    • Near the end of the game I got this:

Our game designers have developed a new addictive game of Civilization. How shall we proceed?

      - Send congratulations to the developers. Our people should enjoy this game. (+1 Happiness in all cities)

      - This game seems to have great educational potential. Suggest that it be used in our educational system. (University +3 Research)

      - Computer games? They have no place in our society! Sell the franchise to foreign buyers! (Receive between 467 and 584 Gold)

This event made me laugh. Another one of yours Solver?

        • I just had a scout stumble of black liquid that burned hot. One option was to reveal all oil for a light cost from my treasury, which I paid and now I know where oil is even though I am a minimum of 6 techs away from Scientific Method. A great one to help future plans!

            • A negative one I recently got was my capital was struck by a Monsum. The possible choices are lose some buildings or lose one pop point. But the second choice was disabled for some reason. It was the future era and so I was running US - FS - Emn - FM - FR.

              • This was a new one for me (turn 170, 1100 AD):

An esteemed warlord who operates from the castle in Thebes has offered to set up a special military academy at his own expense.
                • We have no need of his services. Ask him instead to donate his money to the state. (Receive 117 )
                • Excellent! Have him train Pikemen units for us. (Receive 2 Pikemen.)
                • Superb! Have all our military recruits in that city undergo a training regimen at the new academy. (Subtract 292 from your treasury. +1 free Great Military Instructor in Thebes.)
I had around 460 so the first option wasn't so exciting. Second option was even less exciting. So even though the third option was a fairly big chunk o' change, and it was in my capital, which wasn't necessarily a military city, it seemed the best choice.

                • I've had that one once. I could not afford the third option so went for the second one - very disappointing as, even though the city had a barracks, the units that appeared started with no XP.

                  • I just got a message that I found hilarious because of the timing.

The Byzantine people have trained the largest force of knights. Advisors across the known world tremble at the thought of facing rows of lances powered by the thundering hooves of a full battle charge.
What makes the message so funny is what the rest of the world is armed with. One nation has modern armor as its most advanced unit; one has SAM Infantry; five have infantry; one has machine guns; three have rifles; and one has grenadiers. I can see the rest of the world laughing at the thought of a Byzantine line of lowered lances, but not trembling.

                        • A volcano just destroyed one town and two villages at one of my cities... Ouch!

                          Comment

                          • Be thankful!
Volcanoes do not destroy resources, nor do they destroy adjacent cities. In Civ3, cities were occasionally LOST because of an adjacent volcano.

I like this random event (as with all the others). Spices up the game.

                            • Hrmph. It happens repeatedly to the same places. I remember once it happened and the instant I had replaced the towns (with a cottage! ) it happened again.

                              • That's okay, gdijedi. Romans/Italians have been building cities near known volcanoes too.

I DO wonder a bit about YOUR rebuilding by the lava cone, but I suppose you figured it wouldn't happen again. Tough luck on your part.

Personally, I don't think I've had repeat eruptions in my games. OTOH, I haven't played that many BtS games, yet.
