How do you deal with slave revolts?

The slave revolt can only happen if you are in the Slavery civic. Usually the second option is best, but especially on Marathon (since a lost turn means 3 times less) the third option is nice if you can afford to have that city in revolt for 1-3 turns. Only the third option can have longer effects than a single turn and it doesn't affect stuff like city population, so how exactly did your capital get ruined? If you are very very unlucky you can get the same event many times in quick succession... That sucks, but is very rare.
Multiple instances of the same resource don't give you an extra benefit. They are very nice for trading though, especially strategic resources like metals and Ivory. The stupid AIs will pay an arm and a leg for your Copper even if they have Iron themselves already.

I think on marathon in recent patches the odds of a repeat revolt have been increased, certainly since the 2nd last patch, my games on marathon have seen cities revolt on consecutive turns much more often, so much so I changed from using option 3 to option 2.

I've never tried this, but does anyone know that if you choose the third option (which never seems to end the revolt quickly!) and then switch out of slavery (ideally having a spiritual civ) will the revolt end?

I usually just crack down and take the pain. As the slave revolt is usually in my capital as Rah said you can't afford that being in disorder.

This thread has changed how I handle it currently. For any city besides by cap I use option 3 now. Yesterday (normal speed) I had 4 non cap revolts. 1 ended in 1 turn, 2 in two and 1 in 3 turns.

Well, I came up with another idea for this recently. Or maybe this was just common sense and this is a pointless bump. Anyways, if you're spiritual pick the 1 turn of disorder and use the free civic change to switch out of slavery. It can still continue for one more turn once you switch it seems, but it's a guaranteed way to end them quickly, you just give up whipping for 5 turns.

If I'm spiritual, I'm usually not parked in slavery to avoid this in the first place. I'll switch into slavery when I need to whip and then switch back out. But I guess your thought would work.

I'm the same in that I also have changed my thinking. But, I also take option 3 now for my capital sometimes unless there is a specific reason I want to avoid a possible long revolt and can afford the pop. Occasionally I get the long 3 turn revolt, but I've seen a lot of one or two turn revolts as well, and it can beat lossing the pop sometimes.

And if I'm spiritual, I do try to get out of slavery ASAP, and only go back to it for mass whipping for a short period, and then I switch out as soon as I can... keeping revolts to a minimum.
                Keep on Civin'

That works if you do all your whipping at once, but I usually don't. I probably should though, then I can take advantage of caste system for workshops/specialists or tribalism to be cheap early on while still getting the whip.

Granted it may not be totally optimized but with a little bit a planning it works fine.

Well, I'm not sure about optimization. To be honest I'm not even sure of how to measure that. It's not the most optimal use of whipping, but remaining in slavery longer isn't the most optimal use of spiritual which has a big effect.

There's always trade offs. But If I have a few cities that I can whip two citizens but one where I can only whip 1, I'll do it just to fit my time schedule.
