  • Probably don't know about Deity plus or Barb Swarm either.

But I'll bet no one here knows the NONE partisan trick. To the best of my knowledge I discovered it about 9 years after the game released, and few people commented on it.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

    • If you had submitted it to the cheat list we sent to Firaxis prior to Civ III, then more people would have known it

What's the huge one? I'm bad at noticing bugs.

        • The one where you can get MULTIPLE free techs from either Oracle or Liberalism... sigh.
If somebody wants to cheat in a non comparison, non contest SP game, so be it. But we have to watch out for it in MP games.

          • Just a question, is the civstats bug for civ4 known which makes it possible to login to the game without anybody knowing (through civstats)?

I don't want to make the bug known b/c many people will exploit it, making the no-double-move rule worthless.

Now we're talking about big bugs here, I thought I'd put it up

            • I guess that makes two huge bugs. I only play direct IP MP games, and I'm not aware of the bug you speak of.

              • At least, while there have been lots of bugs in CIV IV, the amount of cheats have been lower that we dealt with in II.

if you are talking about in civ2 when you lost your city during mid to late game and a bunch of partisans sprout up dependent on size of city that was taken, i know that. i was also able to use a spy and bribe the AI's partisans and they were "none" units. also the barbarian partisans you could bribe them and they'd be "none" units also. if theres more im quite curious.

                      • how do people find out all these bugs, alotta trial and error, requires alotta patience. multiple techs with oracle/liberalism, is that turn/year based too? im kinda thinking why these people need to discover these things, i mean if you want to cheat just go into WB and give yourself 20 modern tanks and win the game instantly or very quickly. thats gotta suck playing MP with people who know these cheats, makes me not want to ever play MP.

                        • Either by accident (the reassigning of troops (II) when the turn was turning over) I noticed it a couple of time but didn't put it together until someone else mentioned it. But that's usually how it's found. You see something strange and you try to replicate it out of curiosity, not necessarily as an attempt to cheat.

Or by research (odeo years) Since every turn of anarchy was so wasteful the thought of minimizing it was real high. I still can't believe it took someone so long to notice the quite simple pattern. Same thing for hut and resource locations, but those were easier to plot. There was much debate whether these were actual cheats or just extended knowledge. In the end odeo year and using hut finder were considered not (since you could do the same with pencil and paper). BUT everyone was aware of them and could decide themselves.

IN civ IV there are very few thank god. And if you're suspicious you can save ever turn and go back and check after the game is over. We used to do this in the old days when we had new players and wanted to make sure they were trustworthy.

These days I don't solicit at gamespy so most of our games are with people we know and trust. (which is the best way in my opinion) And if you play with the same group, and someone is doing something funky, you'll notice eventually. And in all honesty if you're playing with a lot of the same guys, as long as what they're doing isn't a game breaker, does it really matter? The purpose is to have fun. And I'll state that I'm 100% sure that most of the people that I've played with over the last decade or so, have not intentionally cheated.

                          • heres my ottoman 1500 A.D. game save, as you can see im the dominate super power. as of right now im destroying sureyevan(?), shouldnt take much longer now that some of my units are getting strong, kinda easy when i took all iron on our land so he cant make crossbows or pikemen and he has no horse, took all those too . so its riflemen/cavalry against mace/long/spear's, ive killed a good 80+ units and his power has plummeted. trying to get my warlord unit to be ubber strong, if i just wipe em out shouldnt be hard to get him near 100 exp. or more. its kinda funny, he had several large cities 14+, now hes down to two one of em his cap. im far in the tech lead, a good 10 techs at least, a domination win shouldnt be hard especially when i get to infantry/gunships/tanks, i'll be going up against riflemen at best.

                              • Here's a game for you Brandon, you might like the way it's set up (other than the civ you share the continent with). It's a similar style to how you play but with torodial (I like it more strategy wise) and a large rather than 2x huge map. There's 7 civs large map. There's atleast one on the starting continent, and you've even got a nearby stone, the civ you're next to plays as a builder too so you don't have to war right away if you don't want to (though I did, why pass up the free workers?).

Raging barbs are on though, but they won't be much of a problem for you. The GW is a joke to get if you want it.
