    Incan Sailors Circumnavigate Globe!
Cuzco, Incan Empire - Incan sailors have circled the globe proving once and for all that the world was indeed round (something that had been proven by Indian scientists centuries ago). This event marks the next in a long line of Incan accomplishments, including the revamping of the Incan military as well as the construction of the Ankgor Wat temple in Ollantaytambo. The latest trend is supposedly a result of the Great World War in which a collection of Russian and Spanish soldiers actually stayed within the Inca Empire following the peace treaty, and the new leadership has attributed its recent success to these new Incans. "There is no proof that this is the case" says General Mendoza of Spain "The Incan leadership makes this claim, but I would suggest that it is a political move rather than an historic fact." Regardless; the new era of peace and prosperity within the Incan Empire is a very real thing. The most likely reason for its success could be its newfound use of Confucian law. The idea of a round Terra, and the prospect of another continent have piqued the interest of many Spanish citizens, who have taken it upon themselves to found the city of Murcia on the western coast of Spain (in Leon). Queen Isabella has made it quite public that she plans some sort of expedition in the near future; "I have sent General De Soto on a peaceful exploration mission throughout the entire continent, and upon his return we will begin discussing maritime exploration."

Isabella Ushers in a "Spanish Generation of Peace."
Madrid - Queen Isabella de Castilla has called for the Spanish Generation of Peace to prevail in Spain following a bloody civil war, a war against the barbarian Khazars, and finally a Great World War. These three events resulted in the death of three Kings and a horrible debt that Spain is just starting to come out of. "While I may have been critical of her predecessor, King Sancho Diaz, the latest moves by the Queen have been amazingly successful; she has crushed the debt, she has finished the roads, she has defeated the Khazars - she has proven to be quite the adept Monarch" said Count/Duke Gaspar Guzman de Olivares, who had been an opponent of the royal family. She has made a comitment to peace in-line with the concept of French pacifism; the movement started following the failure of French forces to defend the American city of Boston during the Great World War. This sees the search for knowledge and understanding as superior to military success and war. In her latest move Isabella has promised to end the debt once and for all, claiming that her recent (and successful) solution was only temporary, and she wanted to usher in "real change to our economy." The trend towards peaceful, knowledge-based, rule has seen success in India as well under the rule of Ashoka, who has converted to Confucianism and ushered a new Confucian era into effect in India.

Khazar Camp Razed by Spanish Forces!
Northern Territories - Spanish forces under the command of General Hernan Cortez finally destroyed the barbarian camp of Khazar that had been responsible for attacks against Spanish settlements to the north and west of Spain. "Our forces were quite effective against the barbarian army" General Mendoza said "Cortez did a great job destroying the camp, and then whiping out the last vestiges of these vermin once and for all." The assault on the city, which was burned to the ground, and whose inhabitants were slaughtered mercilessly, came just as Spanish borders expanded and roads to Spanish frontier towns were completed, connecting them with the capital Madrid.

The Heroic Epic "El Cid, El Campeador, y El Rey" Finished in Madrid!
Madrid - A work comissioned by King Sancho Diaz has finally been completed. A massive thousand page poem describing the rise of King Rodrigo Diaz, has been finished by a team of Spanish poets assembled by King Sancho Diaz; "I knew El Cid quite well" said former Foreign Minister Bartolo Calderon de Cordoba "And I have read much of the poem, it does a great justice to a great and peaceful Monarch... he would have loved it." The poem describes how El Cid was orphaned by a battle close to the village of Vivar (located south of Seville), when his father fell to Andalusian troops in a war begun by Tyrant Bainor de Castilla (who also happens to be Queen Isabella's grandfather). El Cid went on to join the movement against Bainor, and eventually defeated King Carlos Dodabella (disowned father of King Sancho) in the battle of Madrid. El Cid went on to become King of Leon and Aragon when he married Princess Elena of Aragon, it was after her death during childbirth and El Cid's subsequent suicide, King Sancho Diaz assumed the throne. Many are questioning the decision to omit the end of El Cid's life from the work, but one poet who worked on the epic said the team felt it would be in "bad taste."

