  • New Beginings-DIPLO

    Hi all,

Planning a DIPLO style game for fun. Read all the DIPLO FAQ threads for some ideas on what the style is. But basically it is more about the posting and ROle PLAYING here on poly than it is about winning the game.

If you are an avid poster and make up some great stories to go with your game then please post here and join in.

Looking to play Sunday mornings Australian time (GMT +10) every week till the game conluded. Hopefully a 3-4 hour session.

Post your name, Civ wanted, leader , and any other suggestions

Ok, my suggestions are same ones I had for HOTW7:

    Ulimited TT.

In-game vics will end the game, with an optional outside voting victory if you guys want it.

I suggest we only reveal info in post that all civs can know. Storytelling is fine, but specific details may spoil the fun.

I recommend using PitBoss with additional turns during the week. We could at least give it a try and then scrap the idea if it doesn't work, with no harm done.

I can't say I'm the best storyteller, but I am good at role-playing and diplomacy from games like Dungeons and Dragons.

I'm kind of attached to Korea or Inca, but for a diplogame I might try something new. I'll get back to you on that.

      good suggestions.

I am for Full Tech trading too (TT)

Havent got any experience with PITBOSS so not sure how it works.

As it is a DIPLO game, i would prefre no Space Victory. I think that directs peoples research int oonly one direction , limiting the Role paly around characters.

I am for as many palyers as we cna and we suit the Map size to suit the player numbers. lots of room to expand into , but close enough to get quick contacts.

i wil ltake any civ as i dont knwo which ones are better.

How will this differ from a regular diplogame?

Ras, I know you have complaints that you don't think you're good enough for the gamind aspect of diplogames, but that's half the fun right there. I just want to let you know that you shouldn't give up on the diplogames, because they were made so that if one person should fall behind too much, others react and assist that person, just like in real life.

However, explain in further detail how this is different than diplogames (besides emphasis on the diplo), and I might be interested.

I thought this would be a regular diplo game. However, that doesn't automatically make it a regular HOTW game.

            Newb Farm Builder Game:

            * No War Allowed

            * Only 1 unit per city

            * No Barbarians

            * Talk ceaselessly about how "awesome" your civ is.

            * Stop playing after month because no one knows how to really play.

If you want to play a game like that, I believe that's what HOTW 7 is heading towards, Frank.

we will ignore the hecklers from the stalls.

This game will be different from HOTW7 in that

                1. It wont have the creme de le creme of the civ players.
                2. It will be focused on the role play.
                3. It will be about in game Diplo style not necessarily about who is the better civ player.

Hopefully some new people will enter this one and may learn something and go onto play in HOTW8.

I think this is a good idea Raz.

The 'good' players are on another wavelength but good diplo players like you Raz can really have some fun here.

I encourage this game. We all might learn something.

I agree with Ras and Deity. I would also like to add that diplomacy is a Civ skill in and of itself and may indeed decide the game, as it should! More importantly, it is a skill that has direct, real-life applications. And if you are already good at diplomacy, you can easily make up for your lack of knowledge of game mechanics. I believe, IMHO that this is what Sid Meier had in mind in order to make his game more accessible to people from all walks of life, not just gamers. You can walk into a diplogame as your very first game and still do well. Let's strengthen those silver tongues, ladies and gents!

Btw, I know this is off topic, but do you also want to start a PBEM game, Ras? I know I asked you in the main diplogames thread.

Contact me via MSN, mate. I don't wanna disrespect you by tying up this thread talking about another game. I added you as a buddy.

If ever a Diplo game starts on Pitboss and does not try to get played in regular weekend sessions, i will be happy to join. I'm itching for MP games that are more political.

Or even if it just starts off with an initial "power session" and then goes to the standard Pitboss, 1 turn per day styles, i'd be excited for it.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for that.
