Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
“The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters.” -Genghis Khan (allegedly)
Reasons why this session was a disappointment and what we can learn from them:
-I was late, costing the game about 10 min. Lesson: The existing “after 15 min continue without him” rule covers this.”
-It took us 35-40 min to figure out Mongolia had a problem and that we needed Inca to host (I am remembering this right, right?) Lesson: This has happened before, Mongolia used to be a perfect host but in the past few months we have often had to rely on Inca as host. Something has changed.
-Some player where very slow with turns (early session- Ottomans, early middle and late middle Me, rest of the time it was someone else). Lesson: Experienced players need to avoid the temptation to micromanage. New players need to learn how to speed up their game, I myself would welcome any pointers.
-every 30 min or so at least one of these civs would have a connection glitch that would take time to fix Lesson: Not much. It is a good argument in favour of switching to pitboss though.
-the game is getting sluggish, at the start of the session my units and cities had no problem, by the end of the session, despite there being fewer units, there where some issues. Perhaps a memory leak? Lesson: Perhaps ending the session midpoint and starting a new one will improve the games stability and performance.
-Ottomans did not want to negotiate, France was cautious to turn with such a situation. This is in many ways a situation similar to the Amero-Carpathian wars, just that the Ottoman defeat was more complete and that France took turns hostage fever times than America. Lesson: We need to discourage players from refusing to negotiate when in desperate situations. This is becoming a new problem of diplo gaming.
Reasons why this session was a good one:
-It was a session (cancelled sessions have been too prolific)
-A big fun war was fought.
-All players where present.
-Carpathia was eliminated, despite what they said, they did quit without saying anything and it was annoying to have an AI civ keep reminding us of this.
-The balance of power has changed
-Backward civs are catching up (Russia can no longer be considered a backward civ, Mali will need some development and lots of international aid, but I'm sure they can advance very quickly)
-America under Ozzys guidance has completed its transition from backwater to a superpower.
Notes:
-My sincere apologies to Mali, who I accidentally vassalised. I hope the aid I’m providing off sets this big inconvenience. BTW How can this be cancelled? Again, I’m really, really sorry it was very very early. : (
-The argument for a pitboss game have become very strong in my opinion. Russia has said they will not play such a game, would any other civ object so strongly? I may know one player who would like a pitboss diplo game. Next week we won't have Ottomans, and we probably won't have me, will anyone else be missing?
-Can’t wait to see the Incan city graph. Since we haven’t seen it in more than a month, I’ve forgotten the balance of land & power. Please post it Inca, we love statistics!
-We played about 2,5 hours out of 5, a bad result.
yes. a lot of time was lost, but in the end that is unfortunately what we have to be prepared for. patience is a must, but people must also try to hurry up. and negotiations should not be unless players have ended their turns. dragging out time by talking when others are waiting really steals a LOT of time.
do we look for subs for Otto and France next session? we should start early. maybe Agent will be available and Vampgelus previously did a great job with France. could those of you who know them contact them?
I will try Agent some time this week to seeif he wants to sub for France.
Also as i said i was very disappointed in Ottos, it felt like they were stalling the game on purpose. Which really hurt some ppl like myself Mali and Russia sitting there and waiting for hrs.
Vampgelus said that generaly, it is too early a time for him, but it may be possible to presuade him. Also I think finding a sub for Ottomans should be top priority too. Leaving them to the AI this session may create a "Carpathian effect".
Ok, so while the session was fun in that lots was going on, it wasn't fun because even with our super session we only got through a few turns. Tech issues combined with late game war & lag (plus possible intentional stalling) was very frustrating.
I really think the game is advanced enough that going Pitboss wouldn't be that painful. We each have a lot of stuff to do on our turns since we now have lots going on, so... lets discuss and vote seriously on whether to switch this to Pitboss. I'm in favor of it. Plus it'll be easier on everyone's schedules. No one has to stay up really late or get up really early.
So I'm calling for a vote. Who is in favor of switching this game to Pitboss?
France - YES
Holland - YES
Inca -
Russia - NO
Mongolia -
America - YES
Mali -
Ottomans -
Also, who here can host it?
France -
Holland -
Inca -
Russia -
Mongolia -
America - NO
Mali -
Ottomans -
sorry France (not read your post yet) but I've been in a very bad mood for weeks because of family/health issues and work overload issues. Luckily finances are stable so not quite nervous breakdown material yet!
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila
You are as duplicitous in real life as you are in character!!
I have it in King Chat that you said "You saw a good deal and you took it." I.e. the Mali AI offer to become your vassal. They approached me first but I declined - it is the default I believe.
Duh, I already said that is what I tought I saw. I tought it was an ok deal, didn't really register what it was. Don't qutie see what you mean here... unless you think I was plaining on taking the vassalge in other words breaking diplo rules and being stopid enough to want higher maitenance while fighting an expensive war.
I'm sorry somewho that dosen't fit. What possible benefit could I have? Remember I already had all of the resources the Mali could offer, I had more than enough happines. Also I had good realtions with Mali before, it makes no sense for me to accept something like this and earn the players hate.
It was a mistake, and I am sorry for it. If you don't trust my word on this, then I'm sorry to hear that. I don't quite understand how I earned your RL distrust.
Have I been disruptive to the game? Have I been an obstruction in organising stuff? Or have I often tried to organise people? I do admit in the past month I have often been missing, but several civs have needed to leave the game in the past for extended periods of time.
As to ingame characters:
Even my in game characters, which can be threacherus, as much as any historical figure was, have been honest for the most part, at least compared to the level of deception needed for running a civ semi-competently.
I come to think of it do not rember a single duplicitus action beyond the sale of weapons to both sides in a long forgotten war, and may I remind you that I had Vladimir in charge at that time? I tought it was ok to play the bad guy now and then?! How come people didn't notice how I kept RP good guys for most of the game? IF you check the other chat logs you will see that whenever there was a natural disaster France offered aid, and we gave lots of it out when the nation accepted. Every single time all the way to about a month ago.
Was I ever a threat to peacefull neigburing countires? I never fough to gain land, in fact the only new land I gained in the entire game through conquest was one city (Edire), all the rest where wars where some civ came and settled in my land.
I soo put forth my character through the entire game and challange you to say that they are despicable people. And further more even if they where, I never head you accuse the player of Carpathia of impaling and roasting babies in RL.
Edit: This is still a whine fest, damn, well I'll edit this once I get back from my apointment.
