  • OCC question

Not having played it yet, I was wondering if there are different rules in effect for it.

    I know if you capture a city it's auto-razed.
Are there different rules wrt national wonders?
    Anything else?

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I hear that if you also check the "cities can not be raized" that takes precedence.

    The other differences are:

    1. You can build 5 National Wonders in your city intead of just two.

    2. All National Wonders that normally require X buildings only require the one.

You needn't bother trying to win culturally or via domination.

But you can still win via:
    1. Conquest
    2. UN/AP
    3. Space race

But don't expect a good ranking

OCC is great, especially with cyrus or suleiman, depending on how warmongering or teching you want to be, all other trait combos seem less interesting to me for that type of game.

        Beelining administration seems ovious :P

I sometimes play OCC with an edited start location and great wall from the beginning, Agressive AI and AW on :P If you really want to get the hell out of it, do this on next war mod with cyrus. You can't believe just how powerfull your last units will be (especially if you take West Point and Red Cross on your list of 5 national wonders).

          OCC can be great fun.

The only real problem with it is resources, since you can only get resources from the area surrounding that one city, and by trade. For most resources that is just part of the fun. However, it does become pretty hard if you don't have iron, coal and oil.

So my advice is that you use worldbuilder at the beginning, before you have invested in teh game, to check that they are within 4 tiles of your city. Then switch builder off, try to forget, and play away. Still hard to get those resources and keep them, and all the rest of the fun of the fair, but it avoids the frustration a long way into a game that there really is little hope.

(In a normal game, you are far more likely to have these resources because you have more cities, but also if you don't you can then have the achieveable and fun challenge of grabbing them. In OCC you can't grab resources, so its a fair cheat in my book.)

aren't cyrus and suleiman both imperialistic? which would obviously be the worst choice for OCC.

Twice the amount of GG is the BEST choice IMHO.

OCC is usually a Conquest victory from what I recall.

If you decide to go for your own religion, make sure you spread it EVERYWHERE so you have more friendly AIs... otherwise go with a convenient local religion (even if you spread OTHER religions).

Build LOTS of army LOTS and LOTS and LOTS.

Really? I can still get an SS victory on anything up to monarch (though it is usually a very hard victory to get on monarch, you do need some good land and a little luck with religions).
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Another question since we are talking OCC here.

What 5 national wonders do people usually build.
I would think that Globe Theater and Iron works would be a must. And I would probably want Oxford and Wall Street as well. But that's just me.

I would love to hear what other people think.

And I really do miss the old days when you could build all of them

Picking those 5 national wonders is so hard.

Globe is probably right, though it is worth checking that you are not just going to hit a health cap instead. With religions and civics it can be easier to keep happy than healthy. Iron works as long as you have the iron and coal.

National Epic can be worth looking at. It comes early and doubles the GP points for your whole empire. I have found on OCC you get lots of wonders (what else to build) and so GP can be in good supply.

Oxford is certainly necessary I would say. Wall Street yes if you are going to have lots of army maintence, but remember with only one city, city maintenance and civic costs are almost none-existance, so you can ofen run the slider near 100% science.

Certainly, but can't you ALSO get a conquest victory in those games?

Only 5? I wonder if Moai would be worth it early game. Or would you even consider a coastal start?

aren't cyrus and suleiman both imperialistic? which would obviously be the worst choice for OCC.

SO what would you consider? I think EXP would be almost necessary, and CHA could be good for the happiness+ quicker promotions. IND if you want a lot of wonders. FIN probably is a good choice too.

I wouldn't take ORG, SPI (very little need to switch civics), CRE, IMP, or AGG.

                          Dunno about PHIL or PRO.

Which leader? Which civ? What map size?

I'm gonna try this next time.

Also how quickly would you go for a cottage eco?

Gandhi is probably the most powerful leader for OCC (cottage economy is not powerful enough, you have to use specialists, scientists specifically and add them all to your city apart from the first one for an academy).

You actually have to change from Org Rel to pacifism alot as there are alot of small wonders to build and you need every but of help you can get, and occasionally to theocracy when you build units. Bureaucracy is a nobrainer, though hed rule until you have finished the globe theatre if you want it (Sometimes I wonder about that, I think you can get away without it occasionally). Swapping between slavery and caste system (need that university now to get Oxfords? But only have 3 mines? Slaving for 5 pop (and only takes a few or so turns to regrow, while you build oxford). Depending on health, of course...using caste system to have 6 scientists in you cap with pacifism, NE, nevermind PHI...that's a lot of scientists pretty damned quickly.

SPI is the second best trait in OCC