    Murcia Founded in Leon.
Murcia - The city of Murcia has been founded as part of Isabella's planned maritime exploration. "When news of a new continent came there was no other option" said on settler "Our purpose here is solely to establish missions to the new continent, it is a very exciting time." The Queen has decreed that half of the able-bodied workforce of Spain (and all of her Incan slaves) will be moved to Murcia to help chop down the great forests in order to construct the fleet. An admiral has not yet been determined, as Spain has no navy, but has called for all merchants who operate ships to come to the city of Madrid to be interviewed.

    "Viking" Ships Sunk Near Yaroslav'l
Yaroslav'l, Russia - The birthplace of Christianity experienced a great naval battle off the coastline as the Indian navy pounded what has been described as a "Viking" fleet of warships. "They were headed this way, I am sure" said Russian citizen Vasily Kierko "But by the hand of the lord the Indian fleet came to our rescue." Amid news of a new continent, rumors ran thick that the "Viking" ship may have come from the new continent and may be evidence of far-flung empires there. At this point that is all speculation; "The best explaination is that these ships were pirates, potentially attempting to sack the city of Yarslov'l in order to steal from its Christian churches, which tend to be ornate" Foreign Minister Salvador Duarte de Sevilla explained.

Continental Exploration Achieves Open Borders with France, Germany and America!
Robington, America - Under the command of General De Soto (who Isabella has given diplomatic powers to) a Spanish exploratory force has finally mapped out the nations of France, Germany and America; but it wasn't easy. "Obviously France, Germany and America held us in a low regard" said General De Soto "so it was important for us to be accomodating, it was apparent their countries needed some help so we offered technology in exchange for passage." While the move recieved some criticism in Madrid, De Soto promises that the countries pose no threat to Spain what-so-ever. "These countries are quite small, it is no wonder they felt threatened by powerhouses like India and Russia." The trip brought the soldiers down the western coast of India (which launched their own trip to Spain during the same period of time), they then toured France, Germany and America finally returning to India in time to celebrate the battles of Boston and Madras. Their trip then took them into Russia, where they spent some time. "The visit to Russia was the best part of the trip" said General De Soto, who converted to Christianity while there, "I had some private discussions with the Russian leadership, and we came to some meaningful conclusions." While in Russia the troops toured the city of Novogrod, and payed homage to the fallen Russian, Incan, and English troops who fought for it during the War.

Islam Takes Hold in Sri Nikovaleavsky!
Sri Nikovaleavsky, Russia - A new faith has emerged in the Russian Empire, this time it's Islam. The religion was founded by a man named Mohammed, who was by all accounts either a Jew or Christian, because Islam is an extention of the two faiths. They see Mohammed as the last in a long line of prophets (which include Abraham, and Jesus), and as a seal he speaks for God, or Allah. No news yet on how Russian Tsar Peter will respond to this new faith, but we can be sure it won't lead to another World War... well, we can hope at least.

    To Be A Peasant!
    By Ferdinand de Aragon

Ferdinand de Aragon is the eldest son of Queen Isabella de Castilla and King Sancho Diaz de Aragon. He is the Duke of Aragon, and is next in line for the throne.

