  • If you could bring one thing from an earlier Civ version to CIV...

    ...what would it be?

Personally from Civ III I'd like seafaring civs with special ships/sea related abilities that start the game every time on the coast.

Transform terrain, so I could have a counter for that god-awful Global Warming

1.) Bring back the feature from SMAC where a player could name landmarks for all to see, and the ability to rename those landmarks transferred with control of the territory.

2.) Also from SMAC: Economic Victory

3.) Also from SMAC: It would've been nice if the NextWar scenario had included such things as underwater cities.

4.) I thought the wonder movies from Civ II have never been equaled, and it would be nice to see them again.

5.) I always liked the B-52 unit from CTP...and wish that either it had been the American UU or that it represented the early-level bomber. Honestly, the era of the turboprop strategic bomber was from the 1930s to the 1960. The B-52 era started in 1955, and plans are for it to continue until 2040.

@Lancer: check out Refar's Random Script Chooser -- it has an option to force the player to start on the coast, if that's what's desired... http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=236835

civ2 wonder movies were by far the best of all, the variation of them is part of what made them so great.

a landmark thing would be great.

I would like to see the advisor's from civ2. they were pointless, but fun.

one thing in particular though. occasionally if you captured a large empires capital, it would split into 2 civ's fighting a civil war. I would like to see something like that, a civil war/revolt risk. that your cities might actually declare independence and such. especially for faraway cities or cities that have large foreign populations. the effect should be increased with the invention of nationalism.

From SMAC: Terrain height differences with effects on production, fights (yes, there are hills, but you can surely do more with real slopes), and sinking cities (via global warming). I'd add increased visibility from really high ground.

          Planet busters. Just kidding.
          Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

I liked the wonder movies from SMAC. Also I liked having the fewer factions. They really felt different and like they had character.

I'll probably be laughed at for this, but...corruption.

                CAMELS!~

No actually I liked the ability to have cities help each other, transfering food or hammers.

This is another answer to be lynched for... I want the Palace/Throne Room thing. I know it is silly and useless, but it was very satisfying. It was also one of the first things my children understood and liked when I was trying to tempt them into trying Civ.

A big one would be Zone of Control. You should not be able to slip past my units without confrontation unless you have a special unit promotion called "sneaky". Or maybe scouts and explorers could have the Zone of Control awareness function for a stack, which could make them more useful in later stages of the game.

Public execution of Spies. I know that was not in any prior version, but I have come to hate Spies.

I'm glad ADM is finally dead.

From SMAC, the rover things that could send food, shields, OR wealth to it's home city, from one tile.
From CivIII, the way catapults/cannons/etc. worked.
                      From CivII, terraforming.
From CivI, leader clothing changes with the ages.

I have to say that nearly every post in this thread reminds me of why Civ4 is better than any previous iteration Except for Throne Room and Wonder Movies and perhaps Advisers, basically every gameplay feature here is gone for good reason IMO and good riddance to it

I'd have agreed with you about corruption until about a month ago. Right now though, after thinking about what a joint maintenence/corruption model would do to expansion speed (ie slow it down some more which I think is needed) I'm not so sure corruption is necasserily a bad thing (only reason it was bad in C3 was because there was no overflow. With overflow you get rid of so much mm it's unreal)

I miss being able to bribe barbarians. An army for money! I'm more ambivalent about bribing cities, but you can currently foster revolts, if you have the espionage points.
