Attention All Diplogamers! -
Apolyton Civilization Site
The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.
25 themes/skins/styles are now available to members. Check the select drop-down at the bottom-left of each page.

And btw, you *can* play as different leaders from the same civ. That happened to me in one particular game. (I was Bismarck, and an AI was playing Fred)
You can play the same leaders from te same civ. I just thought in a diplo game we were picking distinct leaders based on geography. I suppose if we play terra random that youldn't be necessary - but I still think we should all be different civs.
We should play on an Earth based map to make posts easier and so we all know where each other is talking about on the world map.
Spread out on the world map so we are not all bunched up is a great way to be insured a little elbow room so we shouldnt be worried about the geo specific regions the leaders we choose are from.
Epic or longer setting is great.
so do we have a consensus yet on the time?
I, perosnally am able to play right now, i am anxious to get started
anyone else?
Take it easy or take it hard either way life is gonna dish it out to ya...
concerning the fighting. we're actually for the same principle here. that noone gets an unfair advantage. i believe that one player getting a full turn of troop movement before the defender can react, is just that.
if its "legislated" then the defender MUST sit idly by. if we go by the regular system, the defender can move troops and even attack back. also, the animations slow unit use IMO quite a bit, allowing even slower machine players some time to do something.
I would like to try just using the regular system. my machine is a few years old so its no speed monster, but the game still runs fine.
maybe we should throw out some specs, if we all have decent machines and connections, then its not much of a problem. I have a 2.4 ghz 1gb ram 4mb\s connection.
terra map is ok. earth map too. but I prefer terra, mainly cause with earth we'll know where everything is... unless someone tweaks the map for us a little. I think I read a post about that somewhere...
I would like for us to play the game without adding too many extra rules and rather adapt as the need arises. the 1 turn buffer is a good way of preventing the back2back turn attack "exploit". the turnbased warfare I dont think is. of course I will accept the will of the majority, but I consider the game to be functional enough at MP to not need such an extra rule. could we at least try it out? and if during the first conflicts it doesnt work well, we could always agree to go over to turn-based warfare. provided all agree that this change may be made during the game.
and. terra maps are larger than normal so the map should not be larger than Normal size. remember, civ4 plays differently than earlier civ games, with fewer cities per civ. too much room will choke civs with extensive maintenance costs and reduce competition and border disputes. I strongly oppose any map size larger than normal for our number of players.
Epic length is good. most of the times listed can work for me at least once a week. but I would need to know well in advance.
finally, if we decide to play the earth map, 2 chinas (the very notion that this is allowed annoys me senseless) will be a problem. who's the real china, yes I'm the real china, will the real china please stand up. please stand up...
I'd like Victoria with the Exp/Fin traits starting in Britain of course! But keep any Euro player a little away, unless we use a huge map (which I'd love to do sometime!!)

wanna try tonight? (friday) or saturday\sunday. we should be able to get a game going in the weekend. if only for a few hours to get started.
I suggest we all meet in the game lobby and quickly flesh out the details, like map and war rules, by popular vote, shouldnt take more than 10-15 mins max. then off we go.
thats about all I can remember. It must be noted however, that the host, (The Capo, will you host? you seem to be in control) should have an earth map ready if we choose to go for earth. I remember reading a post about someone tweaking the earth map for 7-8 players... I'll look for it.

That is assuming that said player has his animations turned on... I've found that if you switch off animations, battles results with you as the aggressor are resolved instantly, regardless of whether the other player has it activated. Similarily, if a player has animation switched player, another player with animation swicted off will still see the attack animation of the first player regardless.
The thing with turn-based war is that I'm sure that people will forget it, things will go wrong, and we'll have all kinds of debates going on on how it should've gone and how it went and why it shouldn't have been the way it went, etc. etc.
I forsee endless debates.
I can see the point of the pro-turn-based-war people, but I wonder if it's really possible to do it in huge diplo games. In the end I think the best way to enforce the rules is to let the game itself enforce the rules.

So. We have 3 main groups as stated before. 2 euros, 4 americans and 2 far east spread by 3 hours.
challenging...
Regardless. the weekend is here. I can put in civ'ing anytime during the weekend, hopefully so can all of you. but we have to find a time when it fits everyone. the time suggested by cyber would work for all but Kuno. (unless he doesnt mind civ'ing at 5:30 in the early morning hours, and that deity has seen the post and gets up at 7:30 on a saturday...)
great work cyber, unfortunately there was "a line in the calculation" as we say in norway... or something like that. I'll suggest another one:
We need confirmation for this ASAP. lets get this game going! all other details as cyber suggested.
The Capo hosts.