Oh to be a peasant! Well, not literally, but in the sense that freedom is wasted on the peasantry. You see I live life like cattle, I am herded with the other cattle (or in this case nobles) and forced to do the bidding of the master. Whatever she likes, she gets. Its unquestioned. And much like cattle my future is set into stone; now I won't be a delicious steak one day, but I will be King. I have to be King, it doesn't matter that I'd rather write poetry, or paint, or perform in the plays in Barcelona or Seville. That doesn't matter. People believe that being King is so great, and wonderful, but I've seen what happens to the King. My father died in battle, defending Spain. My mother was trapped in an estate for her entire life, and quite frankly it has driven her mad! Because of some ridiculous law, written thousands of years ago, I must assume the throne, for it is my "rightful" place. Afterwards I will be married to some woman I don't know from some country I'm sure I'd hate if I visited just to assure what's "best for Spain." It's rubbish! And what a time for me to live in! Great works of art have been created in the German city of Hamburg, I'm sure you've never heard of it because the royalty here would have you think of these people as swine, as Jewish filth, but the great works by Thepsis are said to be amazing. The new Epic of El Cid has been finished, there are new theatres everywhere, and where must I be? I can't go to Hamburg, they'd never allow that, no I must stay in the palace and read about treaties, and law, and I must train to fight, I must study military planning, and everything else royal and proper. Oh to be a peasant! You have such freedom, you have no idea, I yearn to be like you!

    • Majesty, it is I, Emperor Tang Zhaozong, preparing our marriage agreement between our great Kingdoms, that Princess Geria, my favorite daughter, sends to you, her betrothed, her favorite poem.

Indeed, she is a rare one, quiet, observant, a delightful musician and scholar. I reluctantly agree to this agreement, for her song, her demure demeanor, have entertained us these past years. You shall not have her just yet, not until her education in astronomy and the lute are complete.

Until then you must be content with the poem she sends to you:

Looking at the Moon and Thinking of One Far Away by Zhang Jiuling
The moon, grown full now over the sea,
      Brightening the whole of heaven,
      Brings to separated hearts
      The long thoughtfulness of night....
It is no darker though I blow out my candle.
It is no warmer though I put on my coat.
So I leave my message with the moon
And turn to my bed, hoping for dreams.

Indeed, I send you this painting from her own hand. Today there came an old Lama with his prayer beads, who sat at court meditating. It was just a few minutes and he was caught by a few brush strokes. Ah.. Yes... My little plum blossom.........

      • 1025 a.d.

Queen Isabella's reign was more than anyone in the royal court could have expected. The demise of Sancho Diaz saw a faint glimmer of hope for his critics, such as Gaspar Guzman de Olivares, however bright this glimmer tried to become, however, it couldn't stand to the great light that was Isabella. Under her rule Spain's territories increased, the network of roads was finally completed in amazing time, new mines, libraries, markets, and places of worship were built under the Queen's leadership and all of this was accomplished while getting the Empire out of a debt began by King Sancho. Olivares soon realized that his fortunes did not lie in becoming Isabella's opponent, he realized that he must support her or lose the support of the people. Isabella called for a grand meeting of her closest advisors, her military leadership, and a select few noblemen for a meeting in Madrid. The purpose of the meeting was two-fold; firstly they would discuss the day to day issues of Spain, and secondly to announce that her daughter Isabella II would be betrothed, and that her eldest son Ferdinand would begin his training to become King of Spain, albeit reluctantly. Isabella was quite confident that she could whip the boy into shape...

        Madrid, House of Castilla...

"Mother, this is tedious!" Ferdinand bellowed as he leaned back in his chair. It had been ten hours since they began their studies, and Ferdinand hadn't left the room since then save for eating and a couple bathroom breaks.

"Ferdinand, I understand, but it is a golden opportunity for you, you musn't balk at it." she said pushing the history book closer to him "This is not merely history, but a story of your own family Ferdinand. You must learn from the mistakes of our past, learn from the successes."

"Mother, honestly, in Barcelona right now there is a play based on this stuff, its about El Cid! Isn't that the same as this? I insist we see it."

"Ferdinand, please, you know that is sensationalized, and it doesn't tell you the backstory. Hurry, you know we have a meeting with General Pizarro soon!" Isabella ordered.

"Ugh, I don't want to meet with General Pizarro, I don't want to be King!" he said, tossing the book to the floor.

"You pick that up this instant Ferdinand!" Isabella replied, holding her hand up to stop their slave from doing it.

"No, I refuse." he said, "Make Carlos the King, I don't want to be the King."

