  • Seeing all the action here I needed to say something as well. All is good guys what happened happened no going back, I’m just sad that we invested so much time in that game; just to see it go like that in 1hr while I wasn't here. Also u guys give too much credit to Vile, come on be realistic anybody can beat an Ai. From the written above sounds like he kicked my ass like I was there lol. Whatever big army he had, he was ages behind in techs compared to me. So the end of the war would have been futile for him if u ask me.

I don’t blame Frank, that’s his game style, but again at least have some balls to face me when I was there frank not while I’m gone next time plz. Again no harm done here, I’m ok with what happened just a bit immatured. I just hate that we wasted so much time to end like that, that’s what bothers me the most.

lets end it here guys, enough time wasted already on this issue.

    peace

    • Mike I don't have a problem with you being upset about us attacking Toni, but the problem is, you never offer us any alternative other than to allow him to sit peacefully.

Everytime someone couldn't make it you were the #1 person saying "You guys never finish games..." and such when we would suggest starting a new one.

Was killing him dirty? Sure, but its just as dirty to let him off the hook just because the AI is around.

      • Look, I promised myself I wouldn't get tangled up in this debate, but really felt I had to chime in.

        1) Was attacking Toni when he was away unfair? Probably, but the long-standing rule I have always operated under is 'if you fail to make a game, then you get played by the AI-in which case all bets are off.'

        2) Toni is usually a very reliable player, but I was quite disappointed when he both failed to show AND failed to inform us, both of which reduced my sympathy for his plight markedly.

        3) Were I to find myself in a similar position to Toni, I would simply 'cop it sweet'. I certainly wouldn't bring the whole game down because I had lost a few cities in my absence. I was in a MUCH worse position than anyone except Alex in that last game-but I was prepared to tough it out until the last gasp (because that is my way!)

        4) Which brings me to my next big gripe. After watching one otherwise GREAT game end prematurely, I then had to watch as I twice lost great starting positions because someone didn't like theirs. Now, my very initial start point on the 3rd go was absolute crap (ice/tundra on one side, desert on the other). Yet I never asked for a restart, and I ended up doing quite well so far in SPITE of the bad terrain.

I guess my ultimate point is that it is high time everyone just GREW UP. I mean it, if you can't handle setbacks like losing a couple of cities, or starting in a crappy location, then I am feeling that MP games are just not for you. I mean there is nothing wrong with being competitive, even to the point of going to war with one another, but it is how we deal with adversity which best defines how good we are as a civ-player, IMO.

            • I will accept all your comments Marcus if u had at least some decent civ skills. That just coming from you is a total laugh.

How did i bring the game down, i just don't understand Marcus, game went on without me from what i saw, so i did no have any role in bringing it down.

                • That is quite true, Toni, but my point is still totally valid. I was almost winning that particular game until I lost my capital, but did I quit in the face of that adversity? No, I did not! I pushed ahead regardless-and though I appreciate everyone's help in getting my old Capital back (including your help, Toni), it doesn't change the fact that I could have easily quit the game-then and there-and spent my time doing other things. Even that earlier game where I lost my Holy city to the barbs (hmmm, do I see a THEME running through all of this? ) I only gave up when I had nothing left to throw at you . I certainly didn't suggest that everyone else stop the game due to my misfortune! The point is that we are NEVER going to finish a game as long as WINNING remains more important than the simple enjoyment of a multi-player game with friends. I am sorry if you don't agree with me Toni, but that is just how I feel on the matter.

                  • Oh, and those comments-coming from you-Toni, are just downright rude and nasty. I had you pegged as being better than that, however I see that I was mistaken. I confess that I do not have the greatest civ-skills out there, but I am learning, improving (slowly) and not totally obssessed with winning to the point of wanting to give my entire nation away if it seems like I won't build the spaceship in time! In many ways I think that it is these points which makes me most suited to Multiplayer games, but that is merely in this writer's humble opinion .

True, in actual fact I didn't fight the malinese much at all. I attacked Mike who WAS the biggest military power in the game and while that was going on I took three of your cities with a big mace/pike stack, before sending the bulk of them back to try and hold against Mike. If you were there for sure you would have defended and counter-attacked much better and maybe even kicked my arse badly but also I would have had my whole army there instead of fighting Mike.

Whatever big army he had, he was ages behind in techs compared to me. So the end of the war would have been futile for him if u ask me.
That was exactly why I felt I had to attack right away, regardless of you being there. I had a big obsolete army that would be completely ineffective if I waited much longer. You had cavs but not very many, they're expensive and most of your cities seemed to be cottage spam rather than productive. Either way I wasn't going to spend another sunday pressing enter and waiting for you to build the spaceship, or for Mike to launch an attack on his terms. I had to do something about the tech gap quick, and the only way I figured to do that would be to capture all that lovely cottage spam and try to hold it. I am however sorry the game turned out the way it did.

                          • Tx for the post Vile, u did great going after mike and the ai. Well done on taking the risk, which paid off nicely. Nice job

                            • I think alot of the posts have gone off subject now.

Bad starts, good starts, player skills and what ever have no bearing on what happened.

My gripe is simple the attitude displayed to toni's civ as soon as he was AI. It was totaly wrong to do what you guys did. Plus what is the glory in taking a few cities you know you would unlikely get if otni was there. Not much of an achievement.

Why did yous abandon the game. Yous were more then prepared to play on and tear tonis civ apart. You can do the same to mine, whats the difference.

The reason i wont be partaking in this group andy more is this. Toni like most of of us gives up many hours every weekend to play this game. Many hours he could spend with his partner or our socialising. We play a large game with lots of players that is going well. We went to alot of effort to make sure all players surive the barbs. We invest nearly 1 month of weekends to play this game. And it was al runined becuase people counldnt wait. It would have been a far more enjoyable war for yous had yous waited. I dont care if you gangbang toni, but do it when hes present.

This is the sole reason why i wont play anymore. Why waste another month playing a game that is only runined by players silly actions exploiting the AI. No other reason.

                              • I talked with marcus, all is good between us. And we dicided that we put an end to the old game, by starting to post stories on the newest game.

So from what i heard we are not playing this coming sunday due to someppl being busy. Ok so are we good for the following sunday the 26th guys?
