I honestly never care about bpt as an absolute value, I care about the relative tech pace, which are map/player/leader dependant.

Also, alot depends on the first GP you got. If you get an academy early you are playing a very different game to if you got a GP for a shrine. The academy is probably the better route if you have already got alot of land is an islands game, the shrine is better on a pangaea where you need to groww wide quickly to get enough land.

Ming: That's 500 bpt for a couple of turns, then dropping to something far more realistic like 200-300 bpt. It's for if you need to grab a specific tech like Lib in a race etc. One MP game I was at around 15 bpt (breakeven) t95. T106 I was at 70 bpt (breakeven). t112 was around 300 bpt at absolute breakneck speed. From T106 to T112, with another player funding me I teched Polytheism through to Music, hiding the research so that I picked up Poly>Aesthetics>Lit>Music on subsequent turns, using 3 turns to 98% research Poly and Aesthetics and overflowing into the later techs. I had to do this because another player already had Lit and had built the GL, but couldn't quite reach my maximum bpt...

only an idiot like you thinks i "rig" the game, its not my fault your computer cant handle the gigantic maps and that you dont like your enemies getting huge, maybe you cant take down huge AI empires.

and im pretty sure some people would agree with me when i say "speak for yourself from now on", and grow up.

Well... from reading across other threads you have posted in, it seems that there are others that agree with me.

its not my fault your computer cant handle the gigantic maps
One of the smart things you have said... no, it can't handle the gigantic maps, but even if it did, I would add some more AI's if I played a map that huge, and kept the ratio at the level the game designers put into the game.

and that you dont like your enemies getting huge,.
Everything is relative... you allow yourself to get huge and the AI's do the same... it's all relative.
        It's really a simple concept...

maybe you cant take down huge AI empires
Is that supposed to be an insult?

and im pretty sure some people would agree with me when i say "speak for yourself from now on", and grow up.
Very few people would agree... and from reading through all the threads, I think even more disagree.

I have questioned your style of play... your "strategies" and "tactics"... your level of supposed experience and knowledge... And it is my opinion that your traditional style of map/game is a rig in the players favor. Limited early contact, tons of room to grow, no events, no barbs, no espionage... all things that favor a builder... And ALL of my comments are based on the Civ Discussions...

You on the other hand just start throwing around personal insults when questioned. You tell people to "grow up"... call them idiots... whatever. Anybody can read through your posts and see that you seem to respond to criticism with personal attacks, none of which are civ/game related.

It is allowed on these forums to question play, settings, strategies... question level of experience... but it is NOT OK to resort to personal insults in the On Topic Forums. Maybe you should check out the forum FAQ before you continue to call people idiots and tell them to grow up
        Keep on Civin'

you should speak for yourself, you've been anything but polite and respectful with some of your posts and how you go about replying, for one you assume too much, and it seems once someones tried to correct/explain more in depth your minds already made up.

as far as people agreeing/disagreeing most of the people here havent said anything, they've done the smart thing and stayed outta this.

and as far as playing the game to the creators intentions, i didnt know you spoke for Sid Meier!

Not polite... Bummer... But your idea of not polite is anybody that doesn't agree with you. So I guess there are a lot of non polite people here. As far as respectful, respect is something you earn, and so far, your posts don't do that

And you seem to be the one with your mind already made up, unwilling to seriously listen to other with more experience than you.

I don't speak for Sid... But at least I was a play tester for the civ series and even get credit in the manual... How about you?

you dont know my ideals so dont assume too. as far as earning your respect, i dont want it.

maybe if you werent biased you'd see i have thanked some people for their insight and knowledge, i just dont want yours.

wow, i didnt know 4-5 people constitute this whole website, i thought it was bigger with more people

i didnt know being a tester gives you the privilege for telling us how the game was meant to be played. just because you tested it doesnt mean you make the rules/preferences for how civ4 is played, you said so yourself options are what make this game great, so why you downing people who play with different settings than yourself? maybe you should stop while you still think your ahead

You should really take your own advice

And I have no problem with most people who play different settings. I play different settings all the time myself.
I love all the different things you can do with the game. And I'm currently having a blast playing the Warlord Strategy, something I had never done before.

But if somebody comes here bragging how great they are while playing a rigged world on noob levels, I have no problem pointing out to them that maybe they need to rethink their high opinion of themself

all your doing is showing us all how narrow minded you really are

i never said im the best, i always say i can hold my own, nothing more nothing less. as far as bragging bout only losing once thus far, hey i won every game on monarch for vanilla, most people have some trouble with that, i havent and i felt good. if people thought i was bragging, that wasnt my intent, was i gloating? i can see some people perceiving it that way, if so to everyone besides you, i apologize.

You do rig your games to try and get the kind of gameplay experience you want. You favor late combat over early, building and isolation over early war and diplomacy.

That's fine, I rig my games to get the experience I want too. Everybody does it. If I had more time I'd probably enjoy your style of game, but I usually only have time for normal sized maps.

But when other people give strategy advice, (That is what this forum is about), it's usually done with the appreciation of what kind of game style that advice is useful for. There are a lot of experienced players here, if somebody gives advice that is not appropriate, it will be questioned. If you respond to questioning with personal attacks it doesn't say much for your original strategy advice.
Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi Wan's apprentice.

i dont favor any era of combat, for the most part i end up on the biggest continent with the most AI's, im used to fighting early. a few games i get my own continent so i build up til astronomy which makes sense.

my settings will change in time, they always do. for the most part im trying to reach deity with the settings as is, once i reach my peak, i'll change em up and go back down to prince or monarch and try going for deity again and so on.

as far as relevant advice, i appreciate all that and thank the people for giving such insight, as far as ming, hes not good at giving advice and hes done nothing but make assumptions and act like a child towards me, you can appreciate that im dealing with an old child at the moment, im not trying to annoy the people that have helped me, if i have i apologize. as soon as ming stops talking to me, we can end this whole debacle, the choice has always been ming's.