"Yes, I know, I read your little article in the paper. You will be punished for that, it makes us look weak. It makes you look weak. Now pick up that damned book before you regret it. My patience is wearing thin with you Ferdinand." she said, he knew she was serious, so he picked the book up and put it back on the table.

"There, mother, this isn't right." he said softly.

"It must be done Ferdinand, you have a proud spirit, you will make a good King one day, you've just got to learn your lot in life. You are the eldest son of a great King, you must assume the throne. Your brother will be a great General and your sister will wed a grand noblemen. You are to be King, please Ferdinand, I don't want to treat you badly, but I was neglected by my father and I refuse to let the same thing happen to you now. So please, just return to your studies. When you are King you will have all the time in the world to read your stories, and watch your plays."

        "I understand mother..."

        Hours Later, in the Citadel...

The big meeting in Madrid was mere days away, and Isabella had requested General Pizarro to update her on the latest news from the military. You see, since the imprisonment of Bartolo Calderon de Cordoba by King Sancho, the monarchy has taken to military advisory rather than civilian as of late. With General Cortez out finishing up the campaign in the north, and General Mendoza governing Toledo, and General De Soto still traveling from Russia it left General Pizarro to go over the latest news with Isabella. Pizarro was a veteran of the battles of Novogrod, and was subsequently left for dead following the English victory. He traveled, alone, back towards Spain eventually meeting up with General Mendoza en-route. Pizarro had been briefed the week before about De Soto's travels throughout the continent, including the cities of Delhi, Robington, Paris, Madras, Berlin, and Novogrod; where General De Soto had a sit-down meeting with numerous Russian officials, it was the details of this meeting that Isabella intended to discover.

The Queen had forced her son Ferdinand to stand by her during the discussion with Pizarro, she hoped that if he saw the "acting" she had to do it may pique some interest in her son, who had taken to the arts rather than politics; "Thank you for joining us this evening General Pizarro, I hope you excuse me for being blunt but I have many pressing affairs of state to attend to, as you know our meeting is coming up in a few days and I must be fully updated on all of the information in Spain and abroad."

"I understand our higness." the General said, taking off his hat. May I please sit?"

"By all means General." the Queen replied, with a smile.

"I have to say, young Ferdinand is looking quite dashing, no?" the General said as he took his seat.

"Yes, he has become quite the man." the Queen said, turning to her son "He is sitting in on our discussion so he may learn the ways of being a Monarch, he will fill his father's shoes one day."

Ferdinand didn't say a word, "Well, Sancho was a great man." the General said, breaking the akward silence.

"On to the living" the Queen responded "De Soto tells me that he has some troubling information from the south, regarding the Germans?"

"Yes your majesty, the Germans have taken on an ill-will towards their former allies. Apparently they didn't appreciate the pacificst sentiments they displayed during the end of the war. Whatever the reason King Adolphe has split the Kingdom among his four sons, this could have something to do with it. Perhaps they feel their personal holdings aren't enough and wish to add French lands to the Kingdom."

"How reliable is this information?" the Queen asked.

"Quite, most of it comes from the mouth of the Germans themselves. I don't know if they are actually going to invade France though, that much isn't clear, and it may be unlikely to occur especially if the Americans support the French. Your highness, I must relay to you the reality of the situation over there; they have very small nations, they are dwarfed by our Empire. In a situation like that tension is highly likely and normal, I doubt this will come to blows." the General explained.

The queen nodded "Well, I was told in your letter that De Soto had some troubling news, that news doesn't seem so troubling."

"Well on its face it does not, however the Germans are said to have amassed a large army, and the Russians report that secret diplomatic transmissions between England and Germany have been intercepted, its difficult to read such a barbaric language, but apparently the Germans have hinted towards an invasion of France, one we can be sure the English will support." Pizarro said.

"How much of this can be trusted?" Prince Ferdinand asked, the Queen was quite surprised.

"Well, these were top Russian officials, but again, it was speculation. The content of the messages referred to some type of territory exchange, or movement of borders of some type." Pizarro explained.

