        • The end of the tale...

"... and with that Franco died, and Spain was finally free again, to determine her own destiny." the old man said, he looked down to find his grandchildren asleep on the floor.

"Papa!" a voice yelled from a distant room "Come quick, you can see it!" the old man slowly rose from his chair and grabbed his cane "I'm coming Marisol, I'm coming." he said, slowly walking towards the back room.

"Wow, its amazing, you'd better hurry papa!" the woman said, her father barely making it into the room "Aww, you've missed it, let's go outside maybe we can see it."

She pulled open the sliding glass window and walked upon the balcony, the old man gazed at the Indian ship "it is amazing." he said to himself...

Two days later, north of Madrid...

"Here is where we found the helmets, one of them was cracked in half, looked like an axe-wound to the head." Pedro said "It sure is cold up here."

"Yeah, it looks like I've found something here." his assistant said, Pedro was the head archeologist for the University of Madrid, mere weeks ago old relics of ancient Spain and more specifically the old kingdom of Castille were discovered. "It looks like a tablet. I can't make out the words though."

"Its ancient Spanish, before the Celtic and Andalusian influenced it, let me see." Pedro said, wiping some of the snow from it, "Heh, that's funny."

"Well what does it say Professor?" the assistant asked.

"It says" Pedro began "BAINOR SHALL RETURN"

          • Just a quick congrats to ozzy and allies!

            A job well done.

I'll have more to say later when I get some time to write - both positive and critical (of course!!)

But I'd have to say this is the best and most satisfying Civ game EVER.

I start out every game wanting it to be like this one - long term mix of everything, everyone has a role and SS victory is the best outcome for diplos which is WHY this game finished properly.

            • Hypothetical Future Post...

Jose Maria Aznar was the first Prime Minister of Spain following the collapse of the fascist Falange regime of Francisco Franco. His government had undergone great changes from that of the Falangist government; namely the development of the Three Gorges Dam which increased the production capability of Spain beyond even Aznar's own imagination, they had established the Spanish National Space Administration (ANEE in Spanish), as well as an expensive upgrade of the entire Spanish military. Despite these achievements Aznar, seen to the left holding a press conference with Spanish astronaut Pedro Duque, realized that without Spain's help China would not be able to send their ship to Alpha Centauri first, and establish a safe colony for both Chinese and Spanish astronauts. Thus his plot; he would bomb the production of the Cockpit in Lahore, and then utilize false intelligence to the UN in order to convince them that the English were behind the attack. He realized it was a dangerous move, but at the same time the Secretary General of the UN was a Spaniard, and he felt that he could use this to his advantage. Besides that many other things occured in the future of Spanish history...

              The Second German-American War

In 1752 the Americans, under the leadership of President George W. Bush decided that Germany must pay. Prior to this date, the Germans had occupied much of what the Americans called "the French state," this portion of land encompassed all of the former French cities, but it is difficult to call the territory a proper state as Germany had controlled the land surrounding the cities of Lyons and Orleans since the time they were annexed by America. Regardless, President Bush was determined to end this and move American terrirory into all of the former French Kingdom. Thus he announced that he would invade Germany, quickly taking the ethnic-German city of Hamburg to the chagrin of UN Secretary General Javier Solana who was busy dealing with the issues surrounding the capture of a Chinese spy in Madras. Solana did make a minor statement calling for an international peacekeeping force; "The United Nations condemns the American assault on Germany, this is a clear case of territorial ambition, and a war of conquest should not be tolerated, I urge all UN member states to act quickly to stop this American invasion of German territory." It was difficult to get much support, however, as Indian, Russian and English forces amassed along the Russian-Chinese border in preparation for a response to the attempted bombing in Madras. Spanish forces were quickly dispatched to the border, hoping to halt the attack on China in an effort to prevent the continued shelling of German cities in the south. Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar asked the UN to send an international force to police the Americans, however the Indians and Russians rejected it citing that the Spanish had "come under the sway of China; a terrorist state." Therefore Aznar comissioned a Spanish mission to America in order to prevent the war, to this Prime Minister Harold Wilson of England joined the war in favor of Germany, some believed it was due to guilt over the failure to help them in the first German-American war. America was becoming quickly outnumbered, and Spain found it difficult to protect both sides with all-out war going on. American forces continued to blitz Germany, reaching as far as Berlin before Secretary General Javier Solana called for a cease-fire, to which the Americans accepted demanding German territories in Concordia and the islands to the south; the Germans accepted but the English continue to skirmish with the Americans to this day in and around the southern isles.

