  • If we playing this game for fun and no need for balance, then i hope produce a winner of the game based on the stories and not the game result.
There was a need to balance, and it is balanced... as balanced as anything the AI would have produced.

I don't know how people can claim it is unbalanced when they haven't even met another nation, let alone seen the map. (well, I do know exactly where they got this idea...)

The winner is determined by game result, and stories combined.

Just a side note, I don't see how huts could help anyone more then anyone else. Everyone would have access to them equally.

PS: Congrats Cyber. My wife is due in 4 months. Did you find out the sex ahead of time? My guess is you did.

    • My first thought was unballanced as well, but after a 2nd (deep) look my conclusion was: ballanced. Well, it's obviously not 100% equal, but no civ game is.

My worries are with the size of the map, not with the spread of the resources. And oh well, a big size will just be another type of game. I'm enjoying it very well so far!

@pinchak: thanks! we knew in advance! We had a son already and wanted to know
Do you know? Good luck for the coming months!

      • The map is pretty.

No huts means no bonuses , i need bonuses , i take the risk that others dont get there first. but oh well there are none, so no need to build a scout to replace my dead one.

            • you can see my world in the picture thread, surprises me how much people feel the need to hide the ingame pics but that is normal nothing new.

I have never ever lost a scout to a lion so i was very surprised to login and find my scout misisng. must be the difficulty level making the barbs stronger.

Wish i had started with a warrier now not a scout. but i guess i chose the wrong civ.

By time i build my first warrier i am expecting Barb warriers at my door

with so many lions on my city borders, i cant even make a settler to found a second city, i will need to make warriers to escort the settler or the lions will kill the settler.

Unfortunalty this means a long long delay to any expected growth in my area.

oh well it is a pretty map.

              • If it makes you feel any better Japan's warrior has completely destroyed everything in its path so far. So the level isn’t why the barbs are stronger then you. Its because your weak. If you lucky you might be able to keep barbs at bay if you can't defend for yourself then Japan is always willing to keep you as a vassal till you become strong enough to fend for yourself.

                  • Well, my scout was on a hill when it happened... the lions had 25,6% chances to win, but they won. Let's face it, **** happens.

                    • if your scout was on the hill when it happened did you hear the screams of pain comming from the viking scout or did the scout just dei fast without any noise?

Starting unit is probably the LAST thing I consider when choosing a civ. Personally, I would rather have a scout than a warrior regardless of huts on or off.

Actually, building units instead of settlers/workers will allow your city to grow in size. I wouldn't fret much about losing the scout, you always want to escort a high cost unit like a settler regardless of what you can actually see at the time.

Sorry, I had to laugh at this.

Looks as though there are very mixed feelings about the map... which is exactly what I expected when I sent the final version to Cyber. All I can say is no matter what happens this early in the game, be glad there is enough land to go around for slow starters to still be prosperous long term.

this is not the story thread.. if it comes to me not being able to defend myself i wont return to play agaisnt the barbs.. no fun there.

For us newbies, please expalin why. what is the point of fast exploring if no huts, surely the risk of barbs is worth starting with a Warrier.!

in the games i played at SP, never had an issue to early in game with so many barbs around my first city. i usually get to build to 3rd city before seeing them that close and can build archers by then so get good escorts if needed for further expansion.

I think i am out of my league playing here.