"Yes, but nothing specificly military or aggressive?" the Prince continued.

"No my lord, nothing of the sort. France wasn't even mentioned, but the Russians are quite sure the two situations are closely related."

"Anything else General?" the Queen asked "I have to speak with that wretch Gaspar Guzman de Olivares before the night ends."

"Ah yes, the Inca my lady, they are growing increasingly stronger by the day. Your majesty would be wise to keep an eye on them." the Genral said as he rose from his chair.

"Duly noted General, you have a nice evening and do me a favor and call General Mendoza to Madrid for me. He is being relieved of his duties in Toledo. I have a special mission for him..."
"Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

          • Overrabbi Jakob looks up from his desk, eyeing his personal advisor who has just brought him news from the Spanish court. Are you sure of this? Russia intercepted communications with the English? This is a most grave matter. Of course they got nothing that was not common knowledge among wise men already, but our advantage that Russia rarely listens to wise men is of course gone. No matter, they would have figured it out sooner or later, or India would have explained it to them.

And the crown of Spain has taken an interest in our region? Most intrigueing. Dieter, pen the following letter as I dictate, and have it sent by courier to the Spanish court.

To the Most Beautiful and Enlightened Ruler, Isabella of Spain.

We wish to open for further contact between our two nations. The Great War of the past has unnecessarily and unfortunately marred our relationship somewhat, but we wish to correct this most negative of situations.

We have been in contact with your envoys and your explorer's visit to Germany has created an interest for your distant empire. We wish to send a discoverer to map potential trade routes and establish a presence representing Germany within your court. If you would accept this exchange we feel that much could be done to repair our current diplomatic situation and improve our relations.

High Rabbi Jakob of Berlin, Upholder of Wisdom
            etc etc.
And make sure one of our monks deliver it not some dirty worker or bloodcrazed warrior. They are not always as pragmatic and diplomatic as we are.

            • The Age of Ashoka

In a short number of years the great Emporer Ashoka has rebuilt India from the dark days of the war. Reaping a considerable peace dividend, the Emporer focused first on bringing the glorious capitol city, Delhi, back to its former glory. The surrounding land so brutally razed by the French and Germans has been repaired, and indeed improved to a more productive state than it was even before the war.

The enlightened Emporer did away with the old system of slavery and the Hindu caste system in favor of a fairer system that gave more freedom to the rural peasantry. This new system of serfdom led to increased productivity by the serfs, and many agrarian advances for the Empire. New crops were harvested, jungles were cleared, new highways constructed. Many of these new serfs were employed at vast plantations created to cultivate the new Indian crops of sugar, dye, and tropical fruit. This was truly a happy time in India.

Madras, a city once under siege and decimated by foreign bombardment has rebounded extraordinarily. The wounds of war healed quickly as many refugees returned to their great city, Madras grew to become a larger and more prosperous city than even before the war. Many Indians though moved to the new territory of Boston, making their homes in this new land.

The reign of Ashoka also saw a rebirth of the arts in India. After centuries of being handed down through oral tradition, the great heroic epic of the Ramayana (also known as the Nicoyana) was written down. To bring the story to the masses, great plays were performed in new theaters throughout the land.

Following his converstion to Confucionism, Ashoka set about promoting the Madras religion throughout the empire, and building a great temple for the faith in Delhi. Swearing off war, Ashoka set India on a new, pacifist footing. Borders were opened, trade flowed freely, and relations warmed with friends and former enemies alike. India happily entertained visitors from Spain, France, and elsewhere during the reign of the great Emporer Ashoka. With the exception of Germany, who so rudely rebuked the Emporer's diplomats on several occasions, the world seemed to be thawing and approaching a new golden age of trust and understanding.

With this new age of understanding came a great deal of information sharing as to the world around them. Indian diplomats traveled to Spain and brought back with them maps of all of Terra. Compiling the new information, Indian cartographers have created the best map of Terra the world has yet seen.

