They have been called goody huts at least since Civ2. Keep up, man.

epic. I'd usually say marathon, thats mostly for sp, and I'd heard something about how poison a cities water supply in marathon can be worst than a nuke
- map size
Large. I know my current computer wouldn't handle Huge, but that might change
- no tech trading / no tech brokering / free tech trading
Just no tech brokering. I've never payed without tech trading, but I wouldn't care if you couldn't.
- no goodie huts (to make things totally fair)
I want goodie huts. Events too while where at it. I want unpredictably in a game.
- map type
Fractal is a good one. But I haven't tried big and small yet.
- extra rules
As a alternative to no tech tradeing, how about only among allies (ie vassals, defensive pacts, permant allicanes)? Don't know how enforceable that will be though...

no tech brokering seems to be an in-game setting that a sub or an AI will respect and will prevent wholesale trading. One usually gives to allies anyway.
Another person in this group does not have a rocket computer, so we just might not fill the empty civ slot. Having fewer civs might make it possible for them to play. We dont want to launch and find that they are too slow with a huge map and 11 civs. Ten or 9 civs are better. That leaves us with fewer civs to find subs for and will also make it easier to load.
Huge is fine with me, but Large is ok too if we have fewer civs. Map type is ok with me.
game speed: epic. Events would be awful on marathon.
map size: Huge
no tech brokering
goodie huts are ok. (barbies usually nail me at the first of the game. If there is a balanced resources, then we will find fewer folks sweating it out.
Oh on the big and small map one probably will NOT have any barbarians cause the land masses are probably smaller than the city halos. All of this will be revealed when we see the maps to pick from.
I await the final vote and dont in any way want to force a group of players to do something they dont want to do. By the same token I take the game seriously; will probably never miss a session no amtter what happens as long a I am happy with the settings up front.
So, if the majority think it is unfair or unwise to play a game that you research your techs on your own, I will bow out and wait. Hopefully, thre will be a OTW that accomodates researchers.
To be fair DD, No Tech Brokering-unlike Free Tech Trading-still makes researching techs yourself VERY IMPORTANT. After all, if you gain a tech through trade, then you are permanently locked out of trading that tech to other civs. If you have researched a tech that no-one else has, OTOH, then you are suddenly in a VERY powerful position-to trade or withhold as your heart contents!
I'm not trying to be an idiot or shut you off but there is really nothing anyone could say to change my mind. I've played this game at least 1000 times (you'd think I'd be better LOL) and understand all the arguments. So let's just say we agree to disagree, vote it out and see what happens.
You've played BtS 1000 times? (With No Tech Brokering)
That's impossible. I've tested the game and didn't even play that much games.
Are you really sure that you're familiar with the new BtS concept of "No Tech Brokering"?
And about not being able to change your mind, maybe you want to accept a compromis, just for the sake of playing with a group. We're going to be with 11 players in a game that will last for weeks. I hope that all players are willing to make a compromis now and then.
That's the soul of a diplogame, we do it together.
I honestly don't like it to play at Epic speed. But if the other players want to play at Epic speed, then Epic speed it is.
I really hope that you want to reconsider, since you absolutely are a reliable and nice player and I'd really love it if you would want to be in the game!

I personally I’m having a tough time understanding why DD would want so much no tech trading. You see I’m confused, nothing against you DD. I think that having no tech brokering will be good actually for some lesser skilled players, because the group would be some how equal in techs. If I have to be honest if I have to pick I would pick no tech trading, because I know I have a good chance of out teching others in this group, which would give me a great advantage. But I do not see why you would want no techs. But as CS we need to make compromises, so I’m doing that exactly, and it’s a diplo game, so I like the negotiation aspect of trading techs with some one. Please reconsider, I think you will enjoy the game greatly.
I am pretty easy - but got to say those maps look ...
well ... busy with too much water :-).
I'll go with what ever is set up - I may have slowness issues as my computrer / vid card may be pushing the limit. So I lean toward smaller maps if I can - I may run out of vid card memory (64mb).
Not sure how good a writer I will be in terms of the stories though.

By 1000 times I meant Civ IV not BtS.
I said earlier I am willing to compromise on EVERYTHING except that. I just dont enjoy a game with tech trading. No hard feeling if everyone wants tech trading or brokering. I just don't. And as has been pointed out, this is a game that will last a long time. The last thing I want to do is join a game that will last a long time and not enjoy it.
Well, in BtS there's a *new* game option that's in between tech trading and no tech trading. That's why we kept asking you, because you kept insisting that you already had played "No Tech Brokering" games, which you thus didn't, as we espected.
I'm sorry that you still don't want to try out that new option. It apparantly seems indeed to be the case that we are going for "No Tech Brokering", and since we're going to lose 2 players if we pick "No Tech Trading" that seems to be the best choise
I'm sad to see you not be in this game
Thanks for trying though!
If we're going to start a future "No Tech Trading" game we'll contact you for sure
