It changes the game when a person retires, once Dominae retired I went from rapidly losing cities to him to regaining the cities back with the AI running his civ. But it is not possible to defend against 36 units invading your territory in a single turn successfully unless you have totally sacrificed your economy and civ for the purpose of defence. Either way a win is not possible if someone is determined to attack with that sort of force and cities producing a huge amount of hammers so the units can keep coming relentlessly

It would be interesting to start a bit earlier one evening, so that we can progress into the Industrial era.

snoopy, my point about my MFG is that I would brought it to bear against you before you reached Grenadiers. I'm not going to predict the outcome of that, but it's definitely something that you would have slowed you down.

trev, my army was large but I certainly hadn't sacrificed my economy to build it; I was focused but not reckless. I dropped to 20% Research when I invaded, but that went up to 50-60% after the war.

The major difference between our empires was that your city spacing was very generous. Had you founded more cities you wouldn't have had much trouble dominating the game with the land you got. Myself, I started on a narrow peninsula and really had no option but to expand westward into you (there was endless Jungle to the South of me).

alcaras: much thanks for sticking it out with such a sub-par starting location. I'll pray to the RNG gods you get something more serviceable next time.

DeityDude: it's certainly not fun to get pounded on, but be aware that quitting prematurely throws the game out of balance for everyone else. The best revenge against an invader is to make their invasion a headache (well, second-best I guess: the best revenge would be invade them in turn!).

I suspect the thing that would have saved me from you was my GA. Right around the time I hit gunpowder (about 15 turns after you quit) I got my second great priest, who gave me my GA. I turned that into a ton of musketmen, putting out 2-3 a turn from my 5 main producing cities. Had I not gotten tired and quit myself I would have invaded dom-AI with just musketmen... I had enough that it would have worked.

I think the MFG was a bit off, also. My capital at the point you were talking about was producing maybe 7 hammers; that's because it was using nearly all cottage squares. Once I started producing musketeers I used the mines it has, and it was producing 1.2 turn musketeers in the GA... a bureaucracy assisted 70 something hammers a turn. I suspect that helped the mfg numbers a bit...<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.

You're comparing my non-GA MFG to your GA MFG...Originally posted by snoopy369