              • The Spanish Succession (Part I)

The entire Spanish nobility collected within the thick walls of the Citadel at the behest of their Queen; Isabella of Castille. Nobody quite knew what the purpose of the event was, but it became increasingly apparent that it was the typical fanfare that accompanied the establishment of a strong dynasty. This was no different.

The event began with a rare appearance by the Guru Santo, who led a mass- meditation ritual before the festivities, which included musical performaces, a reading of "El Cid, El Campeador, y El Rey," an exhibit of animals from India and the Jewish nations, and a presentation of gifts to her majesty the Queen (which included spices, gold, and Incan slaves). Isabella decreed that Ferdinand would assume the throne once she had passed away, and betrothed her two other children, Carlos V and Isabella II to Maria of the house of Bourbon and Gaspar Guzman de Olivares of the house of Habsburg respectively. A deal was made with Gaspar, offering him fiefdoms in the east, near the Russian border and the assurance that his son would be King. The Queen then made a speech where she admitted that her ecnomic reforms could only work temporarily and that Spain had a lot of work ahead of them, she also announced a plan to establish a Spanish navy complete with an offensive force she dubbed the "Armada." She showed maps drawn from explorations by General De Soto. She addressed the potential issue in the south, but assured all of the nobles that Spain would not join a war that didn't have its interest at heart, and their serfs would be safe from war. Finally she led a toast to the success and strength of Spain.

                South of Toledo...

Carlos leaned back against a large rock and waited. He had only seconds to go before he could return to Toledo; finishing the end of his military training. The Queen had been very wise in educating her children; she wanted three different specialists for three different courses of action. Ferdinand was to learn diplomacy, history, and law. Isabella II learned to be a perfect lady of the Spanish court, so that she may well represent her line and her people. Finally Carlos V was to be a great General some day. Today was not that day.

He was starving, thirsty, tired, and suffering heat exhaustion. It was the way of Mendoza though, he wanted a tough hearty General and not some spoiled brat from the nobility. He knew Carlos was a relative of the great General Cadrez, and he didn't want to shame this reputation. Carlos had to pick up a stick to keep his mind occupied. Alright Carlos, they'll be here with water any second, if you can survive this long in the desert by yourself, everyone in camp will be impressed he thought to himself, scribbling random shapes into the sand. He had no idea that he had been betrothed to be married while he was away, and certainly had no idea who his wife would be or what she looked like. I can't wait, I'll be an officer, then a General and I can go on grand campaigns, to the new world Again, his mind wandered.

                "Carlos!"

"Huh, I'm here..." Carlos said, he could barely speak.

"Ah there you, here you little bastard, have some water." General Mendoza said, dumping a bucket of water on Carlos' head.

"Aww, let me get my helmet off first, damn thing!" Carlos said, reaching for his helmet, Mendoza pulled it off before he could get to it.

"Look at you" the General said, slapping Carlos on the shoulder "You even kept your helmet on!"

Carlos grabbed another bucket of water a soldier had handed him and gulped it down. He then collapsed to the ground and smiled "I can't believe it, its over, I've made it."

"Yeah, I hate the damned desert survival ritual, when are you ever going to be in a situation like that?" the General asked, "But it makes you tough, Pizarro had to travel from Novogrod to Toledo by himself, no food, no water, nothing, not even a helmet." he said as he kicked Carlos' helmet over to him.

"No, no helmets" he said, breathing heavily, "Any news from Madrid?"

"Yes, in fact I have a letter from your mother." the General said. As he pulled it out, he added "It isn't addressed to you though, it is addressed to me, there was a large meeting in Madrid, here read it." He walked over to Carlos and dropped the letter onto his chest.

"No letter for her son eh?" Carlos said picking the letter up...

                quote:

                To General Savio Mendoza.

