Not writing a story at start of game saying "my tribe is warlike" and especailly not posting at all.

In peaceful times you guys are trying to tell my that peaceful coutnries have to have troops with every worker and in every city at all times.

That is absolute crap, it is not relaity nor how diplo should be played.
I did have all ozzys citys defended, but was using a worker to link his two citiys, in peace that worker should be able to work anywhere.

There was no tension in the area. if one solitary post had been made about the HRE being concerned with metalheads i would have escorted the worker.

DIPLO is not about launching surprise attacks against undefended workers that is standard CIV4. No DIPLO.

Japan, in your hypothis i would poist something like hte following

"Met those vikings they seem very dodgy. their words do not match their actions"

"The vikings are interfering in our reltionships with the Coreans this is not good"

"Fred, send word to the Vikings to cease anddesist imediatly, we will not take no for an answer"

Then launch your war as it has reason.

The war you describing currently in your post is not DIPLO war but CIV war. The reason for going to war with anyone needs to be well posted in stories well before the war starts. You dont goto war in DIPLO just for the sake of war. to grab an unescorted worker.

But anyway i am over this NON-DIPLO action,

The likes of Toni will continue to state, it all MY fault for not expecting war, he obviously palys DIPLOS full of war.
I know my civ is in civil war but that wasn't why I asked. I just wanted to know just incase I do go to war I don’t have to go through all this drama. I just want to be able to do what I want without anyone complaining I did something unfair or I attacked without warning. Thank you for the explanation it’s been of great help.

    • Oh, and that's why a vet is not someone who wins games, imho.
It's someone who's able to write interesting stories. Who can comabine game-playing with story-writing.

It's someone who's able to lift civilization from bits and bites to reality.

A n00b is someone who attacks without a story or any environment.

IMHO a new player can be a vet. If he's able to adapt immediately.

            • That's what I said in my post. You can have a common goal, but that's not the same as forming an alliance, having full-dept friendship. Sharing all knowledge, maps, mutual-defence, etc.

But once again, if there's a good story, a good reason, then it's possible. I dare everyone to find a good reason to let a nazi civ and a liberal civ join forces and become friends

              • I think that we have some palyers here who have no idea what DIPLO is about and are simply playing it like any normal Civ MP game.

                • Well, there have always been debates over what a diplogame is all about. I remember discussions like that back in HOTW II.

As usual, the best way to keep the community going is to keep picking up dedicated and enthusiastic players. I'm hoping we can get some, because I intend on playing a diplogame soon. Hopefully whenever the next one is announced.

                  I'm itching to play...

This time around I shouldn't be going anywhere.

I hope you mean it this time Capo, the way you left last game definitely hurt your reputation as an reliable player in the diplo community.

                    • Welcome back capo, i loved your style in Diplo so look forward to seeing you back in one.

should start a new one now, this pitboss style allows for playing a few games at once so if a new host can be found i would join you capo.

                      • Raz, the problem with you is that you only point fingers and state how unhappy you are with people.

Damn it man you haven’t said one nice thing all those hundreds of posts of yours.

If you care so much about Diplo, well try to be nice for once and help us make this game a great one. No one is prefect, but having constantly hearing you b*****h about the game is getting us no where. I know I am not perfect, but I listen to what people want and I am a team player. I have changed much since the 1st diplo game I played. I care more about the game now then before and I try to promote the game and the style. Not all here are bad as you think, there are people maybe 90% of us who care about this game and want to have fun playing it. You posts are all about negativity, I know you mean good, but it just comes out very strange.

                        • See above for my voting, you see i reward good DIPLO palyers with my votes.

As to the at least two palyers here who are ruining DIPLO i will not play with them again.

Their idea of diplo and mine is too different.

As to my posts being negative. You should refer to many of posts in the Diplos i palyed. i am honest and post as i see, in those diplos i often spoke glowingly of my fellow players.

In this game, i have seen little to praise for yet. I wont praise for the player who wins , but hte player who has a story to follow.

So far Japn is doing the best at that. will be interesting to see it play out in the game. Ozzy is also follwoing his story plan.

As mentioned ealrier. for all the religions founded and two wars entered into. Nealry every one has met at least one other civ and yet no stories on these issues.

Toni you obviously a good Civ player no doubting that. I dont know which civ you are (hope it not MAYA) but i havnet seen much story stuff, if you japan keep building that story i like it. if you one of the quiet ones then please post more.

                          • Well, there's no 'solid' rule or something.
A fascist civ cannot join an alliance with a communistic civ. A civ that's supporting freedom of religion cannot start an alliance with a civ where people from different religions are being killed.
These two quotes are good examples of the problem I have with these loose, subjective rules. Civ is alot like chess in the respect that you must plan your moves out ahead of time. So when you got your plan going, then one of the "experts" gives his professional opinion that what you are doing isn't in the "spirit" of the game, it can really mess you up.

According to Cybers assessment of how you should lead your civ in diplo, the Maya are right on target. A warlike people run across a defenceless people who look different and speak a different lanuguage. Hmmm, what would mostly likely happen in real life?

It's always my thing to try to put it into my stories in such a way that in advance other civs didn't saw it coming, but afterwards, when they re-read my stories, they say: "ah, it's there!
I wrote a nice size story about how the Maya fought each other since the begining of time, about how they picked up bronze working early for the purpose of war, and about how they honor battle, about how they are warlike. If the civ next to me wrote those things I sure as hell would make sure I was defended.

I hate to rekindle old fires, but I constantly see a double standard not just with this particular instance, but in past diplogames, and on a fairly consistance basis.

Without black and white rules fights will continue as people give their 50 different opinons about what is right. Fact of the matter is, when rules are subjective the ONLY person who is right is the one who says "there is no rule".

When people threaten to back up the game, or pause the game however, this very clearly inplies that there IS a rule. Fine, so there IS a rule, BUT CAN I PLEASE KNOW WHAT EXACTLY IT IS SO I CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY INSTEAD OF HAVING TO GUESS IF IT WILL BE ALLOWED BY THE VETERAN PLAYERS!

                            • You know I kind of agree with the Mayans. It would make life allot easier if there were written rules we all had to follow. All this arguing is making my head hurt. Maybe if we all just got together and made rules of engagement like each country has in real life we can get past all this fighting and no one would have to guess what is and isn’t ok.
