    When 3 declare at once (when it's not a holy war) you're probably sitting on the bottom of the power graph.

      good to know. I had the techs, but guess I just hadn't built enough units.

        yeah, that will do it.
        Or else your one enemy bribed the others. (but your position on the PG would play some part in whether they would agree)

            Here's mine:

            difficulty=Monarch
            speed=Normal
            Civ=Darius (financial/organized) / Inca [Using unrestricted leaders ]
            map=terra
            map size= normal
            Science percentage=90%
            Gold + - = +3
            Beakers=136
            Turn=128
            default 7 civs
            No technology brokering

            I picked Inca, figuring that it would help me eliminating a few early civs and getting some good cities out of them. It turned out that I got stuck in a large peninsula with the only choke point occupied by Gandhi/Mali !! Not only that his skirmishers got a random event which boosted their attack so I had no chance of taking any early cities. After sending a bunch of quechuas out scouting I ended up building a work boat to reach other civs. The last civ was discovered by the work boat on turn 104, year 275BC. That really messed up my trading scheme even though I headed for Alphabet and got it very early.

            BTW, I took advantage of the facts that none of the other civs other than Gandhi knows where I am and Gandhi, at the bottom of the score, is unlikely to attack, to do development without any defense worth speaking of. I'm two turns from getting Colossus which will really help coastal capital city and, hopefully, will get GL shortly afterwards since I'm the only person with Literature right now.
            Other cities will have to start building up troops though. Macemen will be available in 5 turns, hopefully before Gandhi gets Feudalism.
            BTW, if I wanted to get more gold/beakers earlier I could make unfair trading of my Metal Casting (from Oracle) for Calendar/Currency. But the game starts out pretty interesting so I want to finish it without trading my techs cheaply .

              Good job... When you don't have to worry about building any kind of defense (I will assume you were playing standard barbarians and not raging hordes ) it's much easier to hit cross over. But still, that's nice and early.

              I just played a game where defense wasn't really needed, with William (fin/creative) at emperor. (no tech trading), single land mass, average size, and normal speed.
              I crossed over at 141 and was thrilled. I was on the coast, and had a great choke point. On the other side of the choke point was crappy land, and my neighbor took a long time to build a city that was even close to it. By the time he sent a SOD, it was around turn 170, and i was more than able to destroy it.

              I don't think I could pull that off in an MP game, but for SP, good enough.

              However... 128... CONGRATS
              Keep on Civin'

                Oops, forgot to mention that. No barbs .

                Anyway, it's a peninsula so it got filled up pretty quick and Quechua are good at handling the early barb archers so I'm not sure if it would make a lot of difference if barbs had not been turned off. With a few archers to defend against axemen then quechuas are good at raiding barb cities for gold.

                I'll try a game with barbs on tonight.

                  With barbs this time

                  Same as before but with barbs turned on (not raging barbs)

                  Turn 126
                  Beakers 129
                  Gold surplus 0
                  Research percentage 70%

                  But I'm actually doing much better this time since I have 8 cities (instead of only 5 the last time): 2 from the Mayan (eliminated), 2 from the Indian (3 cities left and my macemen are on their way to crush their archers), 1 from the barbs and 3 built by myself (another one soon). And a decent army this time as well.
                  Another 20 or so turns so I can develop the resource squares using Calendar technology just obtained; get Currency (2 turns); take advantage of Colossus (5 turns); then it will really boom much better than the last time. There's a good chance I can finish this game by Conquest before 1200 AD. My current score is 702, the second best civ is 494.
                  Doing Quechua rush works much better at marathon speed though since that virtually makes them move twice as fast.

                    i prefer marathon too, better gaming experience, each age lasts longer, game lasts longer but better chances of it being more challenging at times for me.

                      My quickest ever:

                      Civ -- Pericles (Greek)
                      difficulty=Monarchy
                      speed=Normal, 8 civs/default - no tech trading/brokering
                      Civ=philosophical, creative
                      map=pangea
                      map size=standard
                      Govt=Representative
                      Science percentage=100%
                      Gold = +2/turn
                      Beakers=153
                      Turn=153

                      Got both Pyramids and Oracle (Code). The used an Engineer for the Library. Then prepped for the war -- and good thing I did.

                        my newest one:

                        civ: americans/washington
                        exp/chm

                        map: continents, huge, marathon, 6 civs

                        40% +5 gold, turn 156(468 actually but divide by 3 since its marathon), 163 beakers

                        well before 1500 a.d. this time, its almost 1200 a.d. this time, starting the fast exspansion now, had to wait to get my holy shrines and markets built, didnt want to kill my science.

                        will update once my science actually surpasses the turns since i play marathon, will be around 700 or more for science tho like usual.

                          I'll assume with only 6 civs on a huge map, you had plenty of room seperation with your neighbors.

                          But around 150 seems to be doing well. Good job.

                            i switch it up each time, last time before this i had 8 civs on four continents, only had 22 cities but was much more powerful than everyone and got an ally and a vassal and 2nd got 4th as a vassal but 2nd isnt 2nd anymore, my ally shot up to 2nd after being 3rd and my vassal is getting stronger and the other two civs were no match still with crossbows and it was getting kinda boring, started a new game (might go back and finish, conquest would take too long but the space race has started for me but thats another 100+ turns to get everything built probably more since i only got 22 cities and the turns are very slow cuz i got a huge navy and am building my army and there isnt much of a challenge as i thought i would get with only 22 cities so i started a new, we each have our own continent (no tech trading), makes the game interesting especially if the ai does good which two are, im still in the lead but not much and the two below me are about the same power as i and i'll get alot more cities this time (have 26 already, just got astronomy, got a nice piece of subcontinent thats part of 2nd's continent, hehehehe). i like were we all have equal chance at greatness and hoping one of these games they will actually give me a challenge as equals, thats the biggest reason i wont play the upper diffuculties, if i have to give them the "big" advantage then that kinda sucks and i might want to cheat to keep up, id rather not and hope as equals one of these games will be most enjoyable, ive had a few and ive yet to lose. one time i had to use my spy's to keep one from beating me in the spaceship race (vanilla version, i hate the espionage "new" system in bts, yet to use it), other than that ive been either able to convert or ally myself to 2nd or just beat them outright, anythings possible.

                            well anyways an update from my prior post:
                            first crossover was actually at date 1065 a.d./156 ((468/3) turns (said just before 1200 a.d.)

                            since i play marathon numbers are tripled, here are my tripled numbers for this crossover:
                            turn 649/ 661 beakers
                            60% +40 gold
                            1508 a.d.
                            im cruising and caught up to formerly #1 now #2 and am about to just start killin unless they can keep up, still only 2nd most powerful. have yet to build an offense, but i have a strong d. but since i got alot of cities with strong infrustructure and high production (focusing on farmlands this time) building an army wont take long plus they've yet to discover astronomy. remember no tech trading, always

                              I had one of my better ones last night...
                              Played continents (standard size) and had only two other civs on my land area, while the other land mass had 5, one of which was removed fairly early

                              It was normal speed, Monarch, no tech trading or vassals, and I randomly got Ragnar.

                              I started on the southern tip with three sea resources and a silver. The other two civs were in the middle and north tip... but there was a big area of jungle seperating me from them. I dropped my second city on the border of the jungle near some flood plains, and only had to back fill from there with no real compitition from either for land.

                              Neither civ got an early religion, so Oracle for Code was in order, and then after that, the mids.
                              I crossed over at 125 with 128 beakers, +1 gold at 70%
                              Keep on Civin'
                              RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O
