less.

Eventually it was agreed , there were enough grains of sand.

@ "Vikings" well in that case, maybe a custom name would fit better? You can change your nation's name by opening "Your details" in the game menu when logged in. And as a matter of fact, I've already played the vikings in a previous HOTW Diplomacy game, so forgive me for trying to give you some tips as to the culture of the civ you're running. As you are not running said culture, perhaps a renaming to make it clear would be in order. Just a suggestion.

Honor Lord Oda with a true tail or your conquest and he will let you into his palace. Show him proof of your victory and he will let you in his war room with him. If you were personally fighting in the battle then he will let you see his face. If you are with honor then he will speak to you. If you fail in anyone of these conditions you will be beheaded on the spot and your head will be placed on a pike at the edge of our border as a warning to others while your body will be sent back to your land along with all hopes of peace.

News from Windy Hill and from the North

The door of the Piercian palace was opened wide for the day of the return of one of our scouts. The one who was send to the hill indicated by the spirits of the wind. After 30 years, he came home with a great gift for his empress :

He was offered a true feast, the first of his life actually. And he was shown what his fellows had discovered in the north. He was most intrigued about the strange creature, and decided to send his son on a journey in order to find out what they were.

News from the north came in, but didn't have any important discovery to report, exept a new creature. This one was believed to be a servant of the earth spirits :

                      The woman

One fine evening Lord Oda went out for a walk along the beach. As he walked down the beach all he could think about was his plans for the future. He thought about where to expand to next and what still needed to be done to unite the torn island of Japan. Before he knew it he was 20miles away from his home. Yet he was not worried at all for there was no one who could match his skills as a fighter. Then all the sudden he saw a figure lying on the sand. He slowly got closer not letting the figure notice his approach. As he got closer the figure became more and more vivid. “It’s a woman,” said Oda to himself as he crept closer to get a better view. The woman did looked unlike any he has seen before. She the stood up and looked over in lord Oda’s direction. Her eyes piercing his very soul leaving him unable to speak or move; Her hair was long and came up to the middle of her back; it was red and looked as if it was aflame in the light. Her beauty that beyond any goddess; yet it was her blue eyes, which were as blue as the clearest ocean that made his body weak; but before he could say a word she was gone as if she was a ghost or a distant memory. Oda slowly gathered himself up and made an oath to himself to find that woman and make her his wife.

Exploring North through the Wilderness, the scouts have found very little except grassland. Traversing up a river, the scouts believe to have discovered signs of human life in the distance. A closer inspection is required , but Brennus is happy on the hope that he is not alone in this world. The scouts have also brought word that some wild cows are roaming the lands to the north. However, after careful observation, these cows appear to graze in the same place all the time, never venturing out of their personal square acreage.

                                ---------

Many decades passed and the Williams family failed to breed heirs so the scouting expedetion was taken over by the Baden family. Henry Baden led them further eastward but due to the lack of discovery he committed suicide and pleaded with his follwoers to go back where they had come from, to try and find the Golden City of Old.
Henry's daughter Elizabeth married a young man called Stephen Powell, and it was their son that took leadership when all ooked grim.

And so it was that their son, Robert Baden-Powell, did gather all the people together and encouraged them to continue their search.
