Yeah and it has the option of starting a golden age too, but I guess you'll have to control the Statue of Zeus for that.

Well I was hoping to find out the reward for that today but apparently it had failed at some point and that went unnoticed for me..

A few nice random events: One gave free Shock 1 promotion to all pikeman I trained and another one free Combat 1 for cannons. Those events were in separate games though.

I had two quests in my current game: the national sports league which has already been mentioned, and The Holy Mountain, which was a new one on me. Basically they told me legends of this holy mountain, only they didn't know where it was. The quest was to bring the mountain within my cultural borders, and it would fail if anyone else got it first or I made it to Industrialism without doing so. They were nice enough to tell me that if I built a total of 22 religious buildings (it didn't specify, but only buildings of the state religion counted) they'd research it and tell me where the mountain was. Cathedrals counted as 4 buildings toward that total. In the end, I completed it, and the reward was +1 happiness in all cities.

What I would really like to see for events and quests is in some human readable format what's the prereqs for it to happen; any random chance involved, and what the benfit (or cost in case of negative event) is when it occurs.

Got this the other day. It was new (to me, at least).

Two prominent families are feuding over their children, who eloped together against everyone else's wishes. Spanish leaders are particularly upset that it was held in our Jewish tradition. [It would be when my religion was Judaism. ]
          • Send well wishes and a token wedding gift, trying not to further anger our neighbors. (Suffer a -1 relations hit with Brennus.)
          • Send hearty congratulations and a generous wedding figt. (Subtract 19 from treasury. Suffer a -2 relations hit with Brennus. +1 in all cities with Judaism for 30 turns.)
          • Announce a national celebration, send an outlandish wedding gift, and donate generously to our religious organizations in the name of the newlyweds. This is likely going to trigger war! (Subtract 78 from treasury. Suffer a -3 relations hit with Brennus. +1 relations boost with all Jewish leaders.)
Brennus was annoyed with me, no change in attitude, so he became more annoyed, I guess. No war yet. (I'm still building my army. ) There was only 1 other Jewish leader at the time.

I just got a new one, clunker coal. My one and only coal mine started putting out inferior coal. I was just started building railroads and began to panic as I read the message. However, it did not stop the railroads or anything terrible; it just took away one hammer's worth of production from the mine. This was irritating but not near as bad as I first feared. It's the first time I was really panicked about an event, so that made it more interesting for that factor.

              I just had this event.
"Our military leaders have help internal war games to strengthen our training and grit. One unit has emerged as the champion."

Only Option: "Decorate our champions! We shall celebrate their achievement."

My Gallic Swordsman was renamed to Champion and was given Cover promotion. I don't know if the promotion is random, but I wasn't given any choice.

I've had two events lead to +3 relations with another civ, at some cost.

Both times the civ promptly declared war on me the following turn. This seems like strange behavior.

Just got one of Solver's new random events in patch 3.13 -- the one where you can conduct medical experiments on your people and get additional health. I went for broke, ended up with +2 health in all of my cities....which was really cool considering I was Joao, and therefore already had +2 health in my cities thanks to the Expansive trait. Then I got the horse whisperer quest and chose the +1 food from every stable...

Let's just say I won't be building aqueducts anytime soon! And those forests are getting clear-cut....

Looks to me like Solver forgot to place a prereq tech on the medical experiments one, I would think that one wasn't supposed to show up at least until Medicine.

                    • No, that's working right. The event is all about shamanism-quality medicine - your people find some herbs that are believed to have healing properties. That's not really what you'd call modern medicine.

                      • I had the New dictator event recently. I was runing Police State and State Property and I got a message that there is a "new charismatic dictator in the party" (or something to that effect) and I could chose between march for all gunpowder units or +2 happy in all cities.

Built the Great Wall and immediately got the Barbarian event.

Playing Next War, as the Americans and London invented Bannana Splits. In 2067 or whatever.

Built a Navy that would control the seas for centuries by building galleys.

Aluminum Corp wanted me to get Coal so that I wouldn't have to rely on foreign imports...I had two already.

Centuries apart, every one of my coal mines started mining clunker coal.

Ever land based oil has poor quality oil.

A rich family found ainceint texts in the ruins of a city.

During my recent war to kill off Isabella, Spanish troops healed some of my troops, ending the war until the peace treaty was over.

                          • Just got this one a family has discovered an ancient cache and donated it to the local libary. 780 beakers or -780 gold & +1 beaker at the local library. I think that might be a negative ROI even if granted on turn 1 assuming you had 780 gold and a library. (It's unquestionaly so at the turn I got it, a few turns before completing the Apollo Program) I think the per turn beaker count needs increased to 10 to be worthwhile if this is a modern era only event.

                            • Here's one I just got and haven't seen before.

One of our high-ranking intelligence agents has defected to the Maya empire.

                              - That's regrettable. We'll need to review our security procedures. (Cost 300 EP)

                              - Unacceptable. An "accident" should happen to the traitor! (Subtract 76G from your treasury. In addition, 50% chance for: Suffer a -2 relations hit with Pacal II)