Dearest Savio, I send this message through General Pizarro personally to inform you that your mission has been successful in Toledo; word has it that Carlos shall finish his training by the time you acquire this message. I'll also have you know that the meeting in Madrid went perfectly; your mission is finished in Toledo as Gaspar Guzman de Olivares will be taking over the administration of Toledo and other surrounding territories.

I thank you for your help in raising Carlos as a great Spanish General in the ilk of El Cid. I wish for you to inform him that the house of Bourbon has agreed to terms and he shall be wed to the beautiful Maria. A man of his age should be very pleased by such a young and beautiful girl, I am sure he tires of the bedraggled lot of Incan trollops at your employ.

You will return to Madrid with Carlos, I have a special mission for the both of you. Please make haste, as the house of Habsburg should move into the east quickly, and will most likely give you trouble.

                Yours truly,

                Queen Isabella de Castilla

"Hmm, Maria of Bourbon. What's she like?" Carlos asked.

"I don't know" the General said snatching the letter from Carlos. He held his hand out to help Carlos up "Last time I saw her she was a young child."

"Oh yeah?" Carlos said, getting up on his own "Well let's get the hell out of this place, I want to see Madrid."

                "And Maria." the General countered.

                "Yes, and Maria..."

                • Her Royal Highness Isabella de Castilla, Queen of Aragon, Queen of Leon, Queen of Castille, and Queen of Spain.

TO: High Rabbi Jakob of Berlin, Upholder of Wisdom.
FROM: Salvador Duarte, Foreign Minister of Spain.

Our Queen appreciates your letter, in the name of peace and cooperation we would love to accomodate your ambassadors and cartographers. Our treaties allow for such a visit, but we worry about the ability of German envoys to travel through the lands of Russia and India considering the events surrounding the Great World War.

We would like to express our own interest in healing the wounds caused by our involvement in the Great World War, you must understand it was to Spain's benefit, and we held no ill-will towards the people of Germany, or their faith, we were simply aligned against eachother politically; let us try and change this.

You have our permission, and permission of her Majesty Queen Isabella to come to Spain and visit our court. Hopefully other nations will accomodate your voyage.

                  Thank you for your time,

                  Salvador Duarte de Sevilla
                  Spanish Foreign Minister

                  • Spanish Family Tree as of 1025 a.d.

This is an update of the Spanish royal family tree, with the marriages of Carlos V to Maria of Bourbon and Isabella II to Gaspar Guzman de Olivares of Habsburg. You will note that Isabella's mother, Maria Teresa is also a Habsburg. Yes, Gaspar and Isabella II are actually cousins.

                    • AD 1900

The old Capt’n looked around at all the eager faces in the audience. He was only known as the old Cap’n. The University surroundings echoed London’s rich history. He had played a part in that history and was admired or admonished, such had been his fate. The applause was true enough. His talks always go down well, particularly in the palace. But today at London University he lifted the lid on the tenth century AD.

Sir Alfred had fooled Elizabeth I into banning Captain Manning from English society. But Manning’s deft religious manoeuvres, firstly in using Hinduism and Pacifism to invent new technologies quickly, and secondly in consolidating the organised religion of Confucianism he did thwart Sir Alfred. Alfred’s Jews had failed in their quest to convert England. He and his American friends had militarily seen to this by stunning successes that turned sour and ultimately failed.

Manning aboard his galley did organise the most wondrous affairs that did warm the heart of Elizabeth. She had finally offered him a knighthood also but he refused. He wanted something else. And he got it… but at an expense… alliances shifted…
                      ---
deity of the Confucian heavens was indeed smiling that day in this time space continuum. The miscalculated landing on this planet eons ago had paid off.
                      ---
The backward nation, if you call it that, of Spain was a now distant memory.

The strong and bullish Russians and Chinese were applauded for their pursuits in Space research and presented Elizabeth II with her fiercest competition.

The ancient power of irritating India, now long abated, were revered for their influence on world culture, creativity and dynamism.

The robust and triumphant Germans were consolidating their modern wonder program, out witting all competition.

