If I remember the library quest correctly the extra scientist option is only available if you have the Great Library. Even then I think it adds an extra great scientist to the great library so the bonus will end on discovery of science while the library bonus will stay through the game.

I thought +2 beakers/library was the obvious choice, yes. If I had the 'mids for early Representation, maybe I'd have chosen differently (unlikely). The quest requires 7 libraries. That's 14 beakers/turn right there, with more in the future. The settled GS provides, what, 9 beakers/turn (12 in rep, but I didn't have the Pyramids), increased eventually by Oxford. Seemed like a no-brainer to me.
edit: and yes, I had the GL, and it was phrased such that the extra scientist was attached to the GL... so yeah, it's not permanent. However, you would pick up some extra GS points. If I was PHI and had the Pyramids for early Representation, MAYBE it would've been a defensible choice.
As for the axemen, well, I didn't play that game out for whatever reason, so I didn't know that. Thanks.
Extra scientist attached to the Great Library. Which means my beaker count is wrong. It's only 3/turn for those guys (6 in Rep). Which brings me back to thinking it's a no-brainer.

1) wait until the country was in turmoil and then send in the troops to sort things out (all Barracks addd +2 espionage points!!!!!!);
2) cash in (get between +750 and +1450)
3) make like the cool headed diplomat (+1 happy in all cities.)
Wait...is that 2 beakers for your one library, or for ALL of your libraries? Because if it's for all of them, that would be a much, much better reward then most quests give...
I had an interesting one a few hours ago, the Ethopian Empire (that's mine) had an extremely close election. Basically shades of Florida 2000. Anyway the choice is your Courthouses will now either yield +1 gold or +3 culture for the rest of the game.
Here's another one I had a few days ago that also shows how ungreatful the AI is. This is normal speed so 1655 is the very next turn.
1650 AD Famine strikes the Zulu city of Ondini; we decide to "spare no expense to help our Zulu neighbors." -100% food in our capital (which didn't need to grow due to being at the health limit anyway) -15 gold, +3 diplomatic relations.
1655 AD The ungrateful Zulus declare war!!!

I've gotten alot of these but at least one I got yesterday was that some military general gave me 2 pikemen in my capital city. Other options were to get about 160 coins or pay like 600 coins to get a great military advisor in the city.. Well, the second option was a bit too expensive for me at that time.
I have a couple of questions, the most important is this: What does this quest of controlling 14 landmasses give as a reward? (Controlling means that I must have at least one city settled to each of those landmasses) Landmasses mean different islands and continets so this quests is quite a hard one, that's why I would like to know if the reward is worth it.
The other quests I'd like to know about are building 9 libraries and 9 forges.. And what would the rewards be if I would control the Great Library in the library quest or the Colossus in the forge quest? And how about this quest of making 9 colosseums

Some leagues have an 'everybody plays everybody' competition, like the English "Premier League" (soccer).
In such a league it doesn't matter if the nr of teams is even or uneven.

I've had the usual random bad ones all game long this time, but I've had a couple of new good ones along with it. Once, my engineers came up with a more efficient engine, resulting in all my fighters getting a +1 operational range promotion, and once they came up with some new improvement that gave all my carriers the Drill III promotion.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
In a recent game, the Harbormaster quest was a godsend -- I chose the free combat I promotion for all current and future naval units, really saved me in a naval war against Shaka later....

There were actually a few years in which the NFL had 31 teams; it basically meant that every week at least one team had a bye week. They would try to only give teams with really bad records the previous year a bye week outside of the normal weeks used.
