    • The thing about restarting is that if we restart someone else may get a bad spot and in a group of 11 this is 100% sure to happen. So i don't think that restarting will fix the problem. In HOTW 7, 2 ppl started in tundra (CS being the worser case) the other one was me, but i got lucky due to having Rome as an Ai and took some good land from them.

Of course i prefer to restart in order all to be happy, but as CS said, let that person who wants a restart post a screenshot of his spot. Or ppl will get greedy and will start to abuse this option.

      • I'm generally just proposing we restart if we have starting locations very close to each other. I'm less concerned about the quality of one's land, though I'd be sympathetic if someone has really, really bad land. But yea, we'd need proof and it'd have to be really bad.

Otherwise I'm just thinking of if people are right next to each other.

        • Doesnt being close t o another mean more oppurtunitys for Diplo stuff.

I know i not involved in any games so my opinion not necessarily of high importance, but as one of the original HOTWers i think many of our starts have been close togethr and whilst not very good for a winning oppurtunity, it certainly built some great posts and interaction

          • No Raz, in HOTW2 no one was as close as in some of these games. It'd be like you starting in Israel and another player starting in Iraq. When capitols overlap it is just too fricken close.

            • I think being too close to each other is the only reason for possible restarts. And with too close I mean capitals within 7 tiles from each other AND other civs on the other possible expansion side.

I wouldn't have wanted to restart HOTW7 because of my tundra start. It sucked though that Egypt was blocking my possible expansion out of the Tundra.
Don't think that I would have wanted a restart though.

There's always the possibility that one of us creates 5 maps in advance and posts them all here.
Then all players can look at all these maps and check their starting positions and post here if there are maps out of the 5 that really are a no-go for them. (and post screenshots why)

Then we start with the map with which no one has objectsions. It's just like starting at the gametime, but then without losing time at the first session. We all don't look at each others starts.

I'll post some maps here, just to see what you guys think.

              • I'm making a few maps with this civ list:

                1. Nolan = Egypt, Ramesses II (Indus, Spiritual)
                2. kbarrett = India, Ghandi (Philosophic, Spiritual)
                3. Levi = Zulu, Shaka (Aggressive, Organized)
                4. Kuno = Korea, Wang Kong (Financial, Protective)
                5. CS = Incas, Huayna Capac (Indus, Financial)
                6. Toni = Germany, Bismarck (Indus, Expansive)
                7. Deity = Ottoman, Mehmed II (Expansive, Organized)
                8. Ozzy = England, Elizabeth I (Philosophic, Financial)
                9. Mike = Mali, Mansa Munsa (Financial, Spiritual)
                10. Beta = (either Hannibal or Roosevelt)
                11. dacole = (either Hannibal or Roosevelt)

I made a choise for Beta and Dacole, there weren't much options left over anyway. IF they really don't want one of these choises I can make new maps, but I guess that it doesn't matter that much.

                • 5 maps:

                  1. Map Option 1

                  2. Map Option 2

                  3. Map Option 3

                  4. Map Option 4

                  5. Map Option 5

These are 5 out of the 6 maps I created. I replaced the 3rd map since that was really the worst position ever for me. (small strip of tundra, blocked by ocean, one way out, blocked by Wang Kong, thus both tundra, no place and overlapping civs)

If everybody takes a look at these maps and post if you have objections against any of these 5 maps, if you have, post why.

ONLY open with your own civ, don't look at the civs of others. ONLY play max 3 turns, don't open goody huts.

Hmmm, so far I've looked at Option 1 which is fine except that the city is built.

We really should all get together early on the day and devote up to an hour getting it right for all...

                      • I can live with the city starting locations in all except for Oprtion 1.

I didn't move the warrior - not sure we should do this?

overlapping capitals is very bad , but in the HOTW2 my capital was trapped between the Mali, Indians and Europeans. So not quite overlappping but certainly hemmed in.

The advantage of Civ4 though over civ2 is that if someone is that close, then Culture can push them back too.

                          • Hmmm, the AI did already build the city of you guys
                            That does suck

Is there any way to prevent that from happening?

                            • I can go with any of the saves. Though I seem to be close to Wang Kuno in save 5. Not overlapping, but after moving 3 turns I encountered their warrior.
