I conceed to Dominae... I shouldn't have attacked Master Dave like that... oh well.

Game 2 was more fun for me, Snotty had pledged his allegiance to me for sparing his CIV in it's infancy so it was just him, Wang (AI) and me. We would've just turtled/wonder whored the whole game.

Everything was rolling for me that first game- I had room to grow, peace with Dominae and a nice start with a few early wonders. Too bad I was a bonehead and didn't notice that it was set to continents instead of pangea.
The second game I really didn't have much of a chance. I had Gibsie boxing me in from the West, Dominae to the North East and Metaliturtle to the East, with room for only three decent cities. My early catapult rush on Gibsie fell short, and wore into a stalemate until Metaliturtle and Dominae both declared war from the East. No way I could fight both of those guys with three cities and hardly any tech... especially after eight catapults and an axeman failed to kill a single unit in a metaliturtle city with one praet an axeman and a warrior!!!
"Cunnilingus and Psychiatry have brought us to this..."
I actually had a rare bout of luck (skill?!) when MD attacked me that time; I hadn't upgraded one of the axemen in my city, and after throwing a couple of units to soften up my garrison, it meant he was up to 5 EXP and so I could upgrade him twice more and so give him back 3/4 of his health. Bad luck matey!
fun thing was that warrior got a promotion from your attack
I nearly shat myself when I saw all those catapults.
Also Dom declared on me as soon as you left... since my soft underbelly was exposed.

In the first one I was stuck on a peninsula just wide enough for my capital. I saw that the body of the continent was quite large so I decided to build the Parthenon and hope to grab a lot of land with Great Artists. MasterDave and I agreed not to attack each other, but when he started expanding in my direction I had to "request" he stop that or else (haha). His empire seemed to be doing well so I gambled he would comply rather than have to worry about me. I was not really negotiating in good faith because all along I was planning to to culture bomb him with my artists, but luckily the game ended before I had to deal with the diplomatic fallout.
In the second game I had a pretty nice cap site for Wonder-whoring (Stone and a bunch of Hills and Forest), so I figured I should try it with this group at least once. I went for Pyramids first, followed by the Great Wall; both were completed before I founded my second city. MasterDave and Metaliturtle saw an opportunity to harass me when their Warriors arrived at my borders at the same time, but they did not coordinate very well and I was able to repel them. I'm pretty glad Metaliturtle went after the AI instead of me with his Praetorians: although I had Machinery already with the help of a Great Engineer, my Iron took a while to hook up so I would have been defending with only Chariots for 5 or so turns.
Metaliturtule took forever to take out the AI, so in the meantime I just build cities and spread my Religion to all his and the AI's cities. So I knew exactly what was "going on" the whole time. With the AI gone, I knew he would be looking for another target, and when he offered to unite against MasterDave it was like a dream come true (a Civ dream, at least). I switched to Police State to start some serious military buildup, while Metaliturtle plowed forward. MasterDave's Catapults took care of the initial attack rather well, but he did get very unlucky with his counterattack. From my perspective it did not really matter, as I had only lost 4 units so far (2 Crossbowmen, 2 Catapults) and so my stacks would easily take out MasterDave, with some spare troops to defend against possible treachery from Metaliturtle. When MasterDave conceded it was a no-brainer to turn on my ally, although I did give him fair enough warning (over 3 turns). Then someone went OOS and we quit.
Metaliturtle, watching your offensive against the AI, I simply must offer a piece of advice: when trying to take cities, it's almost always better to mass your troops for one big attack, than attack every turn as your troops arrive on the scene. Praetorians may have good odds versus Archers in cities, but you should still avoid a war of attrition whenever possible. Against human players who know to put Medics in their big stacks, you will never get anywhere without overwhelming point strength. Just a suggestion!
Thanks for the games everyone.

I agree with everything Dom, 'cept YOU went OOS on us
I was impatient because Ragnar kept talking to me slowing my turntimer down a lot.

first game got caught with my pants down by metaliturtle early on, as I started with a scout and didnt build a warrior as my first unit. I begged him to let me live as his vassel as I had got husbandry, horseback riding and writing out a trio of early huts. At the end of the game I was less than 50 turns away from getting a caraval to the other coast
2nd game i was blocked in by gibsie and I was weak in MFG and power. As I had marble I built the parthenon to go with my greek phi trait and culture bombed a third city to grab the last land before Gibsie nicked it. I still had space to expand in that area, and could make the most of my coast with the colossus. I got a further artist, engineer and 2 scientists . By the end of the game I had civil service, machinery, was running pacifism and researching eduction but was being attacked by the shaka ai and I didnt have a strong miltary
Metaliturtle just got a new computer... maybe in 2 weeks I'll be available to play.
