The greatest Civ game

Didn't vote because PtW wasn't on there.

Started with CIV III--never played any of the others. CIV III, while remarkable and fascinating, is no match for PtW. Problems w/ PtW are minor and easily surmountable through the editor. Don't play MP, so don't know about those problems.

Any of you old enough to remember a time before computer games? Those of us who wanted S&T games played the old Avalon Hill board games--and solotaire play met "moding" the board game as you went along.

With more time on my hands than I've had in the last 20 years I went looking for a good S&T game for my computer. All were carp until someone showed me CIV III and I fell in love. Then PtW came out and it was pure lust!

I'm really curious about CIV II, though. If I can find it, I'll buy it.

PTW is an expansion for Civ3, so you should vote Civ3 anyway. Besdies, you need to break this tie with MGE.

MGE? Excuse ignorance--I see the phrase but don't know what it means. Managing Graphics Editor? Mostly Gooey Extremes? Manly Girl Elf?

Civ2MGE, because of the horribly addicting scenarios, obviously....and well, Civ was a classic but I didn't play it as much, while Civ 3 is greater than all of them for SP of the standard game, but the lack of scenario support (other than limited modding) makes it inferior IMHO.

CtP II, as Modded
PtW
Civ 3
CtP II, Vanilla
Civ: CtP

Never played: Civ, Civ Net, Civ II

From the stand point of managing my empire, I prefer the CTP II's Public Works over micromanaging Civ 3/PtW's workers, and find that automating the workers to be a poor substitute except for specific tasks like cleaning up pollution or building a road to a specific city (otherwise, they always seem to stumble into another civ's borders). That said, from the aggressor's view point, during battle I like being able to halt enemy's public works by capturing their workers.

Why do you do seem to believe the greatest Civ game will be called Civ4? The greatest Civ game will be something as radical and inventive as the original. If it ever comes it certainly won't be called Civ4.

Thanks Dr Spike, but I don't consider Freeciv the " greatest version of Civ of all time" (tm). At least not yet. Right now it's very playable however and the more effort is put in the project now will pay off in the future.
