  • Playing it differently from 4000BC

Ever go back to 4000BC and restart from scratch? I just did. I was so thoroughly disgusted with my play, but enamoured of the map that I'm back to the beginning. Hadn't really gotten very far, very early found the German's cap unocupied so I destroyed it (size 1) and wiped him out. By making one city I can cut off a fair chunk of land for future developement. I reloaded when I had 3 cities. Placement wasn't so bad but my sci choices weren't me.

Now I have knowledge of the map though, kind of an unfair advantage...but I don't really care about that.

Do you ever play the same map twice?

On rare occasions, when the map is sweet, I do. Doesn't feel right, though.

Exploration is a big part of the fun for me. Therefor I can never get myself to restarting all over.

Yeah I got that feeling, and I miss the exploration. Haven't even bothered to some extent and so the barbs are coming on strong...

Sure. I got a great fractal map with three distinctive landmasses. I used worldbuilder to try all three.

I almost never restart the same map. The only time I did was playing the Spanish and my capital site was sooo sweet I didn't want to give it up. I restarted several times b/c I kept coming up 1 turn shy of getting Buddhism! I finally gave up b/c the only other civ on my continent was Sitting Bull and I had an Barb event that conquered my 3rd city, which HE then captured. I had 5 cities to his 12.

I occasionally will, but only if the first game goes badly and I want to see if I can cope with the same situation again (ie, learn). Similarly to freecell in that way

I've played it differently from 4000BC a couple of times, just in the last year.

I save every 4000 BC start, for just that reason. I have yet to go back and replay one, though. I will have my games branch off often, though, where I play down two different from a particular point for learning purposes.

I used to - a lot - in civ I on my Amiga - because would generation would take - what ? Actually i dont remember. An hour ?

With it being reduced to seconds i never do it.

Yes I do, only on deity though.

I used to regenerate until I got the spot I wanted. But now, I just always go with what I have, unless I am playing deity.

I've got another game going, I'm thinking of putting some screen shots in this thread. Spruce it up a bit.

One of the better starting spots I've had. To the south are the Koreans.
