What about your desktop CS? Anyway you can borrow the graphic card from the laptop or maybe upgrade your desktop one?
My desktop just crashes ones in a while when I'm playing civilization (and even once in a very while if I'm not playing civ)
I don't know why. My laptop has a fab graphics card (256 MB) that can't be the problem. Everything is on low.
I've checked my desktop, everything is cool, al vans are running. I don't understand why it's crashing.
I've already re-installed it about 3 times, but it keeps crashing once in a while
I just started installing civ on my laptop again.
I'm afraid it's not going to work since internet still works slow on my laptop (while everything is fine on my desktop) (except the crashing)
Maybe I should try to install my wireless card, but then I need to install my wireless modem as well........... *sigh*
Maybe I should just buy a new laptop.

LAPTOP: I guess you've checked that the local IP assigned to the laptop (or the desktop) is the same one being used for port forwarding? With my system I have to keep an eye on that as only one local IP can have the Civ ports forwarded to it from the adsl router; and some adsl routers also 'forget' settings (blackouts etc).
DESKTOP: I know you are saying it's graphics etc but I thought it worth d/checking ports too.
I use to have the problem you described with graphics when Civ4 first came out but that was with underpowered graphics card.
But the thing with me is I'm now playing on a base level MacBook laptop with its' standard graphics (Chipset Model: GMA 950) and a big widescreen monitor plugged in and it's absolutely brilliant - better than the old PC.I've got 2gb ram which is shared with the graphics.

What card u using on your desktop CS? Have you tried a dust free desktop?, worked with me! The little things sometimes help. By the way when u say crash just the game crushes or the whole pc reboots?
When i was overheating my PC the whole thing restarted everytime.
At first I was very irritated as we started the game and found no starting techs which influenced many strategies I suspect, but I adjusted and being a fan of the marathon speed I can hardly complain! So I see this as ultra-marathon I like it.
I also was irritated by the fact that we kept playing on whilst some players were sorting out connection issues etc. Did someone apologise to Wittlich? I don't have his handle. And pressing on without a heavy duty diplo player like Cyber was frustrating but he seemed OK about it.
I guess in the end if we as players haven't sorted out our tech issues then we pay a price, although in previous games we have always waited a good while for serious players to sort out their issues.
I was also very irritated by you know who... and I often agree with Arvcran...
BTW, what is everyone's age? I'm 55 on Oct 2.
So because I'm an irritable old fart I played a very bad start, cursing ozzy for deserts as I moved my starting settler around to find an optimum starting position for my cap. I ended up picking a worse start than my initial one. I now have 4 desert squares in my cap although I have more specials now. After exploring a bit I'm not complaining about my overall start. I just had a VERY irritable day with domestic issues as well...
Looking forward to the next session and I'll try and get the inspiration to write up a diplo post soon...

Since we moved away from the 6-7 player diplo games to these 10-12 player super diplo games, we've had to be less tolerant of connection issues. Obviously it was early in the game and not much in the way of serious diploing was going no, so the AI couldn't really mess up much, or even change any civics etc. There were no wars to fight, so continueing with the AI allowed us to zap through alot of the building stages before any interaction really starts. Overall only 2 people seemed to have recurring problems, and if they can get them sorted out, everything else seemed to work great. In the future we'll be able to stop more for the minor blips since we know them to just be minor blips and not true game killers.
My spot was fair and workable. I have some resources covered by jungle nearby that are somewhat annoying, but that's what Iron Working is for. Haven't seem all the world yet, but the people I've meet aren't too crowded, although some off to the east started a little bit close. I think I will do well in the environment I am in.
Can someone send me the save? I am interested to see how things developed. And curious to see where Deity moved his settler to. (you shoulda stayed where you were...)