Pedro Duque Lands on the Moon

Pedro Duque had the honor of being the fourth man to walk on the moon as the Spanish Apollo Program was founded in 1754. Duque earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 1720. Duque underwent training in both China and India. His first spaceflight was as a mission specialist aboard space shuttle mission STS-95, during which Duque supervisied IASA experimental modules. In October 1733, he's now teaching at the UPM, in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Aeronáuticos. While this came far after the Indians sent a colony-ship to Alpha Centauri, Duque's trip to the moon served as an important point in Spanish history; they had finally begun to traverse the stars after centuries of gazing at them. Following Duque's mission to the moon Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar promised that Spain would join India (and at this point England and China) in colonizing Alpha Centauri; "Spain is on the verge of joining our allies the Chinese in Alpha Centauri, to spread our deep and beautiful culture to distant stars beyond Terra's atmosphere." Many in Spain believed that the mission to Alpha Centauri would be costly and worthless, which lead up to the elections of 1759, which again put the Prime Minister against Socialist leader Juan Luis Zapatero.

              The Election of 1759

For decades Aznar and Zapatero had been bitter political rivals; there were three elections in which the two had been the top candidates for Prime Minister, and each time Aznar's People's Alliance party won over Parliament. Lately however things had changed; Aznar had comissioned soldiers to the war in the south, a very unpopular move in Spain, and had also sent forces to guard the Chinese border against an Indian, Russian, and English invasion, again another unpopular move in Spain. Zapatero realized the time was right to make a move and worked hard to establish a coalition in Parliament that would vote Aznar from office. This would have been a difficult feat to accomplish if Zapatero did not discover that Aznar was the one behind the Lahore bombing back in 1715; he realized this after the Chinese spy was caught and England reassured Terra that they had nothing to do with the bombing in Lahore, remember Zapatero was Spain's representative to the UN and underwent his own personal investigation of the matter in which he called upon Spanish intelligence to give him information. He realized quickly that everything they told him was a lie, and even admitted openly that he didn't trust Aznar after speaking with him in Toledo. Zapatero went to Parliament, demanding that all of the classified documents surrounding the Lahore investigation be made public, which won by a landslide, he then compared the evidence to Indian, Russian, and even English intelligence to prove that Aznar was really the mastermind behind the attack at Lahore, despite English contentions that it was indeed China. Aznar could do nothing about it and was forced to apologize before the UN and face a criminal trial in Spain, in which he was convicted of treason and imprisoned for life. He was also turned over to UN authorities where he was ceremoniously impeached (for having lied to the UN about his intelligence) and sentenced to life in prison in Madras following his sentence in Spain. With his biggest political rival out of the picture Zapatero prepared for what he thought would be an easy election, but it wasn't. Many people in Spain saw Aznar and Zapatero as children of the Falange, it was true that Aznar's People's Alliance party and Zapatero's Socialist party were both once part of the Falange, and the population of Spain saw the bombing of Lahore as a vestige of Falangist ideology; Spain first, all other's last. And many took to the cause of Liberalist Adolfo Suarez Gonzalez, who promised to promote peace through action. He took a page from the book of the Incans and promised to maintain only a defensive army, he even promised to pay indemnities to the Indians for the attack on Lahore and spearhead an effort to establish an international Space station. Despite this, Falangist candidates were stil more popular in Spain and Zapatero won the Prime Ministry by only one vote. Thus it became Zapatero's job to lead Spain into a new future...

My original suspicions were on Frank, but then Capos constant posting and questioning of Deitys pictures mad eit pretty obvios who was to blame.

Pity it didnt lead to Nuke War, that would have been more Diplo style than a SS launch.

                    • We are trying to refine diplostyle, so we don't always end in some huge war that pisses everyone off and makes everyone quit. So hopefully this is the new diplostyle ending. Personally I think this is the best game I've ever been a part of.

                      • Ozzy, I think the only thing between you and partial nuclear destruction was the massive pile of failed diplo games that Capo and I have both experienced. If any other set of people had their fingers on the button, I bet this game would have ended with a bang too.

So just because it worked well this time doesn't mean it will if some green troops come along.

                        • The only option i never paly in my single palyer games is SS. I hate that ending. I prefer world domination or cultural victory.

If diplo games are all to end in SS then i guess my diplo days may be over.