The pathetic Mongols died out years ago…

The highly cultured French had survived the Great War and boasted the three finest and most highly cultured cities in the world.

The poor Americans, what could be said of them? Never had so much been done by so many for so little – a national characteristic it seems.

And the mighty Inca! How proud our two nations stand. From humble beginnings, oppressive wars and personality disorders did come a major force in world power.

The English, now a fully fledged empire at last, were a proud and strong breed. The sun would never set on the English Empire and Space beckoned.

Alfred did love doodling and upon arrival of the latest Indian map he casually dreamed about his failed plans...

                          • Laboring over the maps released by Indian cartographers, Rabbi Jakob and his brother Lord Protector Wilhelm discuss fervently the shape of the world.

The Lord of German Arms is dismayed by the map. The size and wealth of Germania Major is but a shadow of the Empires to its far northwest. They both agree that something must be done to ensure the growing German people "lebensraum", livingspace, but more importantly ports from where to build a navy. Two thirds of German lands are islands that can only be reached by ships. Their safety will soon be dependent on Germany's ability to dominate the seas of their homeland.

An agreement is made to decomission some of the army in order to build the strength of the navy. Though Rabbi Jakob has doubts. German ships are not very fast, nor very powerful. Unfortunately German scientists know all but nothing about the complexities of shipbuilding. The brothers decide to postpone the creation of a navy until a new is designed.

                            • Emperor Ashoka sits down for brunch with Prime Minister Chanakya, as his grandfather and great-great-uncle had before him. Chanakya droned on and on about foreign policy and threats and different political maneuvers around the globe, but Ashoka couldn’t get past some uneasy facts about his inherited Prime Minister. He was already an established and recognized leader in King Bimbisara’s court, when he met Chandragupta when his grandfather was still a boy. Now, 20 years after his retirement, and 10 years after his death, how is Chanakya still alive? The years show in his face, but… no man could live that long. Its impossible. Some strange magic must be behind it, strange magic indeed. Something must be…

Chanakya - “Sir? Sir, are you listening?”

Ashoka - “Oh yes, sorry, my mind must have wandered, please go on.”

Chanakya - “As I was saying, I am quite worried about the Germans. After the Great War they have rebuilt their army massively. My spies tell me it is larger than our own, and indeed larger than even the Russians.”

Ashoka - “Are they preparing for a new war?”

Chanakya - “Perhaps sire, I am not yet sure. Armies of that size are dangerous sitting at home. They are bred for war, there can be no doubt.”

                              Ashoka - “Against us?”

Chanakya - “Current intelligence is unclear sir. Some suspect the Germans have forged a new alliance with the Inca & English, and may be turning their greedy eye upon the French. Then again it seems hard to imagine them turning on their historic allies so quickly. Perhaps they are stringing along the English and really intend to take all of the southern island for Germany. Others suggest that they are still nursing their defeat in the Great War and intend to bring an army north and invade India and Russia…”

Ashoka - “Troubling, most troubling. We must make it clear to them, and to the world that India is no one’s enemy. In the 20 years of my reign we have not lifted a hand in hostility to anyone. The world must understand we have no desire for war, and wish to live in peace with all the kingdoms of the world as brothers.”

Chanakya - “It may not matter sire… with such an army the Germans could cause considerable problems for all her neighbors, including us. Whether we wish them ill or not, they may wish us ill. Pacifism is no defense against the wicked men in this world, they only understand the language of power. We must rebuild our military.”

Ashoka - “I have seen much wickedness in my days, minister. Wickedness begets wickedness, violence begets violence. All creatures are sacred, I would no sooner order a German killed than a calf. We must assure the Germans, and indeed all nations that India is a nation of peace and goodwill.”

Chanakya - “If there is no other course of action you will accept, I urge you to send me my liege. I will spread your message of peace to the Germans and others personally. I will keep a watchful eye out for anything that poses a threat to us. This is the best way to peace.”

Ashoka - “Very well, I will send you. Just know well that there is no way to peace, peace is the way.”
