  • Ras, it's in the manual that comes with the game.

    Although, I still don't see what everyone has against Finland. I admit Denmark is better (they have Legoland!!!) but all of Scandinavia is great.

    Anywho, I can't remember the traits of the civ I picked (but I don't care), but I have a worrying feeling that I might have picked a Financial Civ... it's not a guilty feeling, more a fear of Ras's Jihad... I don't play for the War, nor do I play for the Finance, I play for the Science... why should I be singled out?

      Wittlich, you shall be my Vassal for as long as it is possible in the game. In exchange, you will get another cookie.

      NOT! I refuse your simplistic cookie.

                Well, I made a suggestion and there was very little discussion and certainly no agreement. I definitely did not pick FIN trait, regardless.

                I agree with your points but don't have a discussion now when no agreement was made and we've now made our choices. Further discussion damages other perceptions...

                • Toni: You can pick a new civ, if you want. Since Beta has picked a civ as well it will still be a tad bit anonymous

                  Regarding the fin-trait, I don't think it's that bad. Players like Toni, deity and Ozzy are just good players, no matter what trait they use. Sure, fin has an advantage in peacefull games, but who says this is going to be peacefull?

                  Anyway, Toni, it's up to you, you can pick a new civ now. (or the same again)

                    • I like Master of the Pit, but "Beyond the Pit" seems a bit more HUGE.

                      And, with 18 players, you can be sure there will be many wars. There is not enough land for everybody.

                      BTW FIN helps with military upkeep as well, so i definitively agree : DEATH TO THE FIN TRIBES !

                      EDIT : We could make a religion for all ennemys of the FIN tribes !

                      • ..and so the nomdic tribe formed citys and they did explore, they built roads and farms, they wandered the land, and upon their travels they met a strang epeople. At first glance they appeared the same as thier own people, but upon their backs were Fins, and the Fin people were not liked , they were feared. When word of these Fin people arrived back in the temple the priests did declare that they were abominations to the one true god. So it was decreed that the people with Fins must die to appease the holy order......

                          I think Ozzy is very very right. Its good to hear Deity and Ozzy didn't pick Fin civs.

                          I like:

                          • @ raz

                            financial is a bit overpowered due to the synergy (gods I hate marketspeak). 1. faster to get religion = more $. 2. faster to get new weapons tech = defence. 3. more money for more upkeep = bigger army. 4. more cash flow allows more cities = more production, more resources. 5. more cash = possible higher investments in culture/espionage. 6. with the abovementioned bonuses you get more power, more money, more culture = more dominance. up up and away.

                            industrious is almost useless if you're behind in the tech race though, so I don't feel it is overly overpowered. and it can be matched with resources. (of course an ind civ with marble, stone, copper and ivory... gods would fear it)
                            regardless, choices have been made, lets fight it out!

                            There is one thing I suspect we have not determined 100%. and that is game length. I believe Epic has some votes, but personally, I would like to stomp my foot on normal. the reason should be obvious. how many turns total in Epic and Normal?

                            Normal=500 turns
                            Epic=750 turns

                            Counting 1 turn per day, even with the first 100 turns played on quicker speed, we're still in for more than a year of play. MORE than a year. with epic, we're talking almost TWO YEARS! sorry to say, but that does seem a bit long. what do people think?

                            • No normal feels rushed, we won't experience the ages propoerls, and if we don't experience the ages then how is this any better/ different than a advanced start! I am fully behind epic but think we should have a classical start. To the nay sayers I say, play a game with it and you will see how great that setting is! It will also help poorer players and will reduce the advantage Fin civs have.

                              • No against classical start
                                Tried it, keep saying nay.
                                The first turns are perhaps the turns I love most.

                                Maybe LzPrst is right, 750 turns is 2 years! (even with classical start it almost 2 years)

                                Maybe we should play normal.
                                Trust me, 1,5 years won't feel rushed at all.
